“He’s always available to play in different positions, when we need a goal, a free-kick, an assist, he’s there. He’s a very good example for the other players.

“We need more Brunos, that is clear. Not just the character, the availability in this league. He is so decisive with the ball and without the ball.

Real Sociedad 1 v Manchester United 1. Ruben Amorim : “Until the penalty, we had control of the game and then the penalty changed the momentum.

“In the last 30 minutes, we were really, really tired and you could feel it in the game.

“So we take it to Old Trafford and it will be a different game. The pressure is going to be on us in that stadium and we have to be ready.

“The key will be surviving physically for Sunday (against Arsenal) and to be ready and fresh for Thursday.”

Ruben Amorim : “Being naive is to think that we are going to do this season or are going to be the best contender for the next season. I know that in this moment everybody knows everything. I was a pundit when I finished my career. I know it is really easy.

“Our goal is to win the Premier League. Maybe it is not with me but our goal as a club, the board, is winning the Premier League like we did in the past with all the great glories and the legends of this club.

Manchester United 3 v Ipswich Town 2. Ruben Amorim : “The support was amazing. I have felt that from day one. They just want to see a team fight till the end, we did that today.

“All the things in the game were against us and it was a good win for us. We have to improve in every aspect. We lack the characteristics in our squad to play differently. We need to have more possession but I felt we were more calm.

“Especially, we need to score more goals. We managed to fight all the situations during the game and deserved three points.”

Everton 2 v Manchester United 2. Ruben Amorim : “We just played one half and managed to draw. We didn’t exist in the first half.

“Everything we did during the week. The free man was there and the space was there. We lost balls we can’t lose.

“At half-time I said no matter the result we are going to do what we did during the week [training] but with more energy.

“It was not different in terms of our positioning but different in the quality we played the game.”

He added: “In this moment, every stadium is really difficult, especially ours, with our fans supporting all the time.

“My goal is to win the next game to give some happiness to our fans because they deserve it a lot.”

Tottenham Hotspur 1 v Manchester United 0. Ruben Amorim : “In the end, they scored, we didn’t. That was the big difference in the game. We had a lot of chances but in the end they scored one and we didn’t.

“The first step is to create situations. We have had games where we are around the box and not created situations. This game, we create situations. But in this game with two teams not doing well, one goal was always going to make the difference.

“You start with one idea. We were asking about a long week for so long. And we worked our principles but day after day you lose players that change your approach to the game. I could not play the same way with Joshua as I can with Amad.

“Sometimes you want Bruno to reach the ball in the build-up because he’s really good at switching the play. But then you want Bruno also to press and it’s really hard. And when you are changing all the time to get the players to react to the base, it’s really hard.

“4-4-2 in the low block is harder to play against this team than what we did today, that’s my opinion. They are so open and stretch the team. What you see guys and what you discuss every week, I also see. I have a lot of problems, my job is so, so hard here. But I stick with my beliefs.”

Manchester United 2 v Leicester City 1. Ruben Amorim : “We have to believe it until the end, but this time has nothing to do with the time of Fergie. “I think the performance…we have to do so much better with the ball, without the ball. We didn’t have any energy in the beginning, especially in the first half.

“Then in the second half, we played a little bit better, with a little bit more speed, winning second balls and then we managed to turn things around. “It was a good result, not a good performance.

“I cannot focus just on saving the season or the momentum with a cup. It’s not the way I see football, it’s not the way I see Manchester United. “I’m not thinking about the end of the season because the final is at the end of the season. I don’t care about that, I care about the moment and the moment is not good enough.

“A good result. We move forward to the next stage. We have a week to prepare, but today was not a good day.”

Manchester United 0 v Crystal Palace 2. Ruben Amorim : “The result was really bad but the performance wasn’t as bad as the last games – we controlled the game. We controlled their transitions quite well although you know they’ll have some situations. We suffered two goals that we can avoid. We played better than in some games but we taste nothing good.”

“I think it’s a serious situation – it’s hard on us. He’s a great player and a strong character in the dressing room. It’s time for us to help him like he helps us every day. They felt it, when you’re a player you know when something is serious. Let’s hope for better days for him.”

“We have had games without connections and difficult to transfer the ball in the final third. We did that today, created chances. Kobbie gave us connections and they found it hard to find the player to press. The idea worked in that moment but when you don’t win the game you can’t have any taste of good things – we will have that tomorrow.”

“It’s normal for the fans to feel that way. It’s a really hard season for the fans. Football can change. We had momentum before this game and it’s gone down again. We will work towards the next game on our idea and move forward. Better days will come.”

It was not a great performance and we can see it but we fight for the win, we gave some time to the team to understand the game, to have that bit of luck you need sometimes to win a football match. A clean sheet. Let's take this feeling to the next game.

"We had some games we lost at the end and nobody cared because it's the result which counts. I remember chances we missed against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth… we have a lot to improve, we didn't play so well with the ball."
