Ooooh boy, the captains are giddy.  After some downright crappy wind issues, things are finally turning around.  Specifically the wind sock is turning around, because it's beginning to blow southwest and west over the weekend.  Now that's typically good news, of course, but the truth is that it's ESPECIALLY good because the wind is going to be perfect for the Old School Kingfish Shootout -The Sequel.  Hope you're registered...because it's going to be a great one, and the guys tell you all about it this week!

In case you didn't know, summer is officially here.  It's hot outside, the wind and rain is coming and going, the water's warming up, and the fish are biting (well, most of the time, anyway).  With Jeff on OSR in Georgia once again, Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk talked it up with Fishing Forecast co-host Capt. Scott Shank.  Of course, the OS faithful checked in to spice things up as they always do!

Thanks for the Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week to OS fan, Fletcher! ‘I hear y’all talk about redfish on the half shell all the time and wanted to share how I do mine. I start the same way with redfish on the half shell. Start with slicing peppers and onions then sauté on the stove with butter. Add 2 cloves of diced garlic about 5 minutes before you pull off. On the fish, add blackening or Cajun seasoning then just a bit of parm cheese. Scoop sautéed onions and peppers on fish and add a few slices of butter to the top of the fish and cook over charcoal. This recipe will change your life!’

June has finally arrived...let summer fishing begin!  Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott got their game on, but the Great Bait Chase continued...this time for Capt. Ricky, who wound up going all the way down to Flagler to get some in his boat!  The guys got quite a chuckle out of that, but they all had stories to tell, including the usual suspects.  Get all the details, and get the latest forecast so you can plan your angling adventures for the next week!

Jeff was doing a little OSR up in Georgia this week, but being the trooper he is, he hung for the entire show anyway while Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk held things down in the studio.  The big talk this week, of course, is that the bait came on full-force all over the First Coast and the fishing was ON everywhere.

This went sideways when Rick called in to give a Vilano Ramp report, and wound up talking science.  Yeah, you read that right...things did NOT go well.  That was early - later, things went so far sideways, they came around the other side - all because of an innocent question from Chris about grill recommendations (NOTE: if you don't want to have an awkward conversation with the kiddos, you may want to skip that little part if they're around).

Later on in the show, the guys were joined by Chris Hall, outdoors columnist with the Times-Union and PR guy extraordinaire.  As luck would have it, one of his clients is Gill Rain Gear, probably THE BEST rain gear out there.  He talked about Gill, talked lots of fishing, and had a lot of fun with the guys.

Things really are heating up, and we're not just talking about the weather!  Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott and Capt. Leon (and everybody else, for that matter) have all been experiencing some increased activity in the waters offshore and inshore...and people are saying the surf fishing is coming on strong, too!  In this episode, the guys explore the reasons for the boom, and as they share the forecast, you can figure out if the boom will continue for the next week.

No, we're not trying to be dirty, rotten, filthy, stinky, rude, crude, course or common...the weather for the past several days has BLOWN.  The wind has been going and going, and it hasn't stopped.  It's been making everything difficult, and the guys talk all about it.  It kind of sounded like an episode of Hee-Haw for a minute ("Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me..."), but it was understandable; misery loves company, and when you get a bunch of charter captains hanging around...

Capt. Scott was out of the studio attending a Pre-K Graduation (yes, Pre-K Graduation), so he called in to talk with Capt. Kevin and Capt. Ricky about how things shaped up over the past week and how they were looking for the week ahead.  And they couldn't be more different - from the bait finally crashing the beach over the past several days and anglers pulling fantastic cobia and kingfish to a Nor'easter pummeling us and turning everything upside down.  But the most important question, as it is every week, is this: what's the forecast looking like, and will you be able to get back after those fish?  Listen in to find out.
