Megan takes the time to get to know her clients. She asks questions and listens to their story so that they can both determine if they are a good fit for each other.

Megan said that as her skills have grown, her confidence has grown. She does this through reading and being a second shooter for other photographers.

1. Be a "go to" person.
Amy talked about how people and churches tend to wait for people to reach out for help and expect them to come to them. They have a "come to us" mentality. Instead we need to be initiating and going to them where they are.
2. Get rid of the "us" vs. "them" mentality.
Everyone has a story and when we listen to people's stories they become more than projects to be fixed; they become people to be loved. Listening will help you discover why they do what they do.
3. Have conversations with people already doing the work.
Most people have the desire to do something to help if they are able. The problem is that instead of working together we often do our own thing. However, the biggest impact happens when we work together and partner with people who already know what to do.

1. People overestimate and underestimate the importance of design.
They overestimate design by investing in resources that really don't matter. They underestimate design by not thinking of foot traffic, complementing colors, and lighting.
2. Think of design as a conversation
You want every conversation to be clear and the same is true in design. If it's not clear then you'll experience confusion.
3. Experiences don't always go as you expect; sometimes they go better
Aaron talked about this happening on one of his projects. They had originally planned on people interacting with a piece of art one way and they ended up interacting with it in a different, better way.

What We Learned
1. Passion is not enough.
Liz realized that she had been talking about doing something for so long and actually needed to start doing something. Talking about doing something or saying how much you care about it is not enough. You have to do something.
2. You overcome a mentality by meeting people where they're at.
Liz knew that there were things that her and the Ugandan people disagreed about, but she chose to focus on what they agreed on. She met people where they were at and didn't get mad or frustrated for them not being further along.
3. We're all givers and receivers.
When you come from privilege, it is tempting to believe that you only have something to give others, but you can receive as well. That's what Liz has learned while working in Uganda is that sometimes you're the giver and other times your the receiver.

1. To be the best you have to put in the time.
Matt started out in high school playing drums and played hours a day to improve his skills. He still plays hours a day to continue to improve his abilities.
2. Never stop challenging yourself
Matt could choose to be content with his level of skill, but instead he chooses to challenge himself. This is one of the things that makes him so good.
3. Inspiration can come from anywhere.
Matt said that he finds his inspiration outside the music world. He finds it in people who he thinks works harder than he does.
