Samantha Crain has released 8 records, started touring at 19, eventually supporting artists such as The Avett Brothers, Neutral Milk Hotel, Brandi Carlile, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Gregory Alan Isakov, The Mountain Goats, and MANY others, as well as joining First Aid Kit for an appearance on 'Conan', and self-producing many of her own records, as well as records for other artists. We explore the power of asking questions, both as a way to learn more in craft and business and as a means of self-advocacy in business dealings, we talk about the positives and negatives of growing a substantial career in a non-music town (Norman, OK in her instance), the many benefits of a meditation practice, and much more in this wide-ranging conversation.

John Craigie is a singer-songwriter based out of Portland OR but who spent years living on the road, has released 12+ albums, and toured with the likes of Jack Johnson, Gregory Alan Isakov, Shawn Colvin, Sean Hayes and more. Craigie is known for his engaging live show that weaves a hefty dose of storytelling - in the vein of Arlo Gutherie - as well as comedy between his songs, so we send a lot of time talking about the art of storytelling and it's place in a concert, comedy, how he sustains such an intense tour schedule, drawing inspiration from communities of other artists such as painters and architects, debunking the optics fallacy and how finding the right venue for your show is much more powerful.

David Wax Museum is a critically-acclaimed indie folk band lead by husband/wife duo David Wax and Suz Slezak, who have been praised by NPR, Tiny Desk, the New York Times, Newport Folk, and even had a song featured at Pete Buttigieg's wedding. We talk about how they built and have grown a strong, enduring, grassroots community around their music that helps them remain independent, how and what they've learned about both creating and recharging together and separately as a couple, positive discoveries of the pandemic times that have reshaped their career, mental health and it's impact on their schedules, and creating entire artistic ecosystems.

Madame Gandhi is an incredibly diverse guest: she is an award winning producer, composer, and drummer for M.I.A., a member of Forbes' 30 Under 30, has given several TED talks, has an MBA from Harvard and a Masters in Music Science & Tech from Stanford, and famously ran the 2015 London Marathon while menstruating freely to combat menstrual stigma. We talk about how she tackles both self doubt and imposter syndrome in her many creative endeavors, her concept of optimizing for joy in our passions to foster sustainability, post-show rituals, and so much more.

Dylan LeBlanc has released records on Rough Trade Records, ATO, and Single Lock records, and has toured with Lucinda Williams, Bruce Springsteen, First Aid Kit and more. We talk about how having a big first record at a young age effected his headspace, career, and life, navigating many tough ups and downs since then, sobriety and intentions, and Michaela and Dylan discuss the (drastically different) reactions of each of their teams when they told them they were expecting their first children.

The Watson Twins have released multiple records, including their latest 'Holler' produced by Butch Walker, as well as being featured on Jenny Lewis' Rabbit Fur Coat and recording/touring with the likes of Kings of Leon, Foster the People, The Shins, Harry Connick Jr, Willie Nelson, and Jenny Lewis. We go deep on sustainable and enduring touring practices and logistics that they've both observed as sidewomen, and developed themselves as bandleaders, as well collaboration vs individualization and using your talents and skillsets developed in the music industry to launch other businesses (they own and run three event spaces in Nashville).
