Enjoy this hopefully NOT stressful, holistic discussion about stress. As we both find ourselves in activating times in our lives (and we know we're not alone!), we thought it's time for an episode about stress. Not only discussing how it works physiologically, but some of our favourite naturopath-approved ways to release & ease stress, and support our nervous systems.

The Nuanced Naturopaths Podcast is a friendly conversation between two friends, us! Karinda and Julie. We’re passionate about finding the nuance in natural health. As degree-qualified naturopaths, we like to ask the questions that need to be asked - about all aspects of health, healing and well-being. We delight in questioning firmly held beliefs and finding the nuance in all subjects health-related and beyond. Sometimes it can get a little technical, but hopefully we explain things in a way that's accessible to anyone interested in natural health, whether you’re a practitioner or someone who wants to learn more and optimise your wellbeing. It’s a chat about poop, periods and everything in between - buckle up for a laugh, a cry and for some things you are yet to consider about your health! Stay nuanced!
A very casual ep, going over our unique and very different experiences wearing continuous glucose monitors (Freestyle Libre II). As always, we find ourselves exploring a few nitty-gritty rabbitholes within the overall topic of blood sugar. Enjoy, and ask your Qs below!

Laura Taylor, Naturopath and self-confessed science-nerd, dives into the nuance of decoding iron metabolism. What most health professionals are taught in their degrees does not generally reflect the latest understandings of iron markers and what they represent. Ahead of her upcoming webinar ‘The Iron Code’, Laura has dived down ALL the rabbit-holes, and uses her natural talent for explaining the complex in easily understood terms. Buckle in for a ride, and learn how to more accurately interpret what is going on with iron - it might challenge your understanding, but will almost certainly broaden it.

This episode marks our first outdoor recording experience, with nature sounds delightfully interrupting the conversation. We chat to nature sound recordist & author, Andrew Skeoch, about ‘deep listening to nature’ (also the title of his fabulous new book) and how to do it. We talk about how listening to the sounds around us can connect us with the landscape, calm our mind and body, and remind us that we are animals after all. This discussion took us in many directions we didn't anticipate, but were delighted to land in nonetheless. We thoroughly enjoyed Andrew's knowledge coming through as he identifies various bird's chirping in. We hope you enjoy this rich, nuanced conversation immersed in nature.

Why should we care about heart health in our 20s and 30s? What’s the difference between salt and sodium? How do we pick up on blood sugar problems early? And how do we know if we’re properly hydrated?
Mark's passion for health optimisation, longevity and cardiometabolic health is obvious in this episode & helps us answer these questions (plus much more).
He discusses why we should be motivated about heart health well before we ‘need to’, an easy all-round hydration protocol, and unpacks the nuance of insulin resistance. He talks about his current interest in the benefits of near-infrared saunas combined with low-pressure hypobaric therapy for increasing energy and improving cardiovascular health.
This jam-packed episode is a must-listen for all!

Julie was up at 2am diving deep into a research paper on this... so you know it's gonna be juicy. We talk about intestinal hyper-permeability (IHP), aka "leaky gut", your intestinal wall (that's only one cell thick!) and how your microbiome contributes the the amount of oxygen in your gut... and how this oxygen might be contributing to your digestive symptoms (IBS, SIBO, gas, bloating, reflux, etc).

Nothing beats an accidental mini episode that was originally meant to be an intro for another ep. But as you know, we like to talk... and things can drag out a bit. So we packaged up this sweet little chat about blood sugar for you to easily digest. Enjoy!

Listen to Ep 17 to get the low-down on dairy if you haven't already.
If you've tried a dairy elimination diet and found it didn't help your symptoms, it could be because of one of these foods lurking & wreaking havoc on your digestion & immunity.
Always read the label!
Dairy isn’t what it used to be, there was a time when we consumed it fresh from the cow, raw and unpasteurised. Have you wondered about lactose intolerance, A2 versus A1 milk, and why so many people seem to have an issue with dairy? This episode covers all of these topics and more!
