TITLE: TIME TO STRETCH
VERSE: You have tested us, O God; you have purified us like silver. PSALM 66:10
It's like a sandwich: Psalm 66 has substance between the slices, but it's not very pleasant. It begins and ends with praise, recounting God's great works in the past and trusting Him for answered prayer in the present. But in the meantime, He has allowed the people to be oppressed and taken captive. In other words, He has given them enormous contradictions to His goodness and His ultimate purpose for them.
But this is why we need to stretch! We need to stretch our faith so that it can encompass all of these things at once—so that our hearts can hold space for both suffering and joy. If we don't stretch ourselves if we don't grow beyond what we think we can handle right now—if we don't learn how to trust God when it seems like everything is falling apart under us—then how will we ever be prepared for what comes next?
God promises us good things and then allows evil. He promises to answer our prayers, and yet it seems that He remains silent. It is as if He is putting contradictions right in front of our faces.
The reason this happens, however, is because God wants us to live by faith—not by sight. God insists that we invest all of our affections and hopes in the unseen world and not the seen. Only when we do that are we ready for the manifestation of what was spoken.
So much of our lives is a waiting game. We wait in line, we wait for the bus, we wait for the results of a test or an interview. And then there's the waiting on God.
We pray and ask Him to meet us where we are, but it doesn't always seem like He does. It feels like He's making us wait too long for His answer. We can question His goodness and faithfulness in this relational dynamic with Him, but this is by design—our capacity for faith grows only by stretching.
If God has called us to great things, He stretches our faith a lot. He wants us to believe despite the contradictions and paradoxes that threaten to make it impossible to trust His voice above all other voices out there. And the only way to do that is to hear those other voices and still choose His.
How do you know if you're ready to hear God?
If you're still stretching yourself, if you're still growing, then you're ready.
When we can do that, we begin to hear God more often. He trusts us with His secrets and reveals His plans. He never removes the need for faith —we will always see and hear in part, not in full —but we see and hear more than before. Why? Because He has tested us, and we have passed.
LET'S PRAY...
Father, please help me understand Your ways and not mistrust You when circumstances seem to contradict You. You are always working out Your best purposes for me.

TITLE: FROM THE HEART OF GOD
VERSE: [Jesus said,] “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” JOHN 15:7
“In Me and My words in you. You struggle to understand this, but it isn’t complicated. I graft My life into yours and yours into Mine; we become one. And I plant My words in you for them to grow up and bear fruit. This is why you are able to relate to Me and pray in complete faith.
“Maybe it will help if you understand what this does not mean. When I give you an instruction, I want you to consume it, not weigh it as an option. When I give you a promise, I want you to cling to it regardless of what you see or what anyone else says about it. When I give you encouragement, I expect you not to dismiss it as ‘fluff’ or underestimate its power but to be nourished by it as life-giving truth. To have My words ‘abiding’ or ‘remaining’ in you means not only to nod your head in agreement but to let them shape your identity. I speak My Father’s spiritual DNA into your spirit with My voice. On that basis, I give you this promise of answered prayer.
“Hold on to My words. They are more than encouragement, instruction, and promise. They are your life. They shape you. They plant seeds in your heart that will grow up and produce a harvest. They are promises that come true only when you can hold on to them without letting go, even when wind and waves try to shake you off of them. I honor the holy stubbornness of those who have so thoroughly embraced My words that they could not possibly give up on them without abandoning a part of themselves. Don’t just hear them. Let them become unquenchably alive within you.”
LET'S PRAY...
Jesus, I have longed for the fulfillment of this promise; let the condition become my reality, my experience in every area of my life. Let me find my identity —every impulse, every breath, every heartbeat —in Your words. And may the Father answer my prayers as though they come directly from You.

TITLE: A WORSHIPFUL FRAME OF MIND
VERSE: I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard . . .REVELATION 1:10, NKJV
John was in some kind of deep devotional or worshipful frame of mind when he heard the Lord speak.
He was probably not talking about a particular day of the week—the phrase “the Lord’s Day,” or “the day of the Lord,” is almost always used in Scripture to refer to judgment and is never used to refer to a Sabbath.
And what does he mean by being “in the Spirit”? Is he in a vision or a trance leading up to the time that he sees heaven opened? Or is he simply in sync and in deep fellowship with the Spirit? Regardless of these details, we can draw some pretty clear conclusions: John was in some kind of deep devotional or worshipful frame of mind when he heard the Lord speak.
In the book of Revelation, we see God's voice manifested in a variety of ways. Some are literal, some are symbolic, and some are figurative. All of them point to the fact that God speaks through us, and He does so in many different ways.
Does that mean we always need to be in some meditative state to hear God’s voice? Of course not. After all, there are some rather exceptional aspects to the visions of Revelation; it’s not exactly a pattern to follow. It does, however, point to a dynamic that occurs often in Scripture.
A well-cultivated, meaningful relationship with God creates an environment in which we are much more likely to hear Him speak. He sometimes comes upon the unsuspecting —Moses and Paul are notable examples —but He more often draws near to those who have come near to Him. Just as we recognize the voices of those we spend the most time with, so will we recognize God’s voice as we spend ample time with Him. What begins as a whisper grows into a shout if we are in close fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
We all need to take a break from time to time. It’s a chance to step away from the hustle and bustle of life and just be alone with God.
It’s also a chance to get together with other believers, who can help us draw closer in worship, in prayer, and even in just resting in His presence. Time is never better spent than when we spend it in fellowship with God’s Spirit. That’s where relationships deepen, and deep relationships are where He loves to speak.
LET'S PRAY,
Holy Spirit, I offer myself to You —to be “in” You, on any day, and to hear whatever You want to say. Draw me into the closeness of the relationship that causes You to want to share Your heart.

TITLE: APPEAR EXTRA HOLY
VERSE: I tell you, Elijah has already come, but he wasn’t recognized, and they chose to abuse him. And in the same way, they will also make the Son of Man suffer. MATTHEW 17:12
Many people believe that the prophetic gift of the Spirit is not at work in the church today. One of the reasons for the skepticism is that most believers look like normal human beings, not superspiritual prophets —as if a prophetic gift would make someone glow or appear extra holy. In the Bible, however, even the greatest prophets were flawed human beings. None was sinless. And most were rejected by plenty of people because they didn’t look particularly prophetic.
In 1 Samuel 16:7–12, God tells Samuel to go see Jesse and anoint one of his sons as king of Israel. When he arrives at Jesse’s house, he finds a group of seven strapping young men standing outside, ready to fight each other over who deserves to be chosen king over Israel. God tells him to “look at this one” (v. 6), but when Samuel looks at David he sees nothing special about him—just another kid with long hair and dirty feet who loves working with his hands (vv. 7–8).
The Bible describes many other prophets who looked just like ordinary people—with no glow or outstanding qualities—yet still had extraordinary gifts from God. Isaiah was known as “a man of unclean lips."
In Jesus’ day, John the Baptist was celebrated as a prophet by many, but he was also rejected by many others—especially the religious experts who were supposed to be close to God. In fact, Jesus criticized the religious leaders for not recognizing John as the “Elijah [who] has already come.” And Jesus knew He would suffer at their hands too. A great prophet and the Son of God Himself were rejected as genuine prophets by those whose religious grid didn’t allow for the presence of prophets in their midst. And a generation missed the time of its visitation by God.
Jesus knew this would happen, and He prepared His disciples for it by teaching them that they must become like children in order to enter into His kingdom (Mark 10:15). Children are open to learning from anyone who speaks with authority; they don’t need credentials or degrees before they will obey; they don’t question what is said or how it is said; they simply obey. They are willing to let themselves be taught because they know there is something greater than themselves pulling their strings and that someone else should have first dibs on determining what is true and right.
In a world where the supernatural is dismissed, we too often ignore the possibility that God could be speaking. But here’s the thing: God has spoken, and He still speaks today.
What are we to do? Open ourselves up to the possibilities. Allow the Spirit to speak through His people. And listen as if we may be hearing the very words of God.
LET'S PRAY...
Lord, what does a prophetic word sound like? How can I know it’s You? Teach me to be discerning without being skeptical, to be open without being gullible, and to listen to anyone through whom You might be speaking. Open my ears to Your voice —whatever it sounds like.

TITLE: GOD'S WARNING
Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance. But he did not inquire of the LORD. 1 CHRONICLES 10:13-14, NKJV
We are all seeking God’s voice. It is the desire of every believer to hear from God, and He wants to speak to us. The Holy Spirit wants to guide us, comfort us, and bring peace into our lives. But sometimes we can’t tell what is really coming from God and what isn’t. There are many counterfeits out there, and they can be dangerous. We have to be very prayerful and very careful.
God wants us to seek His voice, promises to speak to us, and often uses a variety of ways to express and confirm His message. But that doesn’t mean we can hear Him through any means we choose. There are plenty of counterfeits out there, and they can be dangerous. God is not the only spiritual entity who speaks; the kingdom of darkness has voices too.
God's Word is clear about this—we are not to consult with mediums or seek out those who consult the spirits of the dead.
It's called "spiritual prostitution," and it's something God forbids us from engaging in. He calls on us to listen only to Him—His Word, His Spirit, and His people. We must measure everything we hear against His written Word and take it straight to Him in prayer with a sincere desire for discernment.
Anything else is like drinking mystery substances indiscriminately without knowing what they are and hoping they don't poison you.
It's a spiritual truth that we all hear messages from the world around us. And it's a spiritual truth that some of those messages are lies.
The kingdom of darkness is alive and well in our world. The enemy is trying to confuse you, and he's using every trick in his book to get what he wants: your life, your soul, and your eternal destiny.
You don't have to listen to him! Just ask God about it! If you're unsure about something, take it to Him—and take it with people who will help you discern what's true and what isn't.
It's not just about hearing from God; it's about hearing from Him through His Word, through trusted friends and advisers who can help you make sense of everything else.
LET'S PRAY.....
Lord, I don’t want to be so afraid of counterfeits that I also shut my ears to You. But I do want to be discerning. Help me to spot counterfeits quickly and accurately. And silence any voices of darkness in my life.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
TITLE: THE DIVINE ELEMENTS
VERSE: This man must die! That kind of talk will undermine the morale of the few fighting men we have left, as well as that of all the people. This man is a traitor! JEREMIAH 38:4
TAKEAWAY: He'll leave an imprint on your heart that will never go away, no matter how long you live or how many things happen in your life. You'll know it when He speaks because He'll speak with His own voice, not through someone else's words—you'll hear Him loud and clear!
The prophet Jeremiah was a man of God.
It is difficult to discern the voice of God through the voice of a man. The words that Jeremiah spoke were not his own—they were the words of God. Yet, when he spoke to them, people did not believe him. They thought he was being negative and speaking from his own fears and biases. So they refused to listen to him and made him suffer.
When God wanted to speak, He chose people. He didn't just throw a message out into the world and hope it landed somewhere. He chose human beings to be His messengers and then went about the work of training them to speak His words so that when they opened their mouths, people would know God was speaking.
It wasn't easy—not for them or for us. When we hear a word from God today, we're just as likely to reject it because of its source as accepting it because of its content. We're just as likely to believe that anyone who speaks in the name of God is doing so correctly and accurately as we are to believe that any who claim such a thing are false prophets. And yet despite all this… despite our imperfections… despite the fact that we can so easily mishear Him… despite all these things… God continues to speak through human beings today!
We all want to hear from God. We will do almost anything to try to get His attention, and we will do even more to make sure that what we hear is actually Him.
I believe that it's possible for us to hear God speak.
I believe that we all can if we want to.
But I don't think it's always easy.
I don't think it's something you'll get right away, either. It takes practice, and a willingness to try something different than what you've done before—and maybe even something totally new. But when you do have an experience with God, there's no mistaking it: He'll leave an imprint on your heart that will never go away, no matter how long you live or how many things happen in your life. You'll know it when He speaks because He'll speak with His own voice, not through someone else's words—you'll hear Him loud and clear!
LET'S PRAY...
Lord, forgive me if I’ve been too critical of any of Your servants who speak Your words. Give me an open heart with true discernment. Let me hear Your voice, even when it comes through someone just like me.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
TITLE: HERE I AM
VERSE: “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” GENESIS 22:1
TAKEAWAY: If you want to live at the center of God's will, then all you have to do is stop making excuses and start saying "here I am."
I know that God has plans for me, but sometimes I wonder if He knows what He's doing.
I mean, take Abraham and Isaac. God told Abraham that he would have a son and that his name would be Isaac. But then one day He said, "Take your son up to a mountain and sacrifice him."
Abraham was confused at first, but when he realized that this was really God talking, he offered to do it—without even asking how or why. He just said "Here I am" and went out with his son to complete the task.
Now here's where it gets weird: In the middle of the journey, God stopped Abraham and told him not to sacrifice Isaac after all. He had just wanted to test Abraham's trust in Him—and he passed with flying colors.
So now we have this story where God asked someone to do something terrible… just because He could see how faithful they would be in doing it!
The phrase "Here I am" has been used by some of the most influential people in history: Jacob, Moses, Samuel, David, and Isaiah. It's also the first thing God said to Abraham—and it's the answer to all our prayers.
When God calls us to something greater than ourselves, it's natural to feel nervous or even afraid. We have a million reasons why we can't do what He asks of us. That's why this phrase is so powerful: it reminds us that God is with us in our journey and that our response to His call will change the world.
When we come face-to-face with God's glory and hear Him ask us to go on a journey of faith and obedience, we should respond with those three words: "Here I am."
I know what you're thinking.
"Here I am" is the phrase God used to say He was present when He answered our prayers.
But does that mean I should just say it and expect things to happen?
Well, yes… and no. The phrase itself isn't magic. It's just a declaration of availability—a way of laying your life out as an offering to God. The power comes from what you do after you say it. If that seems like a risk, keep in mind that if you don't lay yourself out for God, then someone else will fill the space with their own plans for your life. And those aren't always good plans!
If you want to live at the center of God's will, then all you have to do is stop making excuses and start saying "here I am."
LET'S PRAY...
Lord, I present myself to You as a living sacrifice, whether history hinges on my commitment or not. I make this offering to You: to be moved and activated by Your voice. Here I am.
