On COI #65, Kyle and Will update the progress of the New START arms control treaty, which is slated for a 5-year extension after agreement was reached between President Biden and his Russian counterpart. The move may not signal a new dawn for US-Russia ties, however, as the Biden administration pursues many of the same hostile policies as his predecessor, including antagonistic military deployments in Russia's backyard.

FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith became the first bureau official to be held accountable for the abuse of the FISA warrant process against the Trump campaign in 2016, but was given a slap on the wrist, sentenced to a mere 12 months probation.

As one of its first efforts in office, the Biden administration has embarked on a high profile campaign against "domestic terrorism," ordering a DNI threat assessment on the phenomenon in the wake of the Capitol riot, as well as a probe into the "role of social media" in what it deems anti-government extremism. A major bout of security theater is already underway, with uniformed soldiers set to police the nation's capital until at least April to ward off supposed "threats."

Gareth Porter discusses U.S. relations with Iran, especially the ways the policies of the Biden administration might differ from those of the Trump administration. Even though the JCPOA was one of the signature accomplishments of the Obama presidency, and even though Trump came under sharp criticism from Obama supporters for pulling out of the agreement, Porter does not consider it at all a sure thing that Biden will simply rejoin the deal as it stands. The narrative that many Obama officials put forward at the time was that Iran was forced to come to the table because of America's superior negotiating position; in reality, explains Porter, it was Iran's advancing military technology that forced the U.S. to negotiate with them. He thinks it's likely that rather than simply repudiate Trump by rejoining the deal, Biden's team will now seek some new negotiating advantage, likely based on the destructive and unjust sanctions put into place by the Trump administration.

I give an essay summary and analysis of Chaos Theory by Robert P. Murphy.

In short, a stateless society would not be perfect, but all imperfections of the market apply ten fold to the state.  Voluntary funded competition provides better quality and lower prices than coercively funded monopoly. What makes the state unique is that it claims the monopoly right to initiate violence against peaceful people. The ultimate check and balance is the ability to stop funding/participating with an organization.

Scott interviews Shuja Paul about his forthcoming documentary, Waiting to Explode: Forgotten Bombs of a Secret War Continue to Kill. Paul's film tells the little-known story of the thousands of undetonated cluster bombs dropped by the U.S. during the Vietnam War, which continue to plague the people of Laos to this day. Although Laos didn't receive the brunt of the bombing during the war, Paul says that that country has suffered more than anyone in the decades since, largely because it has remained an impoverished country of subsistence farmers, who lack the technological, medical and financial resources that some of their neighbors have. Laos has also received far less attention in the intervening years, leaving their people to suffer in obscurity. Paul hopes that by telling a few of the tragic stories from the more than 20,000 Laotians who have been killed by these bombs, he can help to bring international attention to this deadly humanitarian crisis.

It is an absurd and pernicious doctrine of “justice” that each child should “start” absolutely equally. It is an anti-human position, since each child manifestly begins completely unequally — with unequal abilities and parents. If parents have a right to beget and raise children without state interference, then parents have a concomitant right to provide that environment, and that amount of money for them, that they think best. To provide “equality of opportunity” in the sense of equality of infants would have to mean that the state nationalizes all infants and raises them in State nurseries under precisely “equal” conditions (although, even here, absolute equality is not possible).

On COI #64, Mike Maharrey, communications director of the Tenth Amendment Center, returns to the show. Mike discusses the outlook for gold in 2021 and how buying gold undermines the war machine. He looks the benefits to both Bitcoin verses gold and explains why you may be interested in buying both. Mike explains movements happening at the state level to make gold legal tender.

Mike and Kyle look at other issues prompted by TAC. Defend the Guard is a bill introduced in several states that would prevent the State's National Guard from being used in unconstitutional wars. The bill could be introduced in dozens of states this year. Mike also updates the movement to hold cops accountable for committing crimes while on the job. Bills to end qualified immunity are moving forward at the state level.
