The Kid Who Would Be King Podcast Review

The Kid Who Would Be King debuted in January 2019 and didn't exactly make waves at the box office; fortunately it's now available on DVD. After co-writing The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and then taking the MCU for a spin on Ant-Man, Joe Cornish has hopped back into the director's chair to take a crack at the King Arthur mythos. Following his impressive feature debut with the "Chav-Fi" audience-pleaser Attack the Block, this new film is a fresh take on the 'Boys Own Adventure' genre; a distinct change of pace for Cornish. The titular kid is Louis Ashbourne Serkis (Andy Serkis' son), and Patrick Stewart features in a special role.

Dion and Quinny must find out whether they have the strength to pull this film from the stone... or should they toss it back into the lake until it's needed again?

Pokémon is a worldwide phenomenon that has captured the hearts and minds of children and adults alike since it first appeared in the '90s. It has spawned innumerable games, toys, TV shows and animated features, now finding itself exploding into the realm of the live-action movie in an adaptation of one of the most unlikely parts of the property!

Join Dion, Ardella and Breathless_ness as they find out if this movie can catch them all, or should we all be prepared for trouble, and make it double..?!

What We Do in the Shadows TV Podcast Review

What We Do in the Shadows was a sleeper hit in 2014, with it's off the wall mockumentary view of vampires that weren't quite as cool as the ones written by Anne Rice or Stephenie Meyer. Translating television shows between countries is always fraught with peril (see Red Dwarf and Kath and Kim), but this time it's not just a straight TV adaptation, it's adapting a movie into a TV show to another country. Everything about this screams "FAILURE", but thanks to the same creatives at the helm, What We Do in the Shadows the TV series give us the same bite, just from a different menu.

Dion and Quinny have a look at the first half of Season 1 of the American TV show. Let us know whether you think it should be staked through the heart, or has it hypnotized you into eternal servitude.

Avengers: Endgame Spoiler Podcast Review

Delivering an elegant conclusion to a cinematic saga spanning 11 years and 22 films is no easy task. Is it possible that the folks behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe have somehow managed to stick the landing and create a fitting capstone to this first-of-its-kind screen experiment?

LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS is an 18-episode animated anthology series on Netflix. Produced by David Fight Club Fincher, along with Joshua Donen, Jennifer Miller and VFX-maven Tim Miller, each episode was animated by different crews from a range of countries. The series is a re-imagining of Fincher and Miller's planned reboot of the 1970s - 80s Heavy Metal magazine franchise (which languishes even now in Development Purgatory; the rights are currently possessed by Robert Rodriguez). 

We take a look at the whole Netflix shebang with comedian & satirist Jazz Twemlow and regular presenter Jill / Breathless_ness discussing everything from what an anthology is to whether androids want to kill electric sheep.

Twilight Zone 2019 Podcast Review

The fourth iteration of a show with the same moniker, Jordan Peele is helming what is hoped to be quality Kafka-esque entertainment. Not quite the dark futurism of Black Mirror, but hopefully more thought provoking than Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Will this new Twilight Zone take our hosts (and resident Professors of Twilightology) Jill and Dion on a life-altering adventure, or is it a one-way door to the Negative Zone?

SHAZAM! Spoiler Free Podcast Review

Shazam! is the latest DC comic book hero to be given the live action treatment and he's here to have a good time. Dion and Jill went to see this romp of a film, and are joined by Quinny in an entirely impartial and equally unenlightened capacity.

D.C. has been pretty hit-and-miss with it's cinematic adaptations, but hopefully this will be an opportunity for either a fresh start or a new and different take on the existing universe.

Podcast Interview Emily K Smith Artist

Dion may be away but Quinny is joined by the astonishing Western Australian comic artist and all-round wonder-nerd extraordinaire Emily K Smith! They talk about breaking into comics, Art, Theatre, LGBTIQA issues, Nuns, Wimples and a whole lot about Dungeons and Dragons! Like…seriously a LOT.

Emily has worked with some of the biggest names in Australian comics and has been a mainstay of Gestalt Comics since she started working with them in her early 20's. Her work on Unmasked and the Cleverman tie-in comics is much loved and well regarded by her peers and fans alike.

It's been a tense time for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since last years last entry into the series of Ant Man and the Wasp. We are all still stuck in the limbo between the end of Avengers: Infinity War and the resolution of this years Avengers: Endgame. As far as we know, The Mad Titan, Thanos has won and half the population of the universe is still gone! So, lets ignore all of that and take a nostalgic step back into that most magical of decades: The '90s!  Dion and Quinny get in touch with their grunge-loving, head-banging younger selves for this nostalgic buddy-cop romp of a review.

Netflix may have lost its Marvel series, but it's not bowing out of superhero production all together! My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way paired up with awesome artist Gabriel Bá to create this weird and wonderful take on the teen superhero team story. This isn't the X-Men, or the Teen Titans, this is something… darker and far, far stranger!
