The Outdoors Show

Sometimes, Outdoors Show episodes come off without a hitch.  Take last week, for example: Dr. Quenton White comes in, and the episode is packed top to bottom, stem to stern, with information, insight and leaves every listener a better person for having listened.  Kind of like the Mona Lisa - a 100% masterpiece.

This is episode is more that painting of dogs playing poker.  But that doesn't mean it wasn't fun!

Yes, Capt. Kevin, Capt. Kirk and Jeff talked fishing and food plots and food (no surprise there), but things were pretty much going sideways right out of the shoot. Be warned...there are multiple Bumper Dumper sightings, including some detailed analysis of the Bumper Dumper Bucket variant, with all available accessories.  And the callers didn't help either - Gary tried his hand at out-Top Gunning Top Gun, which didn't work. Mitch followed up in rare form to point out Gary's missteps (just listen for the crickets).  Top Gun did eventually call in and dropped a good one on us again, and Lester put Bighead on the phone...who sounded more like "Bighead-ache" based on his shenanigans for his final night of leave.

A masterpiece? Heck no.  But hey - the OS faithful may not know much about art, but they know what they like.  And we're betting you'll like this episode, too!

All three captains - Kevin, Scott, and Ricky - were completely giddy about surf fishing this week, because it was going CRAZY!  Listen in to get all the information and the forecast, too.

Well, we’d say Capt. Kevin was doing some OSR (Outdoors Show Research), but he himself told us he “playing hookie,” so we’re not about to lie about it.  Although we’re sure he was having fun, he missed out on a fantastic show!

Dr. Quenton White joined Capt. Kirk and Jeff for this episode, and as is the case with every visit, he shared some tremendous information and insight into everything going on in First Coast Waters.  He also answered listener questions throughout the episode, covering an amazing scope of topics and issues: the Piney Point disaster, natural and artificial reefs and their fisheries, red snapper, barge mishaps, dredging and more.

For the record, Capt. Kevin also missed out on some great food – Dr. White’s venison casserole and Tera’s World Famous Zucchini Bread!

You don’t even have to ask – “exasperbaited” ain’t a word.  Ain’t ain’t a word neither, and we’re using that one, too.  Since “exasperated” means “to have made one extremely annoyed” or “have made one angered”, the definition to our new word, exasperbaited, means “to get extremely ticked off by the lack of bait offshore.”

Sure, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott may be P-Oed, but hey, the world got a new word out of it, so that’s something.

But the good news is that the temps keep rising, the water’s getting a bit better, and fish are getting caught inshore, on the beach, and offshore, too.  Want to know if the trend continues?  Check out this week’s forecast.

In Part 2 of the OS World Tour, the guys found themselves in Yulee at Tire Outlet for their Grand Opening Celebration!  It was quite a party, with special deals, delicious food, great fun, and unbelievable giveaways!

The guys were live from the Jacksonville Boat Show on this episode, except for Capt. Kirk, who was sporting his pom-poms and cheering on his soccer superstar granddaughter.  In a first, Boat Show organizers held it at a new location: Metro Park Marina downtown.  Lots of amazing boats, and lots of fun being outside for a change!

Friend of the show and all-around super-smart guy, Dr. Quenton White (who also happens to be Executive Director, Marine Science Research Institute and Professor of Biology and Marine Science at Jacksonville University) called in to talk about some local and national aquatic environmental issues.  Dr. White called these issues “catastrophic” – a word he doesn’t use liberally.  Listen in to get the details.

Erin Johnson, Administrative Director of the Jacksonville Marine Association, sat in with Capt. Kevin and Jeff to talk about the boat show, fishing the First Coast, and more.  She shared a lot of important info, however business picked up when she introduced us to a new term: “Charlie Foxtrot”.  Listen to get some clues about what that means…
