I am so grateful to Dr Susan Thouin for sharing her story with the podcast this week! Susan, a Canadian palliative care physician, shares her experience of finding joy and connection through singing in a choir. She also shares from her experience of living and working with multiple sclerosis and recognizing the need for greater accessibility and support for healthcare humans experiencing chronic illness and disability. Many of us can think of grief as a heavy or tricky topic - which is why I am delighted for you to hear this conversation with Krista St-Germain, who works as a life coach for widowed moms. Krista shares her story of becoming a widowed mom at age 40, and how her personal journey has lead to a career addressing the myths and outdated ideas of grief. Her description of what post-traumatic growth can look like, including the ways to move beyond feeling "stuck" are relevant for you whether you have also lost a loved one, or are experiencing grief in the myriad of other ways it can show up in our lives.

In this episode, I had the joy of interviewing on of my favourite healthcare humans, Amy Allen, one of the nurse practitioners who help me take care of my patients! Amy opens up about her personal experiences with imposter syndrome and we examine the inhuman stories that exist about "NPs versus MDs" that exacerbate those imposter feelings for many. We share the different communication methods we have developed, such as weekly meetings and voice memos, that have been instrumental in building our strong working relationship.P.S. An episode talking about mediocrity in medicine AND Taylor Swift? Well YES! I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with Dr Frances Mei Hardin. As a practicing ENT surgeon, Frances Mei challenges the notion of excellence and redefines mediocrity as a survival trait worth practicing. We discuss the impact of fear and intimidation in healthcare and the need for a shift in the culture to prioritize well-being in service of patient (and clinician!) safety. And then at the end of our chat I couldn't resist bonding over our love for Taylor Swift and discuss the different eras of her music!!
