Should the Steelers pay Diontae Johnson?

We broke down Calvin Austin audio after the WR talked to the media after today’s OTA session. We also heard from Terrell Edmunds, who talked to the media for the first time since re-signing in Pittsburgh. 

Steelers insider Brian Batko joined the show. Brian talked about where the QB depth chart is right now and why we shouldn’t read too much into it. Brian said Kenny Pickett will make his biggest impact in a game-like setting. He wasn’t too surprised seeing Diontae Johnson at OTAs because of an Instagram post he saw over the weekend. He said Johnson will get paid based on what he’s currently doing, not what he’s done in the past. Brian doesn’t see Johnson as an upper echelon player at his position and expects the Steelers to focus on Minkah Fitzpatrick. Brian talked about Najee Harris’ physique, but also talked about another Steeler who has put on some good weight. Brian gave his thoughts on Terrell Edmunds sounding very confident in his starting spot.

Harris had 4.4 yards per touch last year – he’d like to see that number go up with fewer damage done to the body, no matter how impressive he looks. Donny wants the Steelers to add a veteran, change of pace runner to the room because it appears Benny Snell and Anthony McFarland don’t fit the billing.

He discussed if he thinks the Steelers will shoot for an extension with the wide receiver. He again commented on how good Najee Harris looks, with the news that he weighs 244 pounds. He said he looks like a varsity player on the JV squad. He thinks Najee creates a lot of interesting personnel possibilities for the Steelers next season. He mentioned the QB depth chart right now, which has Kenny Pickett as QB3. Josh got into how Cam Heyward will lead this team to the future.
