... the partisans of intervention assume that individuals are not competent to run their own affairs or to hire experts to advise them, but also assume that these same individuals are competent to vote for these experts at the ballot box. They are further assuming that the mass of supposedly incompetent consumers are competent to choose not only those who will rule over themselves, but also over the competent individuals in society. Yet such absurd and contradictory assumptions lie at the root of every program for “democratic” intervention in the affairs of the people.

Ray McGovern reflects on the ways America's foreign policy and national security state have changed since his time in the CIA. In particular, he warns that Michael Morell, one of Joe Biden's top picks to head the CIA, is categorically unqualified to do so based on his record in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq and as an apologist for torture during the early years of the war on terror. In general, says McGovern, Biden's people conform far too much to the worst of the modern foreign policy establishment: aggressively committed to promoting Israel's interests in the Middle East, unwilling to end any of the wasteful and unjust foreign wars and far too eager to gin up tensions with Russia and China, the two countries with which it is most important that the U.S. have peaceful relations in the coming decades.

On COI #48, Kyle discusses what major pardons Trump could handout before leaving office. While it is unlikely, Julian Assange, Ross Ulbrich, and Edward Snowden have had their names floated as potential receivers of pardons. However, even if Trump decides to pardon any of these men, he will likely be talked out of it by the establishment figures in his administration.

Russia has offered the US the chance to extend the New Start Treaty for one year. It is unclear if the US will accept the offer to save the one remaining nuclear arms control agreement. While Biden seems more interested in saving the treaty than Trump does, Biden has also committed himself to an aggressive diplomatic/sanctions policy against Russia that could make extending the treaty difficult.

On COI #47, Connor Freeman joins Kyle to discuss Trump's foreign policy record. Trump supports will claim that he is the most antiwar president and hasn't started any wars. Trump opponents claim the president is an isolationist, that he abandoned our allied, and took orders from Russia.

Connor and Kyle debunk all of these myths and get into Trump's true foreign policy record. Trump's largest failure was his decision to get out of the Iran Nuclear Deal and started an economic/asymmetrical war with Iran. Trump also expanded the ongoing wars in Syria, Somalia, Yemen, and Afghanistan.

Trump also tiled the US towards 'Great Power Conflicts' with Russia and China. Tensions have increased dramatically in the waters around China. The outgoing president destroyed key arms control deals with Russia.

To insure the dominance of the new statism over public opinion, to insure that the public’s consent would be engineered, the governments of the Western world in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries moved to seize control over education, over the minds of men: over the universities and over general education through compulsory school attendance laws and a network of public schools. The public schools were consciously used to inculcate obedience to the State as well as other civic virtues among their young charges. Furthermore, this statizing of education insured that one of the biggest vested interests in expanding statism would be the nation’s teachers and professional educationists.
