Today my special guest is Karen Hill. With more than 20 years experience in leading corporations and individuals, Karen is passionate about enabling individuals to realize their full potential.
Karen is a multi-gifted consultant, with past positions of Vice President, Department Head, and consultant with companies like General Motors, Hughes Aircraft, and Right Management (an international talent management company).
In 2012 Karen started her own consulting firm, develop inc. She is passionate about people and their development but two things objectives seem guide her many talents: (1) Enabling Individuals to realize their full potential, and (2) Corporate Social Responsibility.
I’d like to devote half of our time to Corporate Social Responsibility. I think with the influence of the Millennials, many companies are moving toward that noble cause.

Today I’m visiting with our good friend, Terry Hershey. If you’re a frequent listener of show then you’re familiar with Terry Hershey, who is a regular guest on the show. Terry is a prolific writer, conference keynote speaker, renowned landscape architect, and spiritual advisor.
Today, I plan to chat thoughtfully about “The Meaning of Life.” So many people struggle with it as have I for the last few years. But I’ve come to the conclusion it’s not all that complicated. That’s what I want to talk about today.
In his blog, Sabbath Moment, Terry quoted Joseph Campbell saying, “Life itself has no meaning,” Joseph Campbell wrote. “However, each of us has meaning, and we bring it to life.”
With that quote we begin. We end with only 2 things you need to do to find meaning in your life.

My special guest today is author and entrepreneur Jim Palmer. Jim is the Founder of the Dream Business Academy as well as the host of Dream Business Coach TV and a weekly podcast titled Dream Builders Radio. If I count correctly he has authored eight books. Today I want to talk about his latest book, “Just Say Yes.”
Although Jim’s primary audience is small business owners and entrepreneurs, his insights on living “a life that matters” are remarkable. I read “Just Say Yes” and quickly decided I have to get this guy on The Next Chapter with Charlie. I’d like to talk about “Just Say Yes to the Life You Really Want” and I can’t wait to hear his amazing insights.
You can more on Jim at www.getjimpalmer.com

After our show last week with Shane Roberson our studio Producer, Paul Roberts, challenged our guest on the validity of the newest corporate initiatives around Corporate Culture. Paul was so impassioned about the subject that it prompted me to suggest a Round 2.
I have no idea what will happen today as we have asked Paul to share his concern. We’re doing this today because I don’t think Paul is alone. Is the popular notion of improving “Corporate Culture” just the latest version of “The Mission Statement?”
My guest today for the second consecutive week is Shane Roberson. Shane is a corporate consultant for a consulting firm named TAG—an organization deeply committed to improving corporate culture.

My guest today is Shane Roberson. I first met Shane a couple years ago with our good friend Terry Hershey. Shane is an expert in leadership and organizational development with more than 20 experience.
But Shane’s passion and the topic of our podcast today is all about crafting thriving organizational cultures. He comes alongside individuals, teams, and organizations to understand “why they exist” as a means to make an impact on the organization.
Today I want to talk about organizational, family, and individual cultures. What works and what doesn’t.
Oh… one more note: Shane is also co-author the book, Your Intentional Difference which taps into the differences he seeks to bring out in everyone he encounters.

My guest today is Kevin Fehrman. Kevin is a wills, trusts, and probate attorney that started his own business nearly 40 years ago. His is also a popular public speaker and renowned singer. He has sung the National Anthem several times for the Los Angeles Angels, opened with song at an event in which Dr. Laura was the main speaker, and has sung at scores of civic and public events, churches and weddings.
In fact I invited Kevin to sing for me at my very first major speaking event to more than 2,000 people about 30 years ago. Then a few moths later I performed his wedding. He has now been married to his wife Nancy for 30 years. That means I was married for only 1 year when I did his and Nancy’s wedding. Man Kevin… we’re getting old.
Kevin works as a personal one-on one lawyer for "mainstream or middle Americans,” what he refers to as “hard-working, family-loving individuals.” So today we just might get into wills and trusts just a bit.
But our main subject will be about Kevin and Nancy’s decision to simplify their lives by moving from Orange County with more than 3 million people to Boise, Idaho with a population of just over 200,000. Moving away from the insanity of the big city is something most all of us have considered at one time or another, especially as we grow older.
Let’s discover the process Kevin and Nancy used to make that decision.

My guest today is Duff Harold, and boy, are you in for a treat of enthusiasm and optimism. Duff is a cameraman in the live sports network television broadcast industry. Now in his forties you would think that Duff has been in the entertainment industry for decades but he actually only got started 3 or 4 years ago. He was teaching school at Coronado High School when he "fell into" an opportunity to totally change careers after he was forty.
Duff started at the bottom of the industry and very quickly reached the status of the Top 100 Sports Camera Operators in the country. Discover Duff’s never ending journey to discover joy and meaning in his life, a journey that began in high school as a drug dealer with the Mexican Mafia to college to lifeguard to special education teacher and now as a highly regarded sports cameraman.
Warning: You may want to take a Xanax first—Duff’s energy is contagious:)

My guest today is someone I’ve been trying to get on the show for months but we just couldn’t schedule it. Finally, we were able to connect today. Her name is Shauna Sopko. Shauna is a mid-thirties single mother of 2 children… who has discovered how to live a full life of adventure and service, while, at the same time, maintaining her primary job- which being a great mom.
With 20 years of sobriety, Shauna works 45 hrs a week in a treatment facility, as well as owning a massage therapy and healing business. Motherhood is so important to her that she gave up a lucrative modeling career just to focus on being the mom her kids needed.
I’ve watched Shauna from afar for a few years. As you will discover, she is quite simply an amazing woman.
Shauna’s life story is so compelling. She has successfully overcome tragedy, death, and abuse… and yet she has discovered how to stay happy and compassionate, while pursuing her passion for foreign travel and adventure.
For that reason I am titling this show: Unstoppable-One Woman’s Determined Journey from Dregs to Dreams.

Today I’m feeling a need to talk about a subject that haunts just about all of us: Fear and Self-Doubt. Successful real estate mogul Sanford Coggins once told us on this podcast that, in his experience, “self-doubt” is the primary roadblock to achieving your dreams in life. Fear is mostly certainly holds its own as the other roadblock.
I think we learn far too early that failure is tragic, embarrassing, and proof that you are “Less Than.” Which is simply untrue. Neil Gaimen in his famous college graduation speech encourage the graduating seniors to “make mistakes, make lots of mistakes, make HUGE mistakes.”
That’s because mistakes are a marvelous tool that can lead you to eventual success. First of all, if you make a mistake, it means YOU TRIED! You were “in the game.” That alone is worthy. And, in addition, there are all the things you learn along the way.
But often, instead of learning helpful tools we learn to be afraid and doubt our ability. Therein lies the tragedy.

NOTE: Some minor sound distortion in the beginning.
Our topic today is titled, “A Life Well Lived.” This show will offer most interesting ideas on living boldly from the heart.
Today I’m visiting with Suzanne Barber. Suzanne Barber is a practicing Certified Holistic Nutritionist, an artist, teacher and creator of extremely popular gift cards offered at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, CA. But I must admit, I am mostly attracted to Suzanne because she is a fearless adventurer.
Suzanne has recently put together Picture Book of serenity and excitement. Yes, both fit together. The book has two titles: For guests at the Montage Resort it is titled A Life Well Lived and for the mass audience she has titled it A Vibrant Life.
My favorite Suzanne Barber quote is, “Living straight from the heart may not be the safest way, but it is my way.”
