Late Nights at Blockbuster

Saving Private Ryan

This week we are heading back to 1998 and one of the greatest rip-off in the history of the Oscars. We’re talking about Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks and way more people than you remember being in this movie that you actually know. We enjoy placing all the members of that great cast into their proper places amongst our categories and have one of the least funny Drax award sessions of all time.

Our newest Late Nights at Blockbuster is celebrating the 10th anniversary of THE Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Xavier joins us for the whole episode this time to get the teen audience perspective. Troy quickly forgets the move title in the intro but we were able to get things back on track. We left the best for last with an interesting discussion during, "Whose movie is it?"

Our newest episode is a Late Nights at Blockbuster on Enemy of the State. While this was a very successful movie as far as box office, it didn’t really stay in the public conscious. TMNT III and 2001: A Space Odyssey catch some strays in the middle of this pod. As he always does, Byers brings a Friends guest star into Recognize My Face. We also discuss how Anna Gunn can’t escape being cast in unlikeable roles.

We've hit the quarter mark of the season (sort of) and so we are updating our tiers, giving you all the changes to our rankings and talking about a few surprises from the season so far, some good....some not so good.

Our newest episode is another entry into our series called Better than Perfect on the TV sitcom Scrubs. Byers and Troy have their first ever duet on a classic early 2000s radio staple. We have plenty of Rowdy the stuffed dog, Troy gets to mention the show Love Monkey again, and Byers leads off a quote with “I don’t even know what this is in reference to” and that is the theme for all great Scrubs quotes. We were trying to balance out our dive into this show so we started going a little lightning round and didn’t set up some of the discussion. We did this so it wouldn't be a 3 hour podcast, but we think that you’ll still be able to follow along without us getting bogged down.

Armageddon

Who doesn’t love a story about oil drillers becoming astronauts? So come suspend some reality and enjoy the ride with us as we talk through this late 90s classic. We have plenty of favorite quotes, lots of quibbles and even somehow managed to out Michael Bay as a possible flat- earther.

It’s time for our annual NFL preview. We provide our records for each team, place them in our tiers that we’ll be using for the rest of the year, and predict award and Super Bowl winners. We agreed on a lot of teams and their records but disagreed the most on the Rams. Troy promised that he wouldn’t go in depth on the Texans and then couldn’t help himself and did it anyway. We end with some Jonathan Taylor trade talk as that was the biggest story at the time of recording. Byers says, “Some day the Kelce wheels are going to fall off,” when referring to the Chiefs and projecting them to win the AFC West again. A week later he gets injured at practice…

Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix

We’re back in the wizarding world for the 5th installment in the series. Surprisingly we both feel very differently about this movie – for one it's their favorite, and the other one its their least favorite, but we still find plenty of common ground because who doesn’t enjoy Luna Lovegood? I mean we’re all just as perfectly sane as she is, right?
