The No Proscenium Podcast

Tara O'Con is an experiential artist and transformation coach whose work you may be familiar with as a performer in Third Rail Projects' Then She Fell and The Grand Paradise. Tara's performance in Then She Fell is a key part of our host Noah Nelson's own immersive origin story.

In this After Dark episode, Noah catches up with Tara after her first day on the load out of Then She Fell to talk about the impact of that production on her professional and personal journey.

Note:

Tara is also offering NoPro Listeners a free transformation coaching session where you can talk about navigating big changes, finding clarity and perspective around a particular life challenge, getting unstuck (creatively or otherwise), goal setting, or simply a place for reflection to process the moment.

Liz Rosenthal, co-curator of Venice VR at the Venice International Film Festival with Michel Reilhac, joins host Noah Nelson to talk about the 2020 edition. This year's event is Venice VR Expanded, a hybrid digital/physical exposition of over 40 works in VR -- from 360 film to live theatrical performances -- across a host of venues virtual and physical.

And the best news: if you own a VR headset of just about any stripe, you can experience some of the programming at home as the festival unfolds.

On top of all that: this is just a great conversation.

Venice VR Expanded runs Wed, Sep 2, 2020 — Sat, Sep 12, 2020.

On Monday of this week NYC's Third Rail Projects announced the end of Then She Fell, the seminal immersive production which inspired countless fans and creators, after seven and a half years and 4,444 performances due to the ongoing pandemic.

That night we asked our team to gather in our Discord, along with some friends, to share memories and talk about what the show meant to them.

You can also find our tribute post on the website.

So our already planned bye week nearly got a bit more "bye" to it. The plan was to drop the next installment of Webbed Toes... but when I opened up the files this morning it turns out that Craig, our Discord recording tool, had basically eaten Zay's track up and turned him into a squirrel.   Luckily I had been paranoid about Craig that week, and used Audio Hijack to record the session as a backup.   Even better: I REMEMBERED that I did that about halfway through writing this post and telling you all we'd have no episode.   This time out: our favorite episode of the series so far, some Robotech talk, and the subtle art of subverting musical homages to avoid lawsuits. Sean Stewart has been a lot of things in his storied career in telling stories. Novelist, LARPwright, actor, theatre tech, and most famously of all: one of the creators of the modern Alternate Reality Game.

Now add "internationally produced playwright" to the list.

Sean and Noah talk about his upcoming interactive play Roundabout, which will be performed by students of Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art via Twitch, and the evolving nature of theatre (yes with the "re") in the Pandemic Age.
