PRAYER:  Jesus, You are the wisdom of God. I don’t need information from You nearly as much as I simply need You. Fill me with Yourself, and I will have all the wisdom I need.

TITLE: HERE IS THE DIFFERENCE

VERSE: The Word became human and made his home among us. JOHN 1:14

✔️ - Throughout Hebrew Scripture, God tells us what He is like.

✔️ - If we look at the Word of God as a person rather than as verbal communication, we get a dramatic picture of God’s heartbeat.

✔️ - So when the Word embodied in flesh made His home among us, what did He display?

✔️ - The Word embodies love.

TAKEAWAY:  But the Word is still passionately in love with His people, and any words that don’t express that love aren’t His. He is still pouring out His radical, sacrificial, compassionate love into our lives.

PRAYER:  Jesus, I so often assume that You are displeased or demanding, and my ears seem to fill in the blanks with attitudes that aren’t Yours. Open my heart  —and my ears  —to Your relentless love.

TITLE: IN THE BEGINNING

VERSE: The Word became human and made his home among us. JOHN 1:14

✔️ - The Gospel of John begins with a startling statement: In the beginning, there was the Word.

✔️ - What would someone known as “the Word” actually say?

✔️ - We know from John and the rest of Scripture that the Word is Jesus.

✔️ - And He is called the Word.

TAKEAWAY:  His voice doesn’t come to us from outside, but from His Spirit, whom He has put within us. As we embrace the Word, we embody His words.

PRAYER:  Lord, You became flesh and lived among us. Enter into my flesh and live through me among Your people. Don’t just speak to me; speak through me. Be the Word in me.

TITLE: GETTING DIRECTION FROM GOD

VERSE: Once again David asked God what to do. “Do not attack them straight on,” God replied. “Instead, circle around behind and attack them near the poplar trees.” 1 CHRONICLES 14:14

✔️ - David had just won a victory over the Philistines by getting permission and direction from God.

✔️ - Yesterday’s instructions did not suffice for today.

✔️ - We need to live by that truth.

✔️ - We have to stay in a close relationship with Him, keeping our ears open, in order to know what to do.

TAKEAWAY:  Ask Him for a fresh word, listening for His guidance every step of the way. He will speak specifically to your need.

PRAYER:  Lord, what should I do? I don’t have enough wisdom for the demands of this day, but You do, so my eyes are on You. I desperately need Your guidance. Please make it clear.

TITLE: FROM THE HEART OF GOD

VERSE: Who gives intuition to the heart and instinct to the mind? JOB 38:36

✔️ - “You are a sacred work.

✔️ - My thoughts toward you are more personal and more thorough than you have ever imagined.

✔️ - “Very often when you ask to hear Me, I have already put My truth inside you.

✔️ - Much of what you are searching for outside of yourself, I have already put within you.

TAKEAWAY:  He makes His home in your body, soul, and spirit because I perfectly crafted you and thoroughly redeemed you to host His presence. Trust My work in you as much as you trust My work outside of you.”

PRAYER:  Spirit of God, I do trust You, but I don’t trust myself. Yet I have been made by the Father and remade by the Son. You have prepared me to know You fully. Anything less is false humility. Give me holy boldness to trust Your work in me.

TITLE: WHAT IS GOD WAITING FOR?

VERSE: Is anything too hard for the LORD? GENESIS 18:14

✔️ - “Lord, I don’t know how to deal with this.

✔️ - We didn’t just suddenly become brilliant. He inspired us.

✔️ - Think about the implications.

✔️ - Perhaps He is simply waiting for His people to ask Him for guidance and direction.

TAKEAWAY:  There is no reason not to ask. God’s people should be the most creative, ingenious people on the planet  —simply because we know the God of all solutions. When we stop struggling and start asking, God will very often give us answers.

PRAYER:  Lord, I need Your creativity, Your answers, Your ingenuity. Inspire me with Your brilliance, and like Joseph and Daniel, I will gladly tell people of the God who reveals mysteries.

TITLE: WHICH VOICE ARE YOU FOLLOWING?

VERSE: [The flock] follow [their shepherd] because they know his voice. JOHN 10:4

✔️ - We recognize the voices of politicians, but we don’t always follow them.

✔️ - We have to be careful.

✔️ - We don’t have to be careful with the voice of our Shepherd.

✔️ - We will be glad He led us where He did.

TAKEAWAY:  Follow everything He says, and then expect to hear more. To those who have, more will be given. And our relationship with the Shepherd will grow fuller every day.

PRAYER:  Jesus, give me more. I’m not reluctant to ask for what You already promised to give. I’ll follow every word I hear from You. Please speak to me often.

TITLE: NOT THE SMARTEST SHEEP IN THE FLOCK

VERSE: [The shepherd] walks ahead of [his flock]. JOHN 10:4

✔️ - Sheep get confused.

✔️ - They aren’t the most astute animals on the planet.

✔️ - No wonder Jesus compares us to sheep.

✔️ - Like sheep, we need a guide.

TAKEAWAY:  He knows the terrain. He has good advice for you if you will listen. He can spare you from wrong turns and frightening dangers. His voice will get you where you need to go.

PRAYER:  Jesus, what lies before me on this day? What do I need to know as I go forward? Keep my feet safely on Your path. Guide me to fulfill Your will.

TITLE: LALALA...CAN'T HEAR YOU, GOD

VERSE: [Jesus said,] “The hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes  —so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.” MATTHEW 13:15

✔️ - A hardened heart is the enemy of God’s voice and a frightening spiritual danger.

✔️ - Hearts that have grown cold and calloused effectively keep Him out, and He lets them.

✔️ - That hardening isn’t always a conscious choice.

✔️ - We become spiritually dull.

TAKEAWAY:  Devour Scripture, watch for His words, and look for ways to apply them. Let the softening of your heart draw you into God’s nourishing, healing, strengthening presence.

PRAYER:  Lord, is my heart calloused? Have I tuned You out? It’s difficult to recognize hardness in myself, and I need to know. In any areas of insensitivity in my life, soften me up. Draw me close. Get my attention and hold it. Heighten my spiritual senses to pick up on even the slightest whisper from You.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER

TITLE: TOO SMART FOR YOUR OWN GOOD

VERSE: [Jesus said,] “That is why I use these parables, for they look, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.” MATTHEW 13:13

✔️ - Jesus’ words are deep and insightful, but it doesn’t take an advanced degree to understand them.

✔️ - Following Jesus is a matter of the heart.

✔️ - Jesus’ teaching  —and the voice of God in general  —always comes to us with a context and a choice.

✔️ - Truth always requires some level of faith and humility in order to receive it.

TAKEAWAY:  His words aren’t illogical, but they are certainly extralogical  —above our ability to reason. If we can accept that, we can embrace the deep truths of His Kingdom.

PRAYER:  Lord, You don’t want me to turn off my brain. But neither do You want me to reject any word from You that doesn’t fit my logic. I give You permission to blow my mind with the things You want to tell me.
