Mason is always one of my most chilled and down-to-earth guests. We didn't go deep into the science or philosophy in this one, but instead we broke down a very practical approach to living a good life. At least, what *we* would deem as a good life. I have a feeling you'll agree with us, though, and hopefully you can adopt some of these real examples and add them into your life for the better. We also talk about the paradox of choice, "cultivating" good energy, goal setting, and even Mason's upcoming honeymoon destinations. Hope you enjoy!

Paula asks: “Do you feel in today's society working out is used positively to improve people's mental health? You know the saying, 'food is the most abused anxiety drug and exercise is the most underutilized antidepressant.' What are your thoughts?”
There are plenty of articles and videos out there that go in-depth on the science behind why eating healthy and exercising are beneficial for your mental health. So, in this Minisode, I decided to go over a different reason that isn't talked about as much. One that I think is even more important and more motivating than the benefits of better sleep, less fat, more muscle, etc. Hope you enjoy!

I think this is going to be a MTFP evergreen episode that some of you will replay over and over again. Listen to it when you're feeling down, when you're feeling stuck, and when you don't know what you should do next. I decided to make this Minisode after someone DMed me about how to get out of a rut. He used to be in the military and worked out every day, and now that he's out, he's only gone about 10 times in the last 9 months. He's judging himself and comparing himself to his past self, and I try to shake him out of it. If you're in the same spot, I hope I shake you out of it too.

Kelly is an online nutrition coach, competitive weightlifter, and all-around great gal from Texas. Kelly and I had an emotional roller coaster of a conversation. She touched on hitting rock bottom after her high school years, where she was confused about her future, worried about her weight, and battling with depression. Eventually, enough was enough and she got off all medications, hired an online fitness coach, and got into weightlifting. Kelly's vulnerability and words of wisdom were admirable in this episode and I think it will resonate with a lot of you. Make sure to give it a listen and definitely check her out. Enjoy!

Anonymous asks: “I’m in a comfortable job right now, but I hate it and want to pursue something I'm more passionate about but the pay is less and the risk is higher. What do I do?"
As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, I have no idea what you should do and I'm no expert on this subject. However, I do work for myself and have done a considerable amount of research on this exact question. I didn't take my career path lightly, and in this Minisode, I break down exactly how I would approach it. I think you need two things: 1) to not bullshit yourself about this being what you TRULY want and 2) a plan, if you decide this IS the right move. Again, this is a very individual issue, but I think you will get closer to finding your answer after listening to this Minisode. Hope it helps.

Josh asks: “Could you run us through how you maximize your recovery? Tips/tricks, what to do if you’re recovering slowly, things to consider/change.”
I kept this Minisode TIGHT. There's a lot to cover with recovery strategies and I wanted to touch on all of them: training, nutrition, sleep, and stress. I break down exactly how you need to approach each one so you can prevent injury and get the best results possible. Tons of value in this one, so listen closely and rewind parts when necessary. Hope you enjoy it.

This chat with Miguel is the epitome of what "The More Than Fitness Podcast" is about. In the first half of the episode, we get into the nitty-gritty science of the pros and cons of fasting, intuitive eating, and what it truly means to be "evidence-based." Then, for the second half of the episode, we do a 180 and get more personal about what it means to actually be vulnerable in a relationship with someone else.
Miguel is one of the smartest people I know—he's currently getting his Master's degree at Columbia University (studied nutritional biochemistry for undergrad at McGill University) under a mentor from Yale—so it makes sense that he approaches relationships very logically and in a calculated manner (his words). He tries to mitigate his risk of getting hurt by putting walls up, but he said he's finally ready to drop these walls to take his relationship to the next level. Which, as we discuss, can be terrifying. This was such a fun episode and I think you're going to learn and feel more than ever. Enjoy!

Azra asks: “Hi Matt! I've been working out consistently for 5 weeks and am seeing great results! However, I'm about to go traveling around Asia for a month and am very worried that I'll slip up and reverse all of the great work I've done so far. What are your tips for A) working out while traveling (with limited access to gyms), and B) keeping track of calories of unfamiliar food? Thank you!”
In this Minisode, I give Azra two overarching concepts that are paramount to remember while traveling and remaining fit. Too many people struggle with the all-or-nothing mentality while traveling and expect to keep the same rate of progress they had while at home ⏤ this is a recipe for failure and I tell her exactly what to do instead. After I get done talking about the higher-level concepts, I dive into the specific daily tactics she can use to optimize her training and nutrition while on her trip. Hope you enjoy!

Brandon asks: "I’m trying to be healthier and bring my weight down from 230lbs to 185lbs but a real stick in my progress is marijuana, which I use for anxiety relief. EVERY TIME I eat or smoke marijuana products, I lose all semblance of willpower and eat 1000-3000 calories. Any advice to balance marijuana usage and diet goals?"
Even if you don't consume marijuana, the advice I give Brandon in this Minisode can absolutely apply to your life as well. Many of you don't need marijuana to struggle with cravings or overeating at night time, so in this Minisode I lay out several strategies that you can implement TONIGHT to avoid these common struggles with willpower. All it takes is a little preparation and planning, and I wanna show you exactly what to do. Hope you enjoy!

I've looked up to Eric for a long time and it was an honor to finally be able to sit down and chat. Eric is a scientist, competitive lifter/physique athlete, a part of Team 3DMJ, co-creator of the Muscle and Strength Pyramid ebooks, and about 163 other things. He's impressive, to say the least. But even more so, he's a very chill and humble guy who articulates his thoughts better than most. I got to cover a little bit of his background, but I really wanted to deep dive into why he thinks the way he thinks and how we—the listeners—can apply his thought processes into making our own lives better. I also asked him how the everyday person can know what's true or not when it comes to diet and exercise information since you hear people talking about the Keto diet one day and the Vegan diet the next...who's right? Eric breaks it all down in this episode and I can't wait for you to hear it. Enjoy!
