Today we are with our friend Terry Hershey and I would like to talk about his most recent Sabbath Moment post titled, See With Our Heart. Only I want to expand the topic to include how a Soft Heart can open a Window to Your Soul.
Throughout my life I have discovered, every now and again, moments that I call “Windows to My Soul.” Typically these moments occur for me when my heart is softened or even broken. Weddings are often joyful moments that soften my heart and allow me a moment to see past my conscious self and grant me entrance through those thin places that separate our conscious and unconscious selves (or into our soul).
However, I have also found windows to my soul most often occur in the tragic moments of my life: generally in times of some kind of grievous loss.
Let’s see what Terry has to say.

Let me tell you Paul I am most excited about our show today with our very special guest, Tim Timmons—a man that shaped the fundamentals of my Christian belief system so profoundly that I still follow the precepts he taught me almost 40 years ago.
Now, forgive me for the, abut to come, longer than usual introduction but it is necessary to establish a context for our conversation with Tim.
In 1980, as a man leaning more toward atheism than any other faith system, I found myself in a challenge that required me to read a couple books in the Bible as means to disprove the precepts of Christianity I read The Gospel of John and St Paul’s Letter to the Romans. And in the process, I discovered an almost conversion experience just by reading the text. The Spirit of God led me to realize that there really was something to this Jesus thing. The person of Jesus, his goodness and his Godness overwhelmed me.
Very shortly after that experience my sister told me about an Easter Sunrise Service being held at the John Wayne Tennis Club in Newport Beach. Not one inclined to enter the rooms of a church, I felt safe in a tennis court.
It was then that I was confronted by an enormously powerful speaker that spoke of the same kind of Jesus that I had read about. After that message I was done. Jesus owned me. I wholeheartedly gave myself over to his grace and love. That speaker was our guest, Tim Timmons, who soon thereafter became my spiritual mentor, and as I said earlier, my life has never been the same since.
Since that day Timmons became the Founding Pastor of a church of close to fifteen thousand people called South Coast Community Church of which I became a minister after completing three years of seminary.
Today Tim Timmons is a much different kind of Christian leader after having been exposed in the late 80’s to Doug Coe and a group called The Family—a discrete group of Christian influencers with a profound impact on Washington DC, including congressmen and Presidents.
In fact, as we sit here today in September 2019, last month Netflix aired a 5-episode documentary titled The Family, which has become surprisingly popular (and, naturally, somewhat controversial).
So… enough introduction, let’s talk to Tim Timmons about his relationship with The Family and how it has profoundly impacted his life.

Hey Paul, it’s great to be here with you again at OC Talk Radio after a couple weeks off as I was working in Uganda, Africa. There is nothing that enriches my soul more than serving the poorest of the poor—people that live on less than $2.00 per day in the most rural of villages. And believe me, rural is grossly understated. They live on dirt floors in one-room homes with no electricity, no running water, no toilet and most often 10 to 20 miles from any form of a somewhat urban town.
Today I’m visiting with a fellow traveller CEO and Founder of Wells of Life, Nick Jordan. Wells of Life is a non-profit NGO with a mission to bring access to clean water, as well as transforming villages to adopt adequate sanitation and hygiene practices.
By the end of 2019 Wells of Life will have installed more than 500 clean water wells in Uganda, serving 500,000 people and saving the lives of nearly 32,000 children under 6 years old and approximately 50,000 people in total.
Born, raised and educated in Ireland, Nick holds a bachelor’s degree from University College, Dublin. In the 1980’s Nick immigrated to the US and has since proudly earned his citizenship as a devout American.
In our show today I want to discuss the subject of Passion, but Passion with a Purpose to make a difference on this oh so needy planet. I personally do not know anyone more passionate about serving the poor than Nick Jordan.
So let’s find out what Nick has to say about Passion with a Purpose:

Today we are privileged to have with us Wendy Hooper Ross, a successful real estate agent and residential market analyst.
Wendy’s story will most certainly resonate with all of us as we discuss loss, grief and recovery.
Wendy met her future husband at an industry event in 2011 and soon became incredibly close friends over the next few years. They finally admitted they were made for each other and began their romance in early 2017. Soon after, her husband’s cancer, which had been in remission for nearly 3 years, came back and they went headlong into the battle together. It became clear in 2018 that he was losing his fight and they were married. 41 days later he was gone.
Wendy says, “I lost my love and my dearest friend that day. Now a new life begins.”
So let’s chat with Wendy about loss, grief and recovery.

My guest today, Marc Ottestad is all about connection—connecting people, connecting ideas or patterns, and connecting to God. And he provides strategies to accomplish those connections.
Today Marc and I plan to talk about the most undervalued character trait of all great leaders--humility. First of all, I would like everyone to consider that leadership is a character trait which impacts BOTH leading yourself and leading others. And humility is a cornerstone for leading and living a most meaningful life.
Marc Ottestad is a fellow advocate of humility in self and in group leadership.

Charlie is still in Africa working with WELLS OF LIFE helping them expand their network of clean water wells, each of which provides clean drinking and bathing water to thousand of ordinary villagers. Freeing them from the common diseases born in bad water. And freeing their women and children from being "beasts of burden", and the endless hours they spend walking to distant wells and carrying clean water back to their villages (on their backs) to cook and clean.
So until he gets back next week, here's another "best of" episode from our growing backlog of inspiring and transformational stories. With Charlie discussing the difference between an "ego driven life" and a "soul driven life".
Enjoy! See you back with more new episodes next week (and Charlie's update from Africa).
It's that time of year again when Charlie makes the long trip back to Africa for WELLS OF LIFE. So until he returns at the end of the month, here's a previous show about his last trip there to remind you of all the work this wonderful charity is doing.
Don't miss Charlie's latest update when he returns in two weeks!

I have wanted to discuss the subject of the 12 Steps for Life for several months now. I just had not found the expert I needed to guide me through a better understanding of the process.
My guest to day is my old, old friend Tom who has been working with the 12 Steps for more than 17 years. Although retired, Tom continues to serve at the Covenant Hills Recovery Center, which focuses on the biological, psychological, social and spiritual conditions of their patients.
Tom has worked with hundreds of people with some kind of addiction, teaching and implementing the 12 Steps. As a recovering alcoholic myself I have always been impressed by the power of the 12 Steps and I have frequently pondered the idea of how the Steps would be of immense value to the general population at large—not merely those suffering from some sort of substance abuse.
Tommy is my guy. He is the one that can lead a discussion on this intriguing and essential subject.
