Former Steelers offensive coordinator Chan Gailey joined the show. Chan talked about the challenges that come with trying to work a 3-man race for starting quarterback. Chan got into how many reps each QB gets in a true competition and how difficult that is to pull off. He likes the strategy of splitting the day up for the three guys, instead of giving each QB his individual day. Chris asked Chan if the veterans on offense should have input on which QB they like the most. He said depending on the veteran, it definitely carries weight into the discussion. Chan talked about late-night discussions he had with Bill Cowher regarding the starting quarterback position. He said there’s not a cookie cutter way to treat rookie QBs because everyone is different, but if a guy can sit for a year that is best for their future. On being a QB today, Chan said it’s easier today in regards to taking hits in the pocket thanks to player safety, but everything else is harder. Chris asked about how Kordell Stewart would fit into today’s NFL.
