Zach Wilson made waves in the off-season when a story came out about a sexual encounter with an older woman. Backup Steelers players are making jokes about it. Poni said the Steelers cannot lose to Wilson if they are going to see him as such a joke.

He said the alternate location is Minnesota if the league determines the conditions in Tampa Bay are unsafe. Mike said it’s more challenging for NBC to get the production ready in a different place than the teams being ready to play in a different place. Mike’s gut feeling is that the QB decision is on Mike Tomlin and that Art Rooney II hasn’t stepped in yet to call for Kenny Pickett. He said a lot of people in the building are ready to turn to the rookie in place of Mitch Trubisky. He said Trubisky’s performance on Thursday saved him another week as the team’s starter. Mike said if Tomlin waits to long to move to Pickett, it will be a hard move to explain, but his job will not be in risk. Mike said if receivers believe they’re open then plays are working, it falls on the quarterback, not the offensive coordinator. Mike said the worst thing Tomlin could’ve shared is that he didn’t hear the chants for Pickett at the first home game. He thinks it could reach a point where Tomlin can’t avoid what the fans are calling for. “If it’s not going well against the Jets, then it’s Kenny Pickett time and it’s baptism by blast furnace against the Bills, Bucs, Dolphins and Eagles.” Mike said week 9 is the magic number if it doesn’t happen this weekend.

The Steelers inch closer to their must-win game on Sunday afternoon. Mitch Trubisky has now talked up the coaches and has blamed other players and himself for the poor offensive performance. Poni posed a question – would you rather have Mason Rudolph or Trubisky at QB if Mike Tomlin is so against playing Kenny Pickett?

KDKA Meteorologist Mary Ours joined the show. With Hurricane Ian set to hit land in Florida, Mary gives the perspective of how it impacts lives and even sports in that area. Mary talked about how much stronger it is than any storm we ever get in Pittsburgh. Chris asked about the Tampa Bay-Kansas City game set to be played in Tampa on Sunday night – she said the game could still be played there because the storm should be moving on at that point, but the damage done will likely be substantial. Mary said the worst-case scenario around here will just be a lot of rain in certain areas, but things can change depending on the direction of the storm. She said it could potentially impact the Steelers-Jets game Sunday.
