If “the body keeps the score,” who’s actually writing it—your mind, your spirit, your environment, or something you haven’t fully faced yet? In this reflective conversation on the Mindful Journey Podcast, host Sana explores that question with Stan Kurtz, founder of Quantum Research, through the lens of grief, purpose, and what Stan believes he’s observed in the body.
Stan shares how his mother’s death and his son’s autism diagnosis pushed him into years of study and hands-on work. He discusses his view that stress and “fight-or-flight” shape what happens in the body, and why reframing painful life events can be a practical path forward.
The episode also includes Stan’s slide-based examples (blood imagery, EEG scans, and testimonials) and his perspective on staying “in his lane” while respecting conventional medicine—positioning his work as research aimed at helping people feel clearer, calmer, and more capable.
Stan Kurtz is the founder of Quantum Research. He describes years of research and microscopy-based observation focused on patterns in the body, alongside an interest in trauma, stress, and human potential.
Stress and unresolved pain can keep the body in “fight-or-flight,” affecting how you function day to day.
Meaning-making (journaling, inquiry, reframing) can be a tool to move forward after loss.
Lived experience can become “keys” that help you support others going through similar hardship.
Stan emphasizes personal responsibility in health while acknowledging conventional medicine’s role.
Curiosity and discernment matter—especially when claims feel big or emotional.

In this The Mindful Journey episode, host Yusuf Khan gets real about a performance killer that’s socially normal but physiologically expensive. Alcohol can quietly sabotage body recomposition by wrecking sleep quality, disrupting hormones like testosterone, increasing belly fat, and driving cravings that undo “clean eating” and training consistency. Guest Clifford Stephan, founder of Booze Vacation, shares how high performers can feel stuck. Even with workouts, supplements, and discipline. Until they audit the one habit they keep excusing as “social drinking.” This conversation breaks down what changes in your 30s, 40s, and 50s that makes alcohol hit harder. Plus what a “booze vacation” looks like in real life, including a practical 3-month reset and how to handle social pressure without being weird about it.
Clifford Stephan is the founder of Booze Vacation. After building a successful consulting career in Silicon Valley and living a fitness-first lifestyle, he discovered alcohol was undermining his sleep, recovery, mood, and body composition. He now helps men of success take structured breaks from alcohol to regain energy, performance, and health.
Alcohol can block body recomposition by reducing sleep quality. Sleep is the foundation for recovery, hormones, and metabolic health.
“Semi-responsible drinking” still adds up. Cocktails often contain multiple servings, which quietly turns “two drinks” into binge territory.
In your 40s and 50s, alcohol’s impact intensifies because sleep becomes non-negotiable and hormone levels are already trending down.
Lower testosterone affects energy, focus, drive, confidence, discipline, and body composition. Alcohol worsens this directly and indirectly through sleep loss.
Belly fat becomes “sticky” because alcohol stresses the liver, increases inflammation, and makes calorie deficit harder. Especially with a high-carb processed diet.
Weekend drinking can negate weekday workouts. It also increases sugar cravings and sedentary behavior, creating a loop that kills results.
A successful “booze vacation” includes a plan for events, scripts for questions, and solid non-alcoholic options so you don’t feel deprived.
A minimum 3-month break helps you experience what “100%” feels like. Then you can make an informed choice about drinking going forward.

On The Mindful Journey Podcast host Sana sits down with Athina Krol to make intuition usable. Not mystical fluff. Real-world signal detection for mental clarity, emotional balance, and daily decision-making when your brain wants to spiral. Athina breaks down how intuition often shows up through emotions, body sensations, and sudden inner instructions. Then she draws a clean line between intuition and the survival brain so you can stop calling fear “guidance” and stop ignoring real red flags. You will also get a simple two-minute practice to identify your ego voice vs your intuitive voice so you can build a repeatable feedback loop for aligned choices in life and leadership.
Athina Krol is a multidimensional trans-channel oracle and priestess. Her gifts awakened in childhood and she now helps people reconnect with guidance, decode their soul blueprint, and strengthen intuitive decision-making. She is the founder of Channelling Spirit Academy™, Isis Ka®, and author of Soul Fire.
Intuition is an innate human capability. It is not reserved for “gifted” people. It is a trainable internal signal for clearer choices.
Most confusion comes from mixing intuition with the survival brain. Survival protects comfort and avoids risk. Intuition points toward highest-aligned outcomes even when it feels scary.
Common delivery channels include emotions (pull, expansion, dread), body cues (tight chest, gut drop, sudden calm), and direct inner instructions (leave now, trust this, pause).
Anxiety can sometimes be a misread signal. The distinction is that aligned decisions can feel nervous while still carrying a deeper yes and quiet excitement underneath.
Your body is an “energy reader” and pattern detector. If everything looks good on paper but your system goes fight-or-flight, pause and investigate.
A fast calibration practice: sit in silence, notice the ego voice and where it sits in your body, then mentally move it aside and invite intuition forward. Track the different “frequency.”
Risk is not the enemy. Intuition helps you choose which risks are worth taking and which are ego-driven or trauma-driven reactions.
Build a daily data habit. Ask one question each morning and log one clean yes or clean no from your body.

If your career looks fine on paper but feels off in real life this episode is your reset button. Sana and career strategist Siena Dean break down what “off track” actually means. boredom vs burnout vs misalignment vs money stress vs chasing external validation. You will learn how to run a quick career audit, spot the real root cause and make smart moves without blowing up your life. Expect practical career coaching, mindset reframes and a no fluff playbook for realignment, upskilling and rebuilding confidence after layoffs or life curveballs.
About the Guest:
Key Takeaways:
Diagnose “career off track”. boredom, burnout, identity shift, money pressure, or external validation.
Run a career audit. Ask “why” three times to find emotional, tactical, and approval drivers.
Separate normal growth stretch from true misalignment by tracking patterns in energy, performance, and values.
Treat roles as fluid. Shape work toward strengths, stretch projects, and measurable wins beyond the job description.
If pay is the gap, go tactical. explore adjacent industries or internal moves, then refresh resume and brand.
If it’s approval, reset the KPI. your goals set the track, not parents, peers, or LinkedIn highlight reels.
Post-pandemic layoffs are macro. zoom out, read the market, stop self-blaming.
Use “step-back roles” as a comeback platform. buy time to upskill, network, and target the next level.
Don’t panic pivot. recenter, get data, get support, then act like the CEO of your career.
When you cannot quit, remove drains first. list what depletes you, cut meetings, reduce exposure, lower friction.
If boredom hits, redirect energy. plug into ERGs, community, relationships, or side skills to restore momentum.
Be intentional with time. doom-scrolling and TV deepen stagnation, deliberate action reduces it.

In this The Mindful Journey episode host Sana sits down with leadership strategist and author Jim Carlough to break down a practical leadership model built for founders, managers, and high-pressure teams. The conversation unpacks why companies keep promoting technical top performers into management without real training, then act surprised when trust breaks, morale dips, and turnover spikes. Jim explains how his Six Pillars of Effective Leadership framework centers on integrity, empathy, stability, focus, and human-first execution so leaders can drive results without turning the workplace into a stress factory. Expect direct talk on psychological safety, employee retention costs, mentoring, and why humor used the right way can make leaders more approachable and teams more resilient.
Jim Carlough is a seasoned business strategist and speaker with 30+ years of experience mentoring managers and building high-performing teams with low attrition. He is the author of The Six Pillars of Effective Leadership. A Roadmap to Success, and he runs workshops focused on practical implementation, not theory.
Leadership is built, not gifted. Treat it as a daily practice, not a personality label.
Integrity is non-negotiable. Each night ask if you benefited at someone else’s expense, then undo it.
Trust is fragile. Once broken, psychological safety drops and is hard to restore.
Compassion and empathy cut turnover. Spot off days early and help before performance slips.
Many companies promote technical stars and say “good luck.” People leadership needs training.
Attrition is expensive. Replacement can cost about 150 to 250 percent of annual salary.
Focus means being close to the work. Listen, observe, and fix root causes, not symptoms.
Stability is calm consistency. Don’t let pressure change your tone, pace, or decisions.
Humor humanizes leaders. Use self-deprecating moments to ease tension, never identity-based jokes.
Mentoring speeds identity change. Reflection plus feedback turns concepts into habits.
Invest in succession. When your team sees the pillars they learn to lead the same way.
These pillars apply everywhere. Be the same leader at work, at home, and in public.
Drive results through human-first systems. Clear expectations plus care keeps teams accountable without fear, even when targets are tight today.

On The Mindful Journey Podcast, host Sana sits down with Mark Burnett to unpack a raw story of living with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s risk after being born at Camp Lejeune, a Marine base later linked to contaminated water. Mark shares what it felt like to hear a non-reversible prognosis, how his “programmer mindset” pushed him into deep research, and how mindfulness became practical for him. Not just meditation, but tracking symptoms, building self-awareness and staying present through fear.
This episode also includes personal claims about supplements and brain health that require extra caution. It is a lived-experience conversation, not medical advice. If you or someone you love is navigating Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s or dementia caregiving, take what helps. Then verify everything with qualified medical professionals before making changes.
Mark Burnett is a former database programmer who turned his problem-solving brain toward his own health after neurological diagnoses. Born in 1958 at Camp Lejeune, he connects his long-term symptoms to environmental exposure and shares his research-driven approach to brain restoration, symptom tracking and resilience under uncertainty.
A diagnosis can be a turning point. Panic is normal, but curiosity can become a strategy for coping.
Mindfulness can be operational. Log symptoms, track patterns and notice small wins that your brain will otherwise miss.
The medical system can be time-constrained. Advocate for yourself, bring questions and document what you experience.
Never replace medical care with internet research. Use research to have smarter conversations with clinicians.
Big health claims need receipts. Look for peer-reviewed evidence, limitations and conflicts of interest.
If you try any supplement or protocol, do it with medical supervision. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own.
Caregivers carry heavy invisible load. Support systems and realistic planning matter as much as optimism.
Brain health is not only “mindset”. It is sleep, movement, stress regulation, environment and consistent monitoring.
Prevention thinking can be useful, but avoid fear-based decisions. Focus on controllables and validated steps.
Your story can help others feel less alone, but it must be shared responsibly to avoid harm.

On The Mindful Journey, host Sana gets real about the woman who is holding everything together. Kids, jobs, no backup, constant pressure, zero margin. Guest Kristen Crabtree, author of Be The You, That’s More You Than You Have Ever Been and creator of Paramore Paradox, breaks down what self-care looks like when life is already maxed out. Not the aesthetic version. The survival version.
Kristen Crabtree helps people who have spent years being dependable and invisible reconnect with who they really are. Her work blends science, philosophy, and metaphysics in plain language and focuses on awareness-first tools that fit real life. She also built Paramour Paradox, a self-recovery ecosystem designed to support truth-seeking with practical resources.
Self-discovery does not require retreats or long journaling sessions. Most identity recovery happens in small gaps during everyday life.
Redefine self-care as survival. If you wait for “free time” you will never start.
Practice awareness in routine moments. Eat one meal with full attention or take one intentional breath before walking into work.
Use a grounding question. “What do I need right now that won’t cost time I don’t have?”
Stop chasing a “new you.” The goal is reconnecting with the part of you that already exists under burnout and caretaking.
Try “third-person narration” for 2 to 3 minutes while doing chores. It creates distance from stress and reconnects you to consciousness.
Make it a family-friendly game. The “Detective” exercise helps kids explore who you are through clues around the home and routines.
Build boundaries that are tiny but consistent. Even 5 minutes of quiet practice with kids nearby can shift the entire household tone.
Learn the difference between true self and inner critic. True self is encouraging and never cruel. If the voice is harsh it’s conditioned noise.
One small change creates ripple effects. A calmer nervous system changes how you parent, work, and show up in community.

On this episode of The Mindful Journey with host Sana, Pastor Alex Horton unpacks a raw and honest faith journey. He moves from childhood bullying, distrust in God and deep mental health struggles to a sense of calling into ministry and pastoral leadership. This conversation speaks directly to listeners wrestling with faith deconstruction, identity, anxiety and purpose in an always-online world.
Alex shares how moments of intense despair, including suicidal thoughts, collided with an experience he interprets as God’s intervention through the comforting presence of his late cat. That turning point pushed him from chasing a safe career in cybersecurity to pursuing religious studies, a Master of Divinity and building an online ministry.
If you have ever wondered how to balance paying the bills with living a life that actually feels meaningful, this dialogue will resonate. It is a grounded look at vocation, digital distractions, spiritual formation and why your questions do not disqualify you from growth.
Pastor Alex Horton is a young Christian pastor-in-training and founder of “The Heart Of What We Believe,” an online ministry focused on helping others encounter God’s love in a practical way. After a childhood marked by bullying, disconnection from church and serious mental health battles, Alex rediscovered faith and shifted from cybersecurity studies to religious studies and pursuit of a Master of Divinity. His work centers on youth, young adults and anyone searching for real hope beyond social media validation.
Painful experiences like bullying and mental health challenges can become platforms for authentic ministry when they are integrated, not denied.
There is a difference between surviving and truly living. Careers that only cover bills without aligning with purpose eventually feel empty.
Alex describes an intense moment of suicidal ideation interrupted by what he understands as God’s comforting presence through his late cat. That reframed his sense of God’s nearness and value for his life.
Calling is not always a dramatic voice. Often it is the growing pull toward what you cannot stop learning, talking about and serving through, even when it pays less.
You can live out your faith even in a secular job by being a good steward of money, time and influence while serving others through church and community.
In a culture obsessed with likes and online validation, rooting identity in being made in the image of God changes how you see your worth, relationships and decisions.
Gratitude is not only about material comfort. For Alex, the central focus is the Christian belief that Jesus’ sacrifice makes forgiveness and hope possible.
Your questions, doubts and spiritual confusion are not deal-breakers. They can be the doorway into a more honest, grounded relationship with yourself, with others and with God.

On this episode of The Mindful Journey, host Sana cuts through the wellness noise and tackles a hard question. Why are so many high achieving women still burned out even though they meditate, journal, and breathe on cue. Somatic leadership coach Rachel Korb breaks down why mindfulness alone is not enough if we ignore the menstrual cycle, the nervous system, and the unique 28 day infradian rhythm that shapes female energy, focus, and emotional resilience. Together they unpack the window of tolerance, cycle specific stress responses, and how women can design cycle aware leadership that actually works inside fast paced remote teams and startup culture. If you are tired of feeling like you are failing at self care despite doing everything right, this conversation gives you language, frameworks, and body based tools that match real life leadership demands.
Rachel Korb is a somatic leadership coach, startup veteran, and creator of nervous system informed frameworks used across more than 36 countries. She has led and coached in high pressure tech and remote environments, helping women leaders understand how physiology, trauma, and the nervous system shape performance and burnout. Rachel specializes in female nervous system mastery, cycle aware leadership, and practical body first tools that fit into real workdays, not idealized retreat schedules. She now teaches her signature approach through 1:1 coaching and her upcoming program Nervous System Mastery for Women.
Most high performing women are not failing at mindfulness. Their nervous system and menstrual cycle are in a different phase, so mindset only practices hit a ceiling.
Women in reproductive years run on two rhythms. a 24 hour circadian rhythm and a roughly 28 day infradian rhythm. Workplaces are built for the first, not the second.
The window of tolerance shifts across the cycle. Follicular and ovulatory phases widen resilience and stress capacity, while luteal and bleeding phases narrow tolerance and heighten reactivity.
In high tension moments, women often swing between fight or flight, people pleasing, and shutdown. This shows up as overcommitment, boundary issues, or total collapse in energy.
Cycle aware leadership is not fantasy planning. It is smart scheduling. Use follicular and ovulation for visibility, pitching, and complex decisions. Use luteal for admin, finishing projects, and simplifying demands.
In the luteal vulnerability window, fast nervous system tools work best. 30 second physiological sighs, humming or gentle vocal work, slow exhales, self massage, and warm compresses support regulation inside real meetings.
True inclusion means separating gender roles from biological sex and designing cultures that respect different physiologies instead of forcing everyone into a 24 hour productivity model.
Micro practices beat ideal routines. Short, body based resets across the day create sustainable performance, better decisions, and less self blame for women in leadership.
