Chris Simms has Kenny Pickett ranked 39th among quarterbacks in the NFL. Along with that, he does not have Mitch Trubisky ranked. The guys debated if Kenny is already the best QB on the roster. The guys went through some of the QBs ranked ahead of Kenny, including Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills, Gardner Minshew and Teddy Bridgewater. Some of the bigger insults were Sam Darnold and Geno Smith both being ranked higher.  

Steve Palazzolo from Pro Football Focus joined the show. Steve defended PFF’s ranking of Najee Harris outside of the Top 10, but said if he made the list, he would have Harris in the Top 10 and maybe the Top 5. Steve said he would take the career of Aaron Rodgers over the career of Ben Roethlisberger without much hesitation. Steve talked about how Big Ben held back the Steelers offense last year. With Stephon Tuitt in question, Steve said Tuitt is a “very good player – not as good as Cam Heyward, but a very good player.” He said aging corners like Joe Haden may have trouble finding a home. Steve ranked Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky – saying both would be in the 35-40 range. Steve said for the Steelers case, whenever it’s time to go to Pickett, the Steelers should make the move.

Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg loved the idea of the Jim Leyland Cup for when the Pirates play the Tigers. Greg talked about how fun the team is and brought up a fair point – Bryan Reynolds hasn’t even started clicking yet. He said the young guys on the horizon have given this team a spark. Greg talked about what went behind the Rodolfo Castro send down, which led to the Travis Swaggerty call up. Greg said Castro will bounce back, but he gave a lot of credit to Derek Shelton for how he handled the situation.

The Browns have “excused” Baker Mayfield from mandatory minicamp. How long until they “excuse” Deshaun Watson too?

He said there is a distinction between Teryl Austin and Brian Flores on the coaching staff. He said there’s not yelling with Flores, but it is “drill sergeant-esque” with the players. He said Minkah Fitzpatrick is at practice and going through drills, but couldn’t say much more. He said Diontae Johnson could hold-in or hold-out, but it has been done in the past by Hines Ward.
