Why is it that we resist or even sabotage doing what we know is the right thing for our health, well-being and personal growth ?
For example, we have a burning desire to eat healthily but then find ourselves reaching for the third cookie or slice of pizza rather than the vegetables.
In this Episode we discuss this conflict between what we want to do (or know we should do) and what we feel like doing. The struggle between our long-term goals and the tempting whispers of instant gratification.
Understanding this is the first step to mastering it because it is easy to brush these off as moments of weakness and be upset with ourselves. Turns out though that this is just a natural part of being human and understanding the underpinning brain science is really helpful.
We explain how this battle of wills actually plays out in the intricate pathways of our brain called the Limbic System. We take a look into what Dr. Andrew Huberman defines as Limbic Friction which is the energy required to overcome anxiety, procrastination and/or fatigue.
This friction isn't a flaw, it's a feature. The challenge lies in recognizing when it serves us and when it derails our best-laid plans. There's no magical off-switch for limbic friction. It's a part of the intricate, beautiful, sometimes maddening tapestry of being human. But by understanding it, we are no longer at its mercy. We can ride its waves, harness its energy, and channel it towards our goals and dreams.
Limbic friction, in all its challenge, offers us profound gifts. It reminds us of our primal roots, pushes us to evolve, and presents wonderful opportunities for growth.
Being armed with knowledge is the first step. But in this Episode, we also offer some strategies and tools to recognise it and work with it so that it works for us rather than frustrating us.
In essence, designing a limbic-friendly lifestyle isn't about stringent rules or constant battles. It's more about understanding this beautiful dance between who we were, who we are, and who we aspire to be.
Every time we choose the challenging path over the easy one, we're sculpting a stronger, wiser version of ourselves.
Take a listen for more as we shine a light on navigating the discomfort of life's challenges and not eradicating them but learning to dance with them and harness them for growth and healing.
We talk you through embracing, celebrating, and mastering the beautiful mess of our brains and how to ride the wave, one mindful choice at a time.
