PFF's Steve Palazzolo joins the show to ease Chris' fears about the Steelers offensive line and provide his take on the team's current quarterback depth chart.

Chris found Steelers win total odds set at 7.5 for the 2022 season. Chris is taking the over, as he believes Mike Tomlin's coaching and the defense will be enough to put the team in a position to compete for a playoff spot.

While everyone is excited to see the quarterbacks on Saturday, Chris is most looking forward to seeing this new look offensive line in action for the first time.

Chris is the only regular member of the show left standing today, and kicks things off discussing Mike Tomlin naming Mitch Trubisky as the Steelers' starter for the preseason opener against the Seahawks on Saturday. Chris believes we need to see more of Trubisky than we would normally see a starter in the preseason given how he has struggled thus far in camp. Cale wants to see more of Kenny Pickett considering how he has ascended throughout camp.

Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. The guys asked Greg about the Rodolfo Castro cell phone incident. Greg talked about some weird oddities that he has seen in his career. Greg expects Derek Shelton wasn’t exactly thrilled by the whole thing. Greg got into some players that he’s not sure will be on the major league roster in 2023. The guys got into the Pirates inaugural Hall of Fame class, which left out Barry Bonds. Greg isn’t surprised Bonds didn’t get in initially, but expects him to be in eventually. 

NFL insider Hub Arkush of Pro Football Weekly joined the show. Hub gave insight on Roquan Smith and isn’t sure where he will end up, but he described Pittsburgh as a “good fit” in their system. The guys asked about the complications with Smith since he does not have an agent. Hub said Smith is a better player than Ryan Shazier was at his best and he’s among the most underrated players in the league. He thinks a 1 and a 3 or maybe a 1 and a 4 could go a big way in getting a deal done. Hub said the asking price might be over $100 million with around $55 million guaranteed, but he isn’t sure if he will get quite that. The chat then shifted to Mitch Trubisky, who Hub still believes can do something in this league as he showed in his second season. A former Bear that Hub really likes is James Daniels, who he expects to do great things with Pittsburgh and he’s upset Chicago didn’t have interest in bringing him back. He described Daniels as a steal for what they paid in free agency, but a big surprise to the guys – Hub said Daniels is best at center. 

Former Steelers QB/WR Kordell “SLASH” Stewart joined the show. Kordell talked about how the game has changed since his day and how well he would fit into today’s game since he was clearly ahead of his time. He talked about the difficulties that came with going from WR to QB and back again, and how his spot never felt completely secure no matter how well he played. He said he’s not upset that he missed out on huge NFL money since he came around 25+ years ago and said his NFL time was a lot of fun. The guys asked him about QBs like Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray in today’s game. He said he definitely had tough times in the league, but when times were good, he was great. His time in Pittsburgh was his favorite and his “Slash” era was a great memory. Kordell gave his thoughts on the Steelers current QB situation with Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett. He talked about the career of Ben Roethlisberger. The guys asked Kordell what he’s up to now as he dives into the sports media business.

NFL insider Mike Sando of The Athletic joined the show. One of Mike’s big projects every year is a tier-ranking list of every NFL QB. Down low on that list? Mitch Trubisky. He gave his reasons and thinks he can be a bridge QB, but won’t ever take a team to the promised land on his own. He said not many teams in the league, if any, view Trubisky as a true starter – he reiterated that he’s a good bridge to a team’s next franchise QB. He broke down his QB tiers and some of the names he has around Trubisky. He excluded rookie QBs from his tier list, so that explained the absence of Kenny Pickett. Poni asked Mike if Mason Rudolph has any value and if he could end up being traded.
