“If the moon attracts the tides, and we are 70% water, there must be a magnetic pull between us and the moon.” - Janelle Lara, 11:30
The moon is ever-present in our lives. It dictates our globe's tides, our moods, and aspects of our bodies as well. No one is more aware of this than women. It is an unavoidable part of being alive - so why not use the moon's influence to your best advantage?
Monika Mundell has shared her success story across multiple industries and continents, and she lives to help women understand the power of nature in their lives and their work, and to use it to serve others while leading a fulfilled, powerful life. Monika has found great value in observing the phases of the moon. When we are aware of the effects the different phases may be having on us, we can be empowered to use them to our advantage.
“We should be intentionally tuning in with nature on a daily basis.” Monika Mundell (8:30)
New Moon/Dark Phase -
This phase corresponds to winter and the north. It is the point at which women find themselves tempted to snuggle in and stay dormant. However, it's actually a great time to look back and embrace past lessons and work to renew and implement positive changes. Releasing the old and reconciling with the death of unproductive tendencies or relationships is a big part of the process.
Waxing Crescent Moon - Time to innovate with intent. Vision boards, journaling and strategizing belong in this phase. This is the time for expansion. As it corresponds with Spring, the waxing crescent moon is for re-awakening your creativity and incubating your ideas.
Full Moon - This phase corresponds to the South and summer. This is the time to bring your ideas to life and gather momentum. Your connections with others become effortless, and so it is a great time to network and meet new people. It is also an important time to celebrate your femininity and care for yourself, even as you connect to the masculine parts of your personality.
Waning Gibbous Moon - This phase is the harvest portion of the cycle and the manifestation of your power. Most women who align their business to the moon cycle find that they get most of their clients and make a lot of sales in this phase. You may be overwhelmed by negative self-talk here as you come down from the massively successful parts of the phase. Rather than panicking and trying to fix it, power down and get introspective. This is also a great time to set some healthy boundaries in self, relationships, and business.
“If we’re not paying attention to ourselves, how can we be of service to others?”
- Monika Mundell (29:12)
Although these phases differ, in each one, self-care should be given great priority. Entrepreneurship brings complicated feelings to a lot of women involving their roles as a caretaker. While it can feel selfish, caring for ourselves not only helps us be better service providers but also allows us to be present in every part of our lives.
Ultimately, when women align themselves with the moon cycles, they cultivate a healthy balance between masculine and feminine, caring for self and others, and the large shifts between high energy and low. It's the best method for bringing natural harmony to every piece of our existence.

“Transforming your business model, you may find that you don’t need as many automations as you thought.” - Janelle
Systems are the answer - or so the marketplace says. Having a fully-automated business with a system for everything is the current fad, and people are obsessed.
There’s nothing wrong with systems, of course. But their prevalence comes with two big problems. First of all, the idea of an automated business encourages entrepreneurs who don’t really like people to go into business. If you don’t like people, you should not be an entrepreneur in the first place. You will likely do better partnering with one. Also, if you’re sick of your business model, it’s probably not a systems issue. It may be time to take a close look at the model itself to see what needs to be fixed.
”Decide on a business model that you love, and a way to serve your clients that works for you and them, then you can start automating that process.” - Janelle
Systems won’t make you love a business you hate. In fact, rather than simplifying the work you do, an abundance of automation can overcomplicate things for you and the people you serve.
Take a look at the systems you have in place now and figure out what is really necessary, and then trim away the extra. The fact is, if you don’t love the business model you’re using, you can not serve your clients effectively.
“There’s no use in automating something that you hate.” - Janelle
The best place to start, when reworking your business model is to look at your client acquisition. Client acquisition models typically come in one of five structures.
Large short-term and long-term contracts are often the solution for overwhelmed, over-automated service providers. They allow the entrepreneur the security of a substantial fee, and lay the groundwork for developing trust and consistent, ongoing service.
As you consider the ways in which you might re-configure your business model, make sure your choice fits in with your industry, your own income goals, and the needs of your client. Unfortunately, taking on a lot of small clients is the default, and entrepreneurs get burned out trying to acquire clients and serve them all well.
The right business model for you is the one that allows you to serve your clients effectively, getting your client the results they need and helping you craft the schedule you want.

“Creatives and solo-preneurs can turn on a dime. We are able to bulldoze big companies because we can innovate so quickly.”
The business world is changing. Where once the formula for success started with college and ended with a 40-year corporate career, we’re now seeing a shift towards creativity, fast innovation, and the risk-willing work ethic of the entrepreneur.
Anna Grymes is the master of both dynamics, having successfully navigated the corporate world while still maintaining a creative spirit. Anna’s passion is connecting creative freelancers who are corporate clueless but would benefit from the big contracts provided through corporations. She also works with corporations who wish to implement innovation and stay ahead of the curve.
”Creativity is bred in disruption.” - Anna Grymes
Years ago, the economy was dominated by big businesses with plans, budgets, and 10-year strategies. Now, smaller, scrappier companies, like Uber and Airbnb, have come up from behind and introduced affordable, accessible services based on social media mastery and the modern willingness of most people to step into a stranger’s car or sleep in their home.
Entrepreneurs frequently feel lost in this new landscape. Most freelancers and business owners working for themselves are blessed with creative minds but no experience climbing the corporate ladder. Unfortunately, most of these solo-preneurs also need high-paying clients.
“What corporations are painfully realizing is that they can’t take 2 years to implement a marketing strategy. The really scrappy companies that are coming up behind these hundred-year-old corporations have no problem saying, ‘We’re super-versatile and we’ll throw our strategy in the trash and start again in a day’s time’.” - Anna Grymes
If you are a freelance writer, looking for a way to access big contracts, Anna Grymes can help. She is master at bridging the gap between freelancer and corporation, offering instruction in resume-writing and general presentation, as well as navigating the environment. This allows creative minds the security and exposure of working with a large company, without feeling boxed-in or stifled. It also grants the companies in question access to faster innovation and a fresh, outside perspective.
Listen in to the episode to hear more about disrupting the industry, conquering fear of the unknown, and working with the quirks of a creative brain. As a creative, it could seem overwhelming to break into the corporate industry. However, take a moment to imagine the impact your success could have on the world around you.

“You teach people how to treat you. The default is not always going to be good, and you need to express yourself when it’s not.” - Janelle Lara
Some of the most valuable, peaceful people on the planet are those who dedicate themselves to uplifting others, helping them improve, and helping them reach their goals. Samantha Hartley of Enlightened Marketing is a prime example. Samantha works primarily with female consultants who are under-earning relative to their potential and cannot see a path forward to reaching that potential. She puts an emphasis on transformational work through high-ticket offers that allow her clients to pour themselves fully into a few projects while reducing financial stress.
”A lot of what I’m doing is to put people in a joyful state. And I don’t think that you can be joyful when you have money fear and stress. So the way to get rid of that is to structure your business to alleviate that money fear and stress. Once you’re in that state, you can feel your genius. ” - Samantha Hartley
There is an invisible barrier that exists at $100,000 per year, specifically for women. Often, women suppress their power, preferring to be humble, and this can lead to them undervaluing themselves financially. Women’s business groups tend to nurture more than they challenge, whereas Samantha works with her clients to realize the value they provide and empower them that way.
She’s the perfect person to do it. A Southerner with a colorful background, including degrees in Theatre and Russian Language, Samantha made her way in the world, geographically and through the Coca-Cola Company, with confidence and the constant rhetoric of “I can do that,” no matter the job at hand. Having worked in a corporate environment and seen the differences among office life, fieldwork, and self-employment, Samantha knows that there are no “new” marketing tactics. Everything is a reinvention of standard, lasting principles:
“Be surrounded by people who advocate for you. Surround yourself with people who are supportive. We don’t need negativity in our lives.” - Samantha Hartley
It is important for women to talk about what it means to be a woman with good ideas and contribution, and how often female voices get buried or women doubt the value of their opinions and ideas. Samantha has a go-to formula for when clients are in need: Call out your client specifically and address their problem or pain points with specific language. For Samantha, this means, ‘Female consultants who are under-earning relative to their potential and are already working too hard, but would like to grow and don’t see how they can.’
