Peace on the Korean Peninsula could be much closer than it's ever been before.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un have agreed to meet for peace talks in Singapore on June the 12th.

It will be the first time a US president has ever met a North Korea leader.

US correspondent Richard Arnold told Mike Hosking Trump and Kim are both talking up the chances of peace.

"Kim Jong Un is expressing support for the summit meeting, calling it a first step to building a good future on the Korean Peninsula."

There are claims the Ministry of Primary Industries has let farmers down when it comes to Mycoplasma bovis.

Cattle are being culled on farms around New Zealand at a rate biosecurity officials say is beyond expectations.

The number of farms under regulatory control has jumped from 130 to 290 in less than a week.

Koru Biosecurity Management Owner Jack Craw told Mike Hosking he believes MPI didn't pick up on the disease early enough and it's proving detrimental.

"You have only got to listen to what farmers are saying right now, they are just not getting the responses they needed. It seems MPI thought it would go away if they said nothing and now, of course, we are talking 300 farms."

Robots could be the answer to seasonal worker shortages.

Jenkins Freshpac Systems has released technology this morning, which could see two human workers replaced for every unit installed.

The apple packer identifies and places the apples in their trays, and has the ability to safely handle up to 120 fruit per minute.

General manager Jamie Lunam told Mike Hosking the labour shortage problem isn't going to go away.

"This isn't a blip, this isn't a coincidence and the crops are being planted with great ferocity, a million odd apple trees were planted last year."

Swift reaction to the news a major overhaul of the DHB system is on the way.

Health Minister David Clark says there's a lot of issues with the current system, and while nothing is perfect, he thinks it's time to take a fresh look at it.

"In the health sector there is a general view that it is time for some change, it's a sentiment that I have but it is also shared by clinicians and people that work in the sector, it's a long time since we have had a proper look at the model."

There are currently 20 DHBs around the country, but Clark has hinted they could return to a centralised model.

Waikato DHB board member Mary Anne Gill told Mike Hosking she loves what she's hearing.

"Having worked in the system myself as a staff member I've seen the huge health inequities in the broken system, so bring it on."

The Anglican Church decision to let Bishops decide whether they authorise same sex marriages in their area, is being seen as a good one, but one that could be better.

The move is still short of the original goal, which was for same sex marriages to be conducted within churches.

Pride Parade organiser, Shaughan Woodcock, told Mike Hosking it is a very small step in a long journey for the Anglicans.

"What I would have preferred to have seen is for the actual priests in the church to be able to make that choice, opposed to having to have to go and ask a bishop for permission to give a blessing to a same sex couple."

One of our leading scientists is the first New Zealand woman to be elected as a fellow of the Royal Society.

The renowned chemistry researcher and Auckland University professor Margaret Brimble is joining the likes of Sir Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein.

She told Mike Hosking she will be travelling to London to sign a book signed by the most well-known scientists in history.

"I am particularly pleased about this award because it just shows the young, female scientist, I have trained over the years, that we can do it and I hope they are next."

A new study suggests that if there were labels on alcohol which told people of the risks involved, people would consume less of it.

The research surveys 130,000 people, with most saying they're not bothered by what current labels tell them in terms of a health warning.

However, minds changed when they were told of links to cancer.

Alcohol Healthwatch executive director Nicki Jackson told Mike Hosking too many people are ill-informed.

"Studies overseas show that 90 percent of the population don't know the relationship between alcohol and cancer and I think this is quite scary."

Paywalls have typically been thought of as the way of the future in terms of charging people for their content, but that could be set to change.

One Auckland business education site is dropping its paywall this morning, to help with their bid into the United States.

Unfiltered chief executive Jake Millar told Mike Hosking this model has worked very well in New Zealand, but it's a different story in the US.

"When you turn up with a locked up platform with content nobody can watch in a market that is one of the most competitive in the world, it is hard to cut through."

Adrian Orr's about to face his first big test as Reserve Bank Governor.

He's expected to keep Official Cash Rate unchanged at 1.75 percent, when he delivers his first Monetary Policy Statement at 9am.

JMIS analyst Andrew Kelleher says unlike his predecessors, Orr will have to factor employment into his decision.

"The policy targets agreement was changed by the new Government so we have a big question mark now as to what are they going to refer to, what are they going to look at, what are they going to tell us?"

Kelleher says he will be far less reserved than previous Governors.

"He's a little bit different, he's a little bit more jocular, he's a little bit more open and so the market is wondering whether or not this translates into more transparency."

There are worries charter schools will find it difficult to succeed as state or integrated schools.

All remaining charter schools have applied to change - after the Education Minister spelled the end for them in February.

The Ministry of Education's set to consult on the school's applications and assess them, while a new advisory group's going to keep an eye on their performance.

Former Chair of the Partnership Authorisation Board and former ACT president Catherine Isaac told Mike Hosking it's going to significantly change the way the schools operate.

"I think it will be very difficult under this model because the key enablers that lie behind their success have been removed."
