Former NFL GM Doug Whaley joined The Fan Morning Show today and had some great takes on Matt Canada and the Steelers offense. He said if there is a mutiny in the locker room there could be a change before the season is over – saying it’s harder to find a Diontae Johnson, Kenny Pickett, George Pickens, etc. than it is to find an offensive coordinator like Canada. The guys loved Doug suggesting and calling for change before it’s too late, but Poni doesn’t expect Omar Khan to stand up to Mike Tomlin and set things straight.
Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike said he doesn’t think Matt Canada will get fired, but he doesn’t rule out Art Rooney II doing the job mid-season. He talked about what is coming up with the Steelers schedule, saying this team has to try to make it to the bye week with a hellish October ahead. Chris asked how attractive the Steelers offensive coordinator job would be to coaches around the league if Canada is let go after the year. Mike said the Steelers have to follow their formula for now even if it isn’t easy to do right now. Mike said the Steelers actually do have a problem with attendance and local viewership, so forcing the move to Kenny Pickett could happen sooner rather than later.
