AFC Bournemouth 1 v Manchester United 1. Ruben Amorim : “It was a tough game. The start of the game was hard for us, high pressure from the opponent. If you look at our games, it’s always a little bit our fault the way we suffer goals and then everything is so much harder to do.

“But if you look at the game, especially the second half and especially with the sending-off, we arranged ways to get inside the box and that is something that we are improving. We created chances, we managed to score one, but I feel that we lost two points today.

“The first thing is to focus on ourselves and not on the other teams. The next thing is to be really honest. We are at a different level in this moment, but everything can change. I remember when I started seeing the Premier League, it was the opposite. We need to focus, step-by-step, not trying to think too far ahead.

“We have an ultimate goal that is winning the Premier League. I’m not crazy. I know that is not going to be next year, but we are trying to build something and the small things are really important and we did that during this year. We need to improve next year. I know that is important for the fans.”

Newcastle United 4 v Manchester United 1. Ruben Amorim : “Many mistakes. Newcastle were stronger in second balls. We did a lot of mistakes that made it harder to win a game. That’s all.

“It’s a little bit of everything. It’s hard to point to one thing. It’s really hard to win against these top teams like Newcastle. When we make mistakes to help the opponent it’s even harder. Let’s focus on Thursday.”

On the criticism of his side, he added: “I understand [the criticism] but I don’t care. Nothing is worse than losing games. People can say whatever they want to say. I don’t want to defend myself or anything like that.

“If you look at our position in the table, it says it all. Thursday is really important. Losing games is the hardest part by far of this job. Let’s focus on Thursday.

“Of course it’s really important. We have a chance to get Champions League. It’s an important game. It will be really hard. We have to focus on that and get to the next stage.

Lyon 2 v Manchester United 2. Ruben Amorim : “It’s important [for Andre Onana] to focus on the next game in the Premier League, then think about the second leg. Against Lyon, when one player makes a mistake, the whole team makes a mistake.”

“We will continue to do the same things. Training, seeing the game, trying to choose the best XI to win every match.”

“We are at the same level [as Lyon] for the next game, so we have a game with our fans now and will give all we have to go to the next stage,” he told TNT Sport. “We are improving game by game but need to be more clinical.

“We did well. In the first half, we had some difficulties, especially in the beginning to press them.

“In the second half we adapted and controlled the game. We were near their box [a lot]. We did well, but we can do better.”

Manchester United 0 v Manchester City 0. Ruben Amorim : “We were closer to scoring a goal, they had more possession but that is normal.

“Every player can improve. They are here because they showed something at other clubs. They have the quality. We are a team more dangerous in transition but we need to spend more time in the final third to create opportunities.

“I can see it. The connections. The players are more comfortable in the positions. We can find players between the lines and are calm with the ball. We are better but we have a lot to improve.

“I’m not naive or crazy. I understand looking at the opponents there is a big gap but as a leader I can’t say we’re going to take a lot of time. You have to feel urgency, to hurry to do something better. At a club like ours you don’t have a lot of time. We are in a rush, that is clear.

“Both teams aren’t fighting for the title – that changed the game. You can make a funny game but that feeling of not losing a point and winning every game at home is not here. It’s hard to say that. We need to fight for big things. If we were fighting for big things the feeling would be completely different. You’d feel the urgency that you didn’t feel today because both teams have lots of doubts.”

Leicester City 0 v Manchester United 3. Ruben Amorim : "What surprised me the most is the way he works every day, that was a surprise. Even we in Portugal see Bruno with that frustration and I was really surprised. He is a very good professional.

"And you can understand that frustration. He wants to win. And that is a good thing. So that was a surprise to me."

 I don't feel that in Bruno. He's a special guy in that aspect. He's always ready. He can recover quite well.

"I don't know the future. But I'm just reading what the performance department tells me, the numbers. And then what I see in the game. So I always see a Bruno that is dangerous and a Bruno that can recover in every situation."

Manchester United 4 v Real Sociedad 1. Ruben Amorim : “It’s not just [what he brings to] the team, it’s the club. We already spoke about Bruno a lot of times.

“We know that he’s frustrated. We know that he wants to win so bad. Sometimes, when we’re not playing well, he changes position and goes after the ball.

“Sometimes, he needs to trust a little bit more in his teammates to allow them to do their job and help him to play better.

“When we need him, he’s always there. He can change position. He can bring the ball forward. He can score goals. He can make transitions like he showed today.

“In the last 10 minutes of the game, he can defend. He’s a perfect captain for our team. We need to help him to win titles because he’s a legend.”
