In episode 12 I start by discussing some very disturbing news I came across last evening when searching books on Amazon a name that I recognized from the past turns out he is not an author body on a quick Google search I found out some really disturbing news about a person I used to work for in Miami in the late 2000's, It really caught me off guard last night although I can't say knowing what I know now that it was terribly surprising but it's just really weird to say the least, I think I was mostly surprised that I never heard about it considering how many connections I still have to South Florida in the Miami area. Read the full story here in the Miami Herald.Β I talk a lot about scrum because I am using the weekend to read and dig into a few books, The three in particular are the Scrum Fieldbook, Age of Agile, and Succeeding with Agile. All three books are a little different but all three are worth a read! As always if you want to stay up to date on the latest news and happenings between episodes follow me on Twitter and Instagram!

In episode 10 we talk about the weekend and getting scrum certified with Dr. Bob and two long days of Zoom! If Getting scrum certified is of interest definitely recommend checking out this class with Dr. Bob and Hyperdrive. It was fun, engaging I learned a lot I highly recommend it and I say that over and over and over for a while. It also has a lot of practical real world applications outside of the software and work industry in general. I talk about Will Smith quote that I really enjoy, on hard work and not being out worked! I don't talk a whole ton about books this week I've been tweeting more about that and sharing on Instagram. Towards the end I talk about a new app and we give that a whirl kind of a get to know you learn more about random things and feelings on topics. If you're interested in checking that out you can find out more at Pod Decks. I discuss and highlight Laurie Ruettimann's new book Betting On You which came out this week highly recommend it. Talk about continuing to work on myself and potential education paths. I also talk about my excitement and the excitement my daughter is showing by getting into another school which makes me a proud father but most of all I'm just stoked for her and the future. Woodworking makes its first appearance on the podcast and I talk about digital fabrication and how I have adjusted some of my ways of woodworking and other machines. In this episode I talk about the nonsense of week one in 2021. Amongst other things I successfully avoided the Jeep Dealership this past weekend! I ran for the first time since having my stroke which was a small accomplishment, Although I have no plans on running a marathon anytime soon lol.I talk about a few apps that I really enjoyed the last couple months Calm, Masterclass and Harvard Business Review. Finishing up some books with new ones on deck. On Thursday I came across Laurie Ruettimann, who is new to me and I found out about her shockingly from LinkedIn learning which I was not expecting but I'm already a big fan and have ordered her book which comes out this week. Talked about a few things that annoyed me throughout the week particularly yesterday.Β I'll be back later this week with much much more. In episode five we recap the year and the amazingness that was 2020. We talk about everything from family pajama pictures for the holidays, some of the years top Netflix shows/movies. Of course no episode would be complete without books! In the second half of the episode I bring up a long history and struggles with my own addiction. I talk about my teenage years through college, touch on my 20s and even fatherhood and battles and struggles with addiction and alcohol over the last 22 years. I am now 100% sober and have been for over a year each day is a struggle but I try to have an honest and open discussion about my lifelong battle with alcohol. I am sure I did not cover everything but I just try to be open and start a discussion hopefully it helps someone or someone you know. I wanted to shed some light on it because I am sure I am not the only person to ever struggle with something of this nature and I hope that my second chance inspires others to take it seriously because it almost cost me my life and I am lucky that it did not. Please share this episode with other people I do mention to reach out for help if you or someone you know is struggling. It was by no means the greatest year in history but I am hopeful about the future and I hope you are as well!

On this episode, my sister Cat joins us "in studio" and we discuss our Christmas with the family, my moving back upstairs one year after my stroke, books I've read lately (including my thoughts on Trailblazer), my son Willie joins us briefly to discuss how great he is at Just Dance and how his brother might learn how to do a front flip before him. And, finally, we discuss the more serious topic of what happened to our parents in June 2018 and the related aftermath. This is somewhat of a more serious episode, but an important topic that leads up to around the time of my stroke last December, which I'll get into in more detail in a future podcast. Hopefully this provides a bit more context and we'll be back one more time before the end of year to wrap up the delight that was 2020.
