    Episode #50.

    About the Guest:

This episode highlights the innovations and vision of the trailblazers in the healthcare industry. Dr. Trinh and Helene Blanchette, Co-Founders of MDDAO, share amazing insights from the ENP 11th Annual Healthcare Next Practices- Metaverse Innovation held at the UCI Beall Applied Innovation, including Meta health, precision medicine, impactful changes in the concept of healthcare delivery and social trends that can be expected in the next three years.

    Memorable Quotes

    • When you do something for the first time, it's always hard for people to get their heads around it and also understand it. Using a democratic way of doing things, such as crowdsourcing, could actually lead to something. - Dr. Dung Trinh
    • Healthcare is a collaborative effort between a patient and a provider. Unless there's buy-in on both sides of the treatment plan, that treatment won’t go forward. - Dr. Dung Trinh
    • Let’s aim for equity and level the playing field. You get access if you're in rural America. You get access even if you're not in the high-income districts where there are lots of high-performing doctors. - Paul Roberts
    • Doctors should be using technology, but now technology owns doctors. They’re typing on a screen and only half listening while talking to their patient who may be struggling emotionally. - Helene Blanchette
    • One of the discussions was on how seniors might have a challenge with technology. And then the other conversation was about engaging young adults to be more conscious of their health - and is the Metaverse solution to do that? - Helene Blanchette

  • Getting Unbridled, Crucial Information from UnchainedTV with Jane Velez-Mitchell

    Send us Fan Mail

    Episode #49.

    About the Guest:

UnchainedTV profiles vegan activists and celebrities and reports on animal rights news, issues, organizations, campaigns, protests, vigils, conferences, galas, VegFests, and restaurants, bringing the world crucial information ignored by advertiser-based mainstream media. Jane Velez-Mitchell is a nationally known TV journalist and best-selling author. Winner of four Genesis awards/commendations from the Humane Society of the United States, Jane Velez-Mitchell, Founder and Managing Editor, covers crimes against animals and the environment and is widely known for speaking up for the voiceless.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • How a non-profit media outlet brings news
    • How UnchainedTV does fact-checking to bring information often ignored by mainstream media
    • How today’s medicine is reactive but should really be proactive
    • Embracing a plant-based diet and lifestyle
    • Bringing animal welfare into the spotlight

    Memorable Quotes

    • We kill more animals in one day than all the human beings who have lived in the history of the world. There is something wrong with that. - Jane Velez-Mitchell
    • What's wrong with our society, particularly our healthcare system, is that it's all designed to wait for you to get sick and then treat you and medicate you for those illnesses. True doctors get precious little education in nutrition. - Jane Velez-Mitchell
    • Medicine today is reactive and not proactive. You're paid for a sick patient. You're not paid for somebody who's well. And so the system is kind of jigged in a way where it's wrong. - Dung Trinh
    • We should be in the front end with nutrition, prevention, and lifestyle recommendations as opposed to in the back end prescribing meds. - Dung Trinh
    •  There are 20 million people on the verge of starvation in Africa. The starvation crisis is out of control. But we are taking most of our food, or at least a good percentage, and feeding it to 80 billion animals - the most inefficient food system. So I get infuriated when people who are dealing with world hunger or local hunger give out meat to people. - Jane Velez-Mitchell

  • How Memory Works & How It Can Be Improved with Dr. Craig Stark

    Send us Fan Mail

    Episode #46.

    About the Guest:

Dr. Craig Stark's research investigates the neural bases of human long-term memory. He uses functional neuroimaging (fMRI), experimental psychology, neuropsychological studies of amnesic patients, and studies of aging and dementia to investigate how the neural systems supporting these various types of memory operate and interact. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the human hippocampus and other components of the medial temporal lobe.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • How human memory works
    • How the hippocampus and Amygdala affect memory
    • Techniques to improve your memory
    • How games can improve memory

    Memorable Quotes:

    • Memory is stored in the strengths of the connections between neurons. Our brain has, somewhere between ten and a hundred billion neurons, and they all make connections to a bunch of other neurons. And memory is stored as the strength of the connections between them. - Craig Stark
    • You are never too old. Your brain is changeable, plastic, and malleable. You can rewire it at any stage in life. These kinds of things are out there, and learning and memory are the ways to rewire your brain. - Craig Stark
    • In dementia, the hippocampus and its adjacent structures are ground zero. They get taken out. Dory from Finding Nemo is a great example of an amnesic patient. She can't remember what happened if she gets distracted. These amnesic patients could be telling you a story and the end of the story would remind them of the beginning of the story, and they could even just loop and tell it again. - Craig Stark

  • Cognition: The New Vital Sign with Thomas O’Neill

    Send us Fan Mail

Researchers found that global life expectancy is now longer in 2022 than in the 2000s by about six to seven years. And generally, this is perceived as a good thing, right? Surprisingly and unfortunately it’s not all good and we're here to tell you why.

We all know that as we grow older our body and mind weaken. This poses the problem that because we are now living longer, our body is now more prone to medical impairments that are usually seen in the later stages of life, like diabetes, cancer, and most of all Alzheimer's and dementia.

Alzheimer’s is a cognitive disorder that is now the seventh leading cause of death according to WHO and the alarming issue here is the misconception that it is an age-related disease and the lack of tests that can be administered to possibly identify symptoms or early stages of the disease.

In this episode, we are joined by Thomas O’Neill, CEO of Cognivue, a company that developed the first FDA-cleared technology for cognitive function, as he shares how cognitive health can elevate overall healthcare and increase our awareness so we can be better prepared for healthy aging.

To learn more about Cognivue, stay tuned to today’s episode!

    Memorable Quotes:

    • I can tell you that 90% of the time hearing aids are driven by wives dragging their husbands into the office, saying he's not listening. He can't hear right. And that happens all the time. So we need to screen, we need to look. If we don't look, we can't fix it. - Dr. Trinh
    • It takes me 20 seconds to tell somebody to go exercise and watch their diet and it means nothing. They walk up the door and they see me in another six months. Yep, nothing changes right there. There's no incentive. Knowledge is not enough. You need to actually have the data about what's going on with you. - Dr. Trinh
    • This is a movement that is not only a healthcare issue but a society issue. And if we don't all start leading from the front, we're gonna have a much bigger issue going down the road. - Thomas O’Neill

    Resources Mentioned:

    • Cognivue

    About the Guests:

Thomas O’ Neill is the President and CEO of Cognivue. He has more than 25 years of experience leading commercial operations and a proven track record in growing revenue while driving operational excellence and improving customer satisfaction.
