In episode 96 of the L1P, we discuss a method that can be used to help people understand and own the change they need in their life. Using a tool known as motivation interviewing (MI) to have a conversation with the person who needs make a change. We discuss the 4 processes of MI and the communications known as OARS (Open-ended Questions, Affirmation, Reflective Listening and Summarizing). With understanding the processes and practicing the skills you will learn to help people recognize and start planning for the change.
In Ep. 95 of the L1P, we discuss how finding the perfect answer doesn't exist. When we are overwhelmed with choices it actually hinders our ability to make a decision and therefore leaves us in a stalemate. Acting, moving, trying anything is better than wasting countless hours trying to find the best answer. And it proves to be a better option due to the learning and development experienced in trail and error... to the right answer.
In episode 94, we discuss how the world seems to focus on quick wins to success and happiness, yet we fail to realize that life has suffering. Life had challenges, problems, and traits about ourselves that we don't love. The truth to improvement and change is vulnerability; recognizing our shortcoming is the first step to true change. And as Brene' Brown stated, also innovation.
In Episode 93, of L1P, we discuss the final groundwork for moving from choice to change. As I reflect on my acceptance into a program for obtaining a PhD, I spend some time finalizing my decision. This simple oversight, and reflective process helps us take the first step into the change, as we move from decision to change planning. We discuss the reflection of heart, time, cost, impact (positive and negative), risk, and the macro (long-term goal).
In episode 92, of L1P, I talk about how a person's standard/bar (our goals, where we want to land, dreams, etc.) may be same as someone else's end game. The idea is that we must be careful that we don't set our standards so high, that we don't want to create such great changes (and goals) that we never meet them. This loop of reaching a goal and immediately setting a new higher one is a disease and could drastically deteriorate your life. Change for improvement, not for a goal that cannot be met.
In this week's episode, 91, we focus our conversation on the NOW. I discuss one of the core principles where I work that is taught to our employees as a benefit to those who we work with and working together. Spending too much time in the past or thinking too much in to the future will stunt your progress. It will leave you in one top position, the position of stagnant. True progress occurs when you live and work in the moment. Don't waste any of them.
In Episode 91 of the L1P, we discuss month one of 2020 and success of yearly goals or new year's resolutions. I talk about my success thus far with my first goal surrounding exercise and then turn my attention to goal number 2, gratitude. Gratitude is a true internal feeling the can create amazing positive changes in your life. It's my second goal this year, one that will not be easy, but likely will change my life.
In Episode 89, of L1P, we sit down with Sara Loe who has had great success with the Designing Your Life curriculum. We spend some time talking through the process, the coaching and how she meet multiple goals in under a year. Tune-in to learn more about the DYL process, benefits of having support, and tools that you can use to create positive influence and change in your life. A big thank you and congrats to your success, Sara Loe.
In episode 88 of L1P, we turn our conversation to what people may really want when they are seeking change. We believe, many times, that money will "change" our lives, but really it's behavior. 99% of the time, people come into money or get more money, aren't any happier; it doesn't solve the problem at hand, like success, or loneliness, or status. But there are proven practices that create real change, change that can be see in brain-imagery and with time, can drastically improve your life.
In Episode 87, of the L1P, we discuss a quote that I posted on off week over the winter break. This quote talked about the rate at which we need to learn to keep up with the rate of change. We spend some time talking about how we can focus on little things to keep ahead of the curve and on track with the continuous changing environment that we live in. Then, as we are at the time of new resolutions and goals, we ask, what will you be learning in 2020?
