93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff had thoughts from the Mike Tomlin press conference today going over the win in Cincinnati and the injuries to TJ Watt and Najee Harris. Jeff referenced when Cam Heyward had a pec injury a few years ago. Chris asked Jeff how Tomlin seems to feel about Jaylen Warren and if he can carry his weight in the Steelers offense.

ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi Kinkhabwala – Aditi joined the guys to talk about the Steelers win over the Bengals yesterday and the other stories out of the AFC North. She said the TJ Watt injury could take down the Steelers season, but there are other big-time players on that defense. She got into the Najee Harris injury and talked about what the team should do if he’s out for a few weeks. Aditi talked about how the Steelers offensive line and run game will need to be more aggressive and physical to match the rest of the division – citing what the Browns were able to do successfully yesterday. Aditi said she exchanged texts with someone connected to the Bengals complaining about some coaching decisions. Aditi thinks Mitch Trubisky was smart and made good decisions in the win and the blame should be pointed to the offensive line. She talked about week one being a big learning curve and it’s not always a telltale sign on what is to come for the whole season. 

There are reports that Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys have a list of every available quarterback in the league. Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be at the top of the list. Where is Mason Rudolph? And should Dallas consider a retired QB like Phillip Rivers or…Ben Roethlisberger? Jay Glazer reported yesterday that we won’t see Kenny Pickett all season – do you believe that? Zac Taylor was majorly outcoached by Mike Tomlin yesterday. The guys can’t believe Taylor didn’t challenge the touchdown/non-touchdown scored by Ja’Marr Chase.

Audacy NFL insider Brian Baldinger joined the show. The guys asked Brian about what he saw yesterday in the Steelers victory. He gave his thoughts on TJ Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick being truly game-changing players. He was not happy with what he saw from the offense and Najee Harris looked “terrible.” Brian said Jaylen Warren looked better in most aspects than Najee did because there is clearly something slowing him up. Brian was surprised how little the Steelers used George Pickens and their inability to get him the football. He said the offense came out trying to be cute and the defense just came out and dominated. 

Steelers 23, Bengals 20 – The Steelers pull off a stunner in Cincy. Did the Steelers win the battle, but lose the war? A whirlwind victory against the defending AFC champions. However, injuries to TJ Watt and Najee Harris. What is their status or best-case scenario? If Harris is not 100% for week two, Chris called for Jaylen Warren to be the team’s starting RB against New England. With the schedule not being a gauntlet in weeks 2-4, Chris is OK with Najee sitting in all three of those games.

Ray talked about the struggles in the run game and what the offense looked like as a whole. Chris asked Ray if he puts that blame on Mitch Trubisky or Matt Canada – he thinks the team will be conservative on offense in hopes of a great defensive performance every week. Poni asked why George Pickens had such a little impact and if he was open downfield as much as it seemed. Ray said the Bengals were clearly daring the Steelers to go deep, but Pickens was underutilized.

Color commentator for the NFL on CBS, Charles Davis joined the show. Charles is excited to call the game with the NFL on CBS on Sunday and said the Steelers are starting the right guy at quarterback. He said Mitch Trubisky stood up to the test in the preseason and we’ll see how that translates to the regular season. He talked about what Trubisky has gone through since his departure from Chicago and why the year in Buffalo helped him even though he was a backup. Charles doesn’t think we see Kenny Pickett on Sunday unless an injury occurs or the game is completely out of hand. He thinks it’s important for Mike Tomlin to stick with Mitch under almost all circumstances. The guys asked Charles if the Steelers have any shot of pulling another week one upset like last year in Buffalo – he said last year was an example of how underrated Ben Roethlisberger was at times.
