Well, today we're going through a CBR article listing the oldest objects! We do question the inclusion of certain "objects" and whether they clarify as "objects." In general, this was a better list! And we had fun going through it! Our favorite quote from today's episode, "[Aragorn] is an over-sentimental lumberjack." Today the SibNerds are talking about the Chapters 12 - 15!

Did we get enough evidence to support Josef's theory about Damya, Syenite, and Essun's identities? We still have so many questions, mostly about the stone eaters and the obelisks… but also everything else, too. Guess we'll just have to keep on reading!

Next time we'll be discussing Chapters 16 - 19!

Happy Reading!

We've talked about Krampus, now let's talk about Saint Nicholas! Josef leads the SibNerds through a historical examination of Saint Nicholas Day and the traditions that surround the day. It's always interesting when Christian traditions change over time as they are introduced to new cultures. Do you have any Saint Nicholas Day traditions you want to share with us? Today the SibNerds are talking about the Interlude - Chapter 11!

Damaya has entered an evil Hogwarts type of environment—where you can't trust the teachers not to kill you. Essun learns that Hoa is more than he seems…but also, what is Hoa?!?! And Syenite is starting to learn more about Alabaster's power—but there are still so many questions!

Today the SibNerds are talking about the Chapters 4 - 8!

Thoroughly disturbed and incredibly engaged.

There are new characters and new revelations about the world. Something tells us there are only more revelations to come…

And! We were definitely set straight on some of our hypotheses from week 1—men and boys can definitely be orogenes and orogen can be genetic or sporadic.

Next time we'll be discussing the Interlude – Chapter 11!

Today the SibNerds are talking all about the Christmas legend surrounding the devious Krampus! We're bridging the gap between spooky Halloween to joyous Christmas traditions with a tricky character. Do you have any Krampus experiences? Did you "celebrate" Krampus Nacht? Tell us about your Uncle Jerry's penchant for scary goat costumes… or maybe don't. Today the SibNerds are talking about the Prologue – Chapter 3!

A rare instance of the second-person POV! And it's done so well! It's visceral and raw and it keeps the reader close. We're intrigued and invested! The world building in this first section is impressive—and it didn't leave Anna nearly as lost as she normally is, which could be because of the second-person POV.

In a lot of ways this appears to be a story about grief. Do you think Essun is right to belief her husband killed their son? Do you think Damaya is safe with Schaffa? How will Essun and Damaya's paths cross?

Our new read along is The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin! For next week, read the prologue – chapter 3! We'll see you there! Today the SibNerds were inspired by a certain piece of media they cannot discuss… but! They can discuss the mysterious death of Edgar Allan Poe! For more details, check out this article by the Smithsonian Mag: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/still-mysterious-death-edgar-allan-poe-180952936/ What do you think of our theory that combines all the theories? Do you have your own theory about what might have happened to Poe?

Today the SibNerds are finishing this read along!

Our new read along is The Fifth Season by: N.K. Jemisin! Reading schedule coming soon!

The immediate reaction in finishing this book? Outrage. It was so incredibly good, but we are outraged for Ning, the Princess, and everyone.

This is the way a cliffhanger should be done—the original mission was completed, so the ending was satisfying in that way. However, we have so many questions about all the surrounding events! We're excited to read the next book in the series!

What are your overall thoughts on the book? Will you be reading A Venom Dark and Sweet?

Happy Reading!
