PRAYER:  Father, I need You so desperately, yet I expect You to remain distant. Why is my soul so discouraged? Expose my heart for the lies it embraces. I choose to hope in You  —in everything, for everything, and for always.

TITLE: IS THIS ALL THERE IS?

VERSE: As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? PSALM 42:1-2

✔️ - Sometimes we long to be rescued.

✔️ - We have deeper needs than we know how to satisfy.

✔️ - So we thirst.

✔️ - We need to be known at the deepest level and embraced there.

TAKEAWAY:  But before all that is the thirst. If it’s strong enough, we won’t stop listening, even if hearing is difficult. We will long for streams of water until we find them.

PRAYER:  Lord, satisfy this quest. My relentless thirst is for You. Quench it with gushing streams of Your wisdom and inspiration. Let Your words fulfill my deepest desires.

TAKEAWAY:  You can know Me in ways that no one else can. Don’t squander that privilege; enjoy it. I have chosen you to fill a role that no one else can fill.”

PRAYER:  Jesus, it’s hard to imagine that You relate to me in ways that are exclusive to me. Thank You for choosing me specifically to uniquely understand who You are.

VERSE: [God said,] “Now I will tell you new things, secrets you have not yet heard.” ISAIAH 48:6

✔️ - “Lord, teach me something about You that I don’t already know.”

✔️ - Immediately, I saw myself in that verbal exchange.

✔️ - When He says something, it’s true  —without an expiration date.

TAKEAWAY:  When we ask God to show us more of Himself, He finds a way to speak to our hearts and draw us closer.

PRAYER:  Lord, I long to know who You are  —deeply, intimately, and beyond religious explanations. And I know You are zealous to unveil Your nature personally to those who long for You. Give me pictures of Your perspective so I can know Your heart.

TITLE: ACCESS TO GOD'S VOICE

VERSE: Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, “Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.” JOHN 7:38

✔️ - Jesus stood up on the last day of the feast, right at the time when a symbolic act of pouring out water normally took place

✔️ - If we believe, we can embody the Spirit of God.

✔️ - This is the primary means of hearing God’s voice, even when we’re reading Scripture, which we can’t understand apart from the Spirit.

✔️ - We simply need to discern the difference.

TAKEAWAY:  He gives us remarkable but simple gifts  —if we believe Him. And when we believe, the divine voice resonates inside of us, flowing through us with the thoughts and desires of God Himself.

PRAYER:  Holy Spirit, flow through me like a rushing river, filling me with dreams and ideas from Your heart. I want more than trickles; I want torrents. Help me discern the difference between my thoughts and Yours, but let me not get stuck trying to analyze them. Give me faith to believe.

TITLE: SOLUTIONS NOT YET DISCOVERED

VERSE: This hope will not lead to disappointment. ROMANS 5:5

✔️ - It’s okay. You can allow yourself to hope.

✔️ - He is the giver of every good gift.

✔️ - Many people who listen for God’s voice are predisposed to hearing His restrictions, limitations, and corrections.

✔️ - When God is in the mix, no situation is hopeless.

TAKEAWAY:  When God speaks, He is far more interested in filling your heart with expectancy than subduing you with limitations. Embrace the hope that does not disappoint.

PRAYER:  Lord, my heart seems so biased toward low expectations. My instinct is to protect myself from disappointment. But Your Kingdom is different; You incline our hearts toward hope. Give me the courage to embrace hope without fear of disappointment. Let me see Your goodness in the land of the living.

TITLE: THE BRUTAL AND PAINFUL PART

VERSE: O LORD , you misled me, and I allowed myself to be misled. You are stronger than I am, and you overpowered me. JEREMIAH 20:7

✔️ - Jeremiah was frustrated and humiliated.

✔️ - God’s voice had led him into a seemingly disastrous life’s work.

✔️ - Like most prophets, Jeremiah wasn’t called simply to express God’s words.

✔️ - The voice of God became a brutal, painful part of Jeremiah’s life.

TAKEAWAY:  Pay attention; He may be speaking not only to your heart but also through it.

PRAYER:  Lord, it’s amazing how many times my situations have some divine parallel that give me a glimpse of Your heart. Help me notice the connections. Let me recognize  —and even embody  —your thoughts and feelings.

TITLE: THE SMOLDERING WORD

VERSE: If I say I’ll never mention the LORD or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it! JEREMIAH 20:9

✔️ - God’s voice can burn.

✔️ - When God wants to deliver a message through us, it eventually has to come out.

✔️ - More people are interested in hearing God’s voice for themselves than in hearing it on behalf of others.

✔️ - When God’s message is unpopular, we don’t want to be unpopular by voicing it.

TAKEAWAY:  Will we let the fire consume us within? Or let it do its purifying work in the world? Genuine love will compel our hearts to speak hard words when needed.

PRAYER:  Lord, I want to be obedient to speak Your word, but I also don’t want to miss the timing or speak presumptuously. Fill me with Your fire  —and the boldness to spread it wisely.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER

TITLE: MY AGENDA VS GOD'S

VERSE: Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.” 1 SAMUEL 3:10

✔️ - Samuel did as Eli the priest had instructed.

✔️ - His ears and his heart were already committed to the coming word, even before it was uttered.

✔️ - We have to hear not just with open ears, but with surrendered hearts.

✔️ - I’ll accept it with joy, whatever it is.

TAKEAWAY:  The commitment must come before the information does; that’s how God designs it. He speaks loudest to those who already know they are going to act on what He says.

PRAYER:  Lord, I’ve made that commitment. I don’t just listen to You in order to consider my options. I’m not just paying attention out of curiosity. I need Your direction. It is life to me. I have already decided I am going to do whatever You say, no matter how much it defies my expectations. Your will is my food, Your wish my command. Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.

✔️ - You want a specific direction for your life, and I am glad to give it.

✔️ - Your heart is the bigger issue.

✔️ - Do you realize how much I’ve already spoken to you?

✔️ - I have demonstrated My will for your life.

TAKEAWAY:  I intend for you to understand everything you hear Me saying as My words for you. Love what I love, hate what I hate, act as I act, speak as I speak. This is My will for your life.

PRAYER:  Jesus, help me to not only listen for the messages You speak, but also to hear the messages You’ve already given. I can’t be like You unless You pour Your life into me. Empower me to do what I see You doing.
