Aditi talked about how the QB breakdown is after the first day of mandatory minicamp. She mentioned Mason Rudolph possibly getting a shot elsewhere. Aditi told a story about her husband getting out of household chores.

Aditi Kinkhabwala joined the guys in-studio. Aditi talked about what she heard today at Steelers mandatory minicamp. She talked about the wide receivers, mentioning George Pickens lacking some development, per Mike Tomlin, but saying he’s looked impressive in moments. Poni questioned when Minkah Fitzpatrick will get a new contract and what that means for Diontae Johnson.

The guys debated if Diontae Johnson is a top 30 receiver – Chris went through guys around the league right now he would put ahead of Johnson. Najee Harris spoke to the media today and got mad about the weight comments, even though nobody said he was “fat.” The guys talked about the offensive line issues last season and questioned moves like Kendrick Green at center and Chuks Okorafor getting paid. Najee said he won’t be on the field quite as much as last year to take away some hits on his body. Poni defended Najee’s “fat” comment. 

The Steelers Mike Sullivan talked to the media and gave his insight on the QB battle. The guys broke it down and debated how much they can take from it.

Of course, this will likely change by the start of the season, but the guys discussed how much weight to put into what Canada is saying this early in the QB battle. 

The Pirates start a series with the Tigers tonight and Donny is hoping there is some ‘swag’ added to the lineup. The guys are really pushing for the Leyland Cup.

Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg loved the idea of the Jim Leyland Cup for when the Pirates play the Tigers. Greg talked about how fun the team is and brought up a fair point – Bryan Reynolds hasn’t even started clicking yet. He said the young guys on the horizon have given this team a spark. Greg talked about what went behind the Rodolfo Castro send down, which led to the Travis Swaggerty call up. Greg said Castro will bounce back, but he gave a lot of credit to Derek Shelton for how he handled the situation.

PFF said Mike Tomlin is not a Top 10 NFL head coach. They have Bill Belichick, Andy Reid and Jon Harbaugh in the number one tier, but oddly have Kliff Kingsbury and Pete Carroll in the four and five spots. Sean McVay, who has already won a Super Bowl and been to another, is at 11. Tomlin finally checks in at 13.  

Former Steeler Edmund Nelson joined the show. Edmund talked about hating minicamp and why it was so much worse for players than it is today, so bad he used the term “miserable.” The guys asked Edmund how the team can replace Stephon Tuitt and he said they can’t replace him. He said how DeMarvin Leal can be a factor once they figure out what size they want him at. Edmund said talent always wins out over coaching. Edmund commented on Devin Bush, after Merril Hoge crushed him Friday afternoon. Edmund said he’s staying optimistic about Bush, holding out hope that he bounces back in a big way. He said Bush should have responsibilities, like play calling, thrown on him to show he can still be the man in the middle of the Steelers defense. By the way, he said his love for ribs is completely genuine.
