Steve Palazzalo of Pro Football Focus joined the show. Steve gave his quick Steelers QB take – Mitch Trubisky will be the starter for the first four weeks of the season. Steve likes both of the Steelers selections at wide receiver – George Pickens and Calvin Austin. He said those two add to Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool, making it a “dangerous” group. Steve favored the Steelers draft and really likes what they added.

The guys get set for Pens-Rangers Game 2 tonight in New York. Louis Domingue tries to steal the show again. Poni thinks Domingue will take over the series and the hearts of Pittsburghers everywhere. Chris said the Pens have to be set to take the Rangers best punch in the first period again like they did in Game 1. The guys were upset they didn’t get ‘Let’s Go Pens’ cupcakes.

Being a great investigative journalist, Mike tried the infamous spicy pork and broccoli that Louis Domingue mentioned after Game 1. He talked about what Mike Sullivan expects out of Domingue tonight and going forward in this series with the issues at goalie. Mike got into some unsung heroes we could see emerge tonight and in the series.

Both brought up the situation Brian Flores had to deal with in Miami a few years ago with rookie Tua Tagovailoa and veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick. Chris advocated for easing Kenny into the starting role and why playing him right away could hurt his development.

Former Penguins goalie Ken Wregget joined the show. Ken played in the longest game in Penguin history. He talked about what it was like playing in a game like that and how he can relate to Louie Domingue. He talked about the game last night and the mentality Domingue had coming off the bench cold. He thinks Domingue is ready to roll and it could be a great boost to the team with a backup goalie. He commented on the goalie interference call – saying it would not have been a call during his playing career, but it was the right call now. Ken is rooting hard to Domingue to stay healthy and why it will be a tough call for Mike Sullivan to make a move at this point if Domingue continues to play well.

The Pens are up 1-0 on the Rangers after a 4-3 3OT win last night to start the playoffs. A hero was born last night inside Madison Square Garden and his name is Louie Domingue. Poni pushed for Domingue to start Game 2 and possibly the remainder of the series. Chris credited Evgeni Malkin with his heroics in the game-winning sequence.

He said it was awesome to see what Domingue accomplished last night and nicknamed him “King Domingue.” He said coming into the game cold with zero room for error is remarkably impressive. He said Domingue looked ready for the moment. Mike talked about Domingue’s baking ability and how he would have a career in that field if hockey didn’t work out. Mike thinks Domingue has a great calmness to him and probably isn’t worked up about potentially starting a road playoff game tomorrow night.

Pitt football has lost the best wide receiver in the country as Jordan Addison has entered the transfer portal. The guys debated who is most at fault here and if there’s any foul play between Pitt, USC and Addison. 

Hall of Fame Steelers running back Franco Harris joined the show. Franco reflected on what it was like to announce Kenny Pickett’s name Thursday night at the NFL Draft. He was overly excited because he didn’t expect the Steelers to have a chance at picking him. He said he’s watched some of Kenny’s games and “he’s a player.” Franco gave his expectations for Pickett going into the season. He said it’s a tough adjustment to the NFL, but Kenny provides a lot of promise for the city and organization. The guys asked Franco what he thinks of the new Harris in town – Najee Harris – and how impressed he was by his rookie season. Franco plead the fifth when asked if he was more excited about announcing Kenny Pickett (Pitt) or Pat Freiermuth (Penn State) last year. Franco is fired up over the combination.
