93.7 The Fan analyst Doug Whaley has a second interview this week for the Steelers. The guys discussed if the new GM should have the same view as Mike Tomin and Art Rooney when it comes to Kenny Pickett. Doug made comments on The Morning Show before the draft that every QB in this year’s class would have been at the level of Kyle Trask last year. Doug said he would have taken a corner back 20th overall, like Trent McDuffie or Kyler Gordon.

Pens-Rangers Game 4 set for tonight at PPG Paints Arena. The guys discussed the Game 3 win on Saturday night that put the Pens up 2-1 in the series. Louis Domingue will be back in the net tonight and the guys debated if it is Domingue’s spot to lose even if a healthy Tristan Jarry gets cleared to return. The guys think a win tonight should keep Domingue in net until at least the end of this series and he shouldn’t get benched until there’s a reason for it. Poni said if Mike Sullivan goes to Jarry and the season crashes to a finish he should be fired. 

93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff gave the latest from the Penguins ahead of Game 4 tonight. Jeff agreed with the guys and doesn’t think Louis Domingue should lose his net to Tristan Jarry if he continues to play well. Jeff said with Jarry, it’s not that the team won’t be confident in his ability, but if he has seen enough action in practice leading up to a real game. Jeff had concern for Brian Dumoulin, who still hasn’t hit the ice since injury. He said Mike Matheson has been better in this series than what we saw in Game 2. Poni thinks Brian Boyle should be out of the lineup, but a potential replacement like Drew O’Connor didn’t participate in line rushes during practice. Jeff updated his series prediction and showed interest in joining the guys in New York if the series goes to Game 7. 

HOCKEY TALK! Poni is going to the game tonight. Chris loved Mike Tomlin’s hat and jersey combo for Game 3. The guys argued if Penguins fans are more dog or cat people.

CBS NFL Draft analyst Ryan Wilson joined the show. Ryan gave his full review of the Steelers draft, with a lot of love for the picks in rounds three and four. He said DeMarvin Leal and Calvin Austin may be two of the biggest steals in the draft. He predicted at least two of the draftees start right away with more coming along. Chris asked how the Steelers did in relation to the rest of the AFC North.

Former Steelers QB, turned PFF analyst Bruce Gradkowski joined the show. Bruce talked about the Steelers QB competition between Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. He said it’s a long process, but the guys have to take advantage of their reps. Chris asked if Rudolph’s time with the organization plays a factor in how many reps he gets in practice. Bruce said Pickett, as a rookie, has to blow the Steelers away to win the job over Trubisky and/or Rudolph going into the season. Bruce talked about what kind of situations the quarterbacks will be put through. He gave the perspective of what players (other than the other QBs) feel like when a team drafts a first round quarterback. He referenced personal experiences as a QB that had rookie QBs come in under him. Bruce predicted Trubisky as the Steelers starter in week one.

Neither feels like the series is over after the loss and still have some confidence in Louis Domingue in the net. They’re both worried about the lines beyond the first line being productive.

The greatest Steelers beat writer of all time, Ed Bouchette, joined the guys for his final *weekly* visit. Ed said Kenny Pickett was a great pick by the Steelers. Ed talked about what he plans to do in retirement and how touched he is by the outpouring support, including greats in Pittsburgh and the NFL. Ed said he would trade Mason Rudolph. The guys got some stories out of Ed in his esteemed career covering the Steelers. Ed then broke down the Steelers draft class for 2022. Ed gave his thoughts on Kevin Colbert’s retirement and who his replacement could be.

Mike Tomlin spoke more to Rich Eisen about the Steelers QB competition. 

Steve Palazzalo of Pro Football Focus joined the show. Steve gave his quick Steelers QB take – Mitch Trubisky will be the starter for the first four weeks of the season. Steve likes both of the Steelers selections at wide receiver – George Pickens and Calvin Austin. He said those two add to Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool, making it a “dangerous” group. Steve favored the Steelers draft and really likes what they added.
