Jason tells tales from Tampa Bay Beer Week, Hunahpu Day and all.
The bulk of this episode is us name dropping the people we love to follow on beer social media, our favorite beer writers and our most loved beer podcasts. Lastly, we discuss the breweries we are most excited about in 2018.
It's a dense episode, some would say it's…juicy.

Some months between episodes seem longer than others. It's football championship season! Why not argue NFL vs NCAA? Then we get into the highlights of a couple bottle shares and the 14th Annual Atlanta Cask Ale Festival.
We discuss lactose and fruited IPA's and debate if they will trend. Where does the NEIPA style go to expand and express creativity. The acceptability of some adjuncts over others is inconsistent at best—it's madness. So, we lay down the law and ask the hard question: is this even beer? How do these experimental beers effect the broader line of beers from a brewery?
How do the large regional breweries get involved in treads and compete in increasingly hyper-localized market? Jason thinks there are parallels with the coffee industry and drops a pound of knowledge from his experience working in both. We're going to see more consolidation, especially on a local scale.
A correction, Wayne mentions the Reinheitsgebot not including wheat but, it does. What a dummy.
We bring back the afterparty. Jason is going to do real home brewing and you won't believe the crazy recipe he's thought up. Wayne explains that old an website is the opposite of old an t-shirt.

The lagers are coming. Wayne uses frozen bottles and Jason, high-tech Brew jacket can help.
We do a brief 2017 recap and cover the best beer we had all year. Jason's travels took him to the South Carolina coast and he covers several great beers he found out there.
We talk about cellaring beers. There are several good reasons to cellar and give the beer some time. While for some, it's similar to collecting baseball cards, others just don't want to consume large bottles by themselves. Jason drops some serious science.
Some of the most commonly cellared beers are rare, highly sought after brews. Is the hype really worth the cost and effort? We share our thoughts on how the hype effects the perception of flavor, and ratings. Here are the top rated beers: https://www.beeradvocate.com/lists/top/ All this being said, the hype train drives trends and those trends effect average beers in a positive way.
Prices are going up. We tell you why you should get used to it and how good you've had it.
Beer twitter has erupted as of late. A few brewers have stepped into a steaming pile of trouble. It gets heavy at the 40 minute mark and runs to the end. If you are reading this, Wayne is probably still on his soap box. Read these and weep (probably literally)

In this holiday episode we cover our Christmas trees. After that we discuss the Founders CBS drop. Then things turn serious, prepare for the knowledge needle to drop and run through the grooves on your mind. But seriously, there is a rich of history behind the porter and stout styles and Jason lays it down. The history of high gravity, Guinness? Check and check.
We spend a little time on the Avery Brewing sale of a 30% stake to Mahou San Miguel which leads us into a discussion on social media. Which, then leads us into a long and colorful exchange on Untappd. It seems we all start using that app one way and it changes over time. What is the value of reviews anyway? Let's talk about what makes a rating useful. As they say, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." We fall short of proving the Russia is influencing beer reviews.
Jason fills us in on his recent Florida trip in a short after party. If there is any good beer near Myrtle Beach please drop us a line. Lastly, we focus a lot of energy on beer from the Southeast and Northeast, what are we missing? Reach out, let's work out a trade!

Women make up the fastest growing segment of the craft beer industry. In this episode we extend our series on diversity with a discussion that includes three amazing guests.
Kathy Davis: CEO, Head Brewer @ Abby Of The Holy Goats Brewing Jessica Miller: Marketing Manager @ Reformation Brewing Zuri Coleman: Brewer @ Second Self Beer Company
We get their take on Libeeration from Portsmouth Brewing, a beer designed to treat the symptoms of menopause.
Kathy and Jessica recommend a book titled "Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers: The Secrets of Ancient Fermentation."
We also get fairly serious and discussions around common misconceptions regarding women and alcohol, the craft beer enviornment and staffing women in breweries.
This one runs a little long with so much a great conversation. Stick with it, to learn about the Pink Boots Society, Girls Pint Out and G.A.L.S., and The Georgia Ale & Lager Sirens near the end.
[A correction: Zuri referenced a Monday Night Brewing brewer by name incorrectly. Her name is actually Sarah Green.]

We start out by learning a little bit about Jason Jones and Eric Jackson. Then we get into their experience with craft beer and indie brewers as African American's. From tasting rooms to marketing to the brewing staff, there is a tremendous amount of opportunity to improve as a community. Joel Franklin joined us halfway through (37:20) and brought insights from the brewing floor.
We had a great time discussing this issue with a super group!

Our guest this month is Casey Randle Beene of The Hopulist Beer Reviews on Facebook. Only eight months into his craft beer exploration Casey has a shockingly good palate.
This episode is the first in a series discussing diversity in craft beer. Casey talks about Muscular Dystrophy and his surprise in finding health benefits from drinking craft beer.
Casey discusses catching some grief for reviewing what he calls "crafty beers" from macro producers. Then, we have him live review Tropicalia IPA from Creature Comforts Beer.
Finally, Casey grabs the mic and shares his thoughts on the challenges people with disabilities face and his creative ideas on how the beer industry can be more inclusive. It's incredible, and Casey is amazing, enjoy!

Ep 8. Summer Beers with Greg Bowman of CNN
It's August, the dog days of summer, we start looking to lighter beers for enjoying out in the heat. Even Jason bailed on a Pirate Noir from Prairie Artisan Ales while on the beach in Jamaica. Instead we look to White/Witbier ales, hefeweizen, berliner weisse, Gose, Saison, Session IPA, Lagers and Watermelon beers.
Greg is a video editor/producer at CNN. He also writes about beer and talks about getting those articles published on CNN.com in the face of an active news landscape. What do the editors look for?
In this episode we sip on: NoDa Brewing NoDajito Stillwater Artisanal Ales Insetto Creature Comforts Tritonia Westbrook Key Lime Pie Gose Three Taverns Rapturous Creature Comforts Duende
We have a colorful exchange on who we think distributes to all 50 contiguous US States and quickly leave our depth.
We finally get into the cellar collection we sit near in Jason's house. We refer to it often but haven't applied this much context. It's a wall of whales for trading and following trends. IPA's are so hot right now on the secondary market. It's a specific trend we like.
Tell your friends about the show. Also, we would LOVE to get a few ratings in iTunes. If you rate the show we will read it — no exceptions.

Are NEIPA's a gateway beer? What is the traditionalists' beef with this new delicious style? We talk about that as well as what makes the style unique.
Home brewed New England IPA and the attack of the clones. Well, Wayne brewed one.
Lot's a beer travel. Jason visited Austin Texas, Ft Lauderdale, Asheville South Carolina, and Boone North Carolina, and hit all of the great spots as you would expect.
Our guest, Mark Colligs (@craftcouple), has been brewing since the 90's and helped build Southern Barrel Brewing. He is currently building out a hop yard in Pennsylvania that includes a 7 barrel brew house. He recently took a trip to New England touring a dozen breweries.
Diversity in craft beer is improving but has a long way to go. We struggle a bit to solve all the worlds problems. A bunch of white guys discussing diversity, what can go wrong?
How can we be a more positive community? We drop some tips and tricks on providing recommendations for local or independent options to friends cold AB Inbev products on social media.
The Bruery takes on private investment and the craft beer world responds with crickets.

Please, leave us a review in iTunes. One star is fine but five would ROCK! Thank you! We'll read and credit every review on the next episode.
You know Jason has stories about bottle sharing events including one of the whalesiest ever. We briefly cover the great things coming out of Tennessee these days. We also speak completely out of our element about mixed fermentation process so watch this and get it right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxeAljtgjLQ
We love that video so much, probably too much.
Wayne recaps his trip to Seattle and declares the best beer he enjoyed during that visit. You might be surprised who poured the best pint! Jason declares and expands on his love of Chucks Hop Shop bottle shop in Seattle. Anyway, LOVE that Ballard community.
We get a little deep on collaborations on the micro level.
The obligatory Wicked Weed waxing happened. You know we love to keep our eye on the ball of big craft and InBev is certainly pushing our buttons. But who does it really effect the most? We try to cover this big topic and bare our souls but probably only flung poo. A great place to catch more news on this is BeerStreetJournal.com.
Fallout from the implosion of the Wicked Weed Invitational event has manifested in another event. It's called The Funk Collective. Jason will be there, learn more here: http://beerstreetjournal.com/the-funk-collective-stands-instead-of-wickeds-invitational/
That's it, we're going Hyper-Local brewing. The betrayal is real. What comes out of all of this? We ham-fist the idea that craft beer needs to maintain the gap in product quality between themselves and the macro owned brands. Down with mediocre beer!
Jason's big announcement: going to Jester King. Add The Funk Collective visit and we'll have a couple amazing beer travels to discuss in the next episode.

This afterparty was a little off center. Maybe it was the beer talking? Still, not sure we should be rapping for any reason.
