VERSE: You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not. MATTHEW 13:11

✔️ - “Let Me turn the tables on you for a while.

✔️ - But you will learn more about Me from the questions I ask than you will from the answers I give.

✔️ - Answer this, for example: What is your true motivation for knowing Me?

✔️ - Do you want to connect with My heart not only because it’s good for you but because it’s Mine?

TAKEAWAY:  I have always loved you with an everlasting love, but when you open your heart to Me, My heart opens to you in new ways. And you will experience answers to questions you never thought to ask.”

PRAYER:  Father, You and I both know I have mixed motives, but thank You for welcoming me anyway. Purify my love for You. Fill me with holy passion. Draw me closer than I’ve ever had the nerve to come. Give us a stronger, deeper, heart-to-heart connection.

VERSE: Don’t be afraid; just believe. MARK 5:36, NIV

✔️ - It seemed like the death of a dream.

✔️ - Was I still supposed to believe the things I thought God had said, even though they now seemed impossible?

✔️ - The next day, I went to see a movie with my family.

✔️ - I knew God was speaking.

TAKEAWAY:  In our weakest moments, when doubts seem to overwhelm us or circumstances seem to challenge our trust in Him, He whispers, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” If the dream is given by Him, He will do everything necessary to keep it alive in our hearts  —including speaking through the stories in our lives.

PRAYER:  Lord, You are a God of stories. You write stories with the lives of Your people, You tell them to teach us deep truths, and You speak to us through them when we listen carefully. Fill my life with stories that impart Your words.

VERSE: Do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. . . . Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. EPHESIANS 4:30-31

✔️ - The Holy Spirit is our means of hearing God.

✔️ - If we are out of sorts with Him, we can’t expect communication to be very clear.

✔️ - In Ephesians, Paul gives a partial list of attitudes and actions that grieve the Spirit.

✔️ - And if our spiritual sensitivity determines our hearing, we begin to miss a lot.

TAKEAWAY:  When we are apathetic or unresponsive to what He has already said, we are hardly likely to hear more. But when we forsake whatever grieves Him and turn back with open hearts, His voice becomes much easier to distinguish.

PRAYER:  Spirit of God, it grieves me to think I might have grieved You. I release the junk and clutter in my spirit. Please restore anything in our relationship that needs to be restored and sensitize my heart again to Your voice.

VERSE: God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:6

✔️ - God once spoke to Moses through a burning bush.

✔️ - He knows how to reach each person’s heart  —individually.

✔️ - That’s why we can never definitively say, “This is how God speaks.”

✔️ - We are all drawn to Him differently and respond to Him differently.

TAKEAWAY:  Allow Him the flexibility to approach you however He chooses. Reject any rigid principles about what His voice will sound like. He loves to surprise us with His range of creativity.

PRAYER:  Lord, I worship You for Your creativity and welcome it in my life and the lives of others. May I never place limits on what I expect You to say or how I expect You to say it. Open my mind to anything that’s on Your heart.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER

VERSE: Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” MATTHEW 16:23

✔️ - Peter was not Satan.

✔️ - If heeded, his words would have prevented the Cross, which paid for the sins of the world and saved all who believe.

✔️ - Words of concern are not always words from God.

✔️ - His is the only voice we need to hear.

TAKEAWAY:  We must have a singular focus if we are going to hear God and fulfill what He says. When we do, He rewards us with the fruit of faith and obedience and accomplishes His will through us.

PRAYER:  Lord, refine my focus. No one’s opinion matters to me as much as Yours does. No loving, compassionate counsel can sway me if it deviates from Your words. Give me the strength to commit to only what You say, and honor my resolve to do it.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER

VERSE: [Jesus said,] “I am leaving you with a gift  —peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” JOHN 14:27

✔️ - Christians give a lot of attention to hearing what God says, but much less to recognizing His tone of voice.

✔️ - How something is said is often more significant than the words themselves.

✔️ - So when we hear God’s voice, we need to know the tone of voice it carries.

✔️ - His words will sound like they come from the mouth of the Mighty Savior who rejoices over us with singing and quiets us with His love (Zephaniah 3:17).

TAKEAWAY:  If there are battles, they will end in victory. He will not spare us from trouble, but He will certainly help us overcome it. And He will speak peace to our hearts.

PRAYER:  Yes, Jesus, I need Your peace. I cast aside all false voices  —words of panic, turmoil, and condemnation. I love the sound of Your true voice.

VERSE: I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. PSALM 16:7

✔️ - In the pattern of Hebrew parallelism, these companion statements are meant to reflect the same idea.

✔️ - When our own thoughts aren’t in control, God’s thoughts can flourish in us.

✔️ - Some Christians see the mind as the rightful guardian of the spirit within us, but our minds can be as fallen as any other aspect of ourselves.

✔️ - God gets an inroad directly into the heart.

TAKEAWAY:  Take your night guidance seriously and listen to the instruction of the heart. Ask questions when you wake up  —about discernment, about interpretation, about how God wants you to respond. Your Father has been speaking to you, even at night.

PRAYER:  Lord, as I lie down to sleep, let Your Spirit guide my heart. Download truth into me, sing songs of deliverance over me, show me solutions to problems, open my mind to Your ideas. Give me spiritual breakthroughs, even as I sleep.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER

VERSE: Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you.” GENESIS 41:39-40

✔️ - George Washington Carver began each day with an earnest prayer that God would reveal to him the secrets of the peanut

✔️ - He believed that unless God drew back the curtain on the mysteries of His creation, these things would never be seen.

✔️ - God honored Carver’s request by showing him more than three hundred uses for the peanut

✔️ - He longs to show the world the goodness of His heart.

TAKEAWAY:  That’s one of the most important reasons to listen to Him  —so we can show the world His goodness. His plans are better than the enemy’s and better than those of human ingenuity. He will lift His people into positions to bless if we will ask Him what’s on His heart.

PRAYER:  Lord, Your desire is to use me as a conduit of revelation and blessing to the world around me. In order to do that, I need Joseph-like insight into Your mysteries. I will bring problems from my workplace and community to you. Please open my mind to Your divine creativity to solve them.
