Health experts warn the latest outbreak of measles could once again make the virus endemic, if not enough is done to prevent its spread. There are now 30 cases of measles in the Canterbury region and 49 nationwide. In 2017 New Zealand was free of endemic measles, meanig any news cases were brought in from overseas. Michael Baker of the University of Otago explains how we ended up back in this position and what the answer is to combating the disease. Friday's Christchurch mosque shootings has seen the launch of activisim on several fronts. A petition calling for a ban of semi-automatic weapons is doing the rounds and there's a campaign to put a moratorium on gun shop advertising. At least one person has been fired for watching the video of the Christchurch mosque shootings, while others have been dismissed for sharing it with workmates. Cyber Research is a company which monitors internal computer use for around 50 workplaces and also says many of those companies monitored had three to five employees look up the video at work. Christchurch employment lawyer Kathryn Dalziel says there are proper processes to go through to fire someone.
