The Torah begins with the words “In the beginning, G-d created the heaven and the earth.” The Parsha then goes through what was created each day.

On the first day, G‑d created darkness and light. On the second day, He formed the heavens and earth. On the third day, He set the boundaries of land and sea and put trees on the earth. On the fourth day, He created the sun, moon, and stars. On the fifth day, He created fish, birds, and animals. On the sixth day, He created the first human being, Adam. On the seventh day, G‑d rested.

We find out why Hashem said, “let us create man”.

We learn how we are partners in creation with Hashem.

We are about to celebrate the Chag of Sukkos. It is a period of immense joy and happiness as we say many times over Sukkos, “Zman Simchaseinu- the time of our happiness”.

For we are commemorating the clouds of glory that accompanied the Jewish people throughout their journey in the desert.

We observe the Chag by eating, drinking, and spending as much time as possible in the Sukkah.

We also bind together the Arba minim, (four types of fruit), an Esrog (citron), a Lulav (palm branch), three Hadassim (myrtle twigs), and two Arovos (willow twigs). On each day except Shabbos, we make a brocha over them and shake them in each direction.

We learn how Sukkah is the embrace of Hashem.

Have a joyous and meaningful Sukkos!

    Chag Sameach!
