EPISODE: 22-1

VERSE: His words are upon my tongue. 2 SAMUEL 23:2

✔️ - In the movies, God’s voice thunders from heaven.

✔️ - No one questions what God says when Hollywood portrays His voice.

✔️ - But apart from a few rare exceptions in Scripture, that’s not normally how it works in real life.

✔️ - In God’s wisdom, this is better than thundering His voice from heaven. It requires faith.

TAKEAWAY:  We can be filled with His truth and love. And when we are, we very often find that His words are upon our tongues.

PRAYER:  Lord, when I hear Your voice through others, help me to be neither hypercritical nor under-discerning. Let me rightly distinguish what comes from Your heart. And when I speak Your truth and love, may it always be received by those for whom it is intended.

TITLE: CHOSEN

EPISODE: 22-190

VERSE: The Spirit of the LORD speaks through me. 2 SAMUEL 23:2

✔️ - These are among the last words of David  —not David the priest or David the prophet, but David the shepherd-turned-king.

✔️ - And apparently it qualifies a shepherd to speak God’s words.

✔️ - That’s the kind of person God chooses to speak through.

✔️ - All that’s required is a life that is yielded to Him.

TAKEAWAY:  The Spirit of the Lord is more than willing to speak through those in intimate fellowship with Him. In knowing His heart, we are qualified to express it, and He is eager to give us the words to do so.

PRAYER:  Spirit of God, David was no more qualified to speak for You than I am, as long as my heart is zealous for You. So cultivate the right heart in me. Draw me close to You and let Your words flow through me.

TITLE: FROM THE HEART OF GOD

EPISODE: 22-189

VERSE: Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don’t pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the LORD ’s holy day. ISAIAH 58:13

✔️ - “Why do you read My Word?"

✔️ - "Your goal when you read My Word will determine what you do with it."

✔️ - “That’s why many throughout the centuries have seen the Sabbath as a demand, an obligation to fulfill rather than a blessing to receive."

✔️ - "You can come away with Me guilt-free."

TAKEAWAY:  "If you do them, it must be because you care  —because My desires matter to you. That’s the reaction My voice is meant to provoke in you, and it’s the only reaction I want from you. Hear Me with your heart.”

PRAYER:  Lord, may I never hear Your voice without connecting with Your heart. As I take time to be alone with You, meet me with Your presence, power, and love. May everything I do be an extension of my relationship with You.

TITLE: TIMELY WORDS

EPISODE: 22-188

VERSE: How good is a timely word! PROVERBS 15:23, NIV

✔️ - A member of our group asked for prayer for her mother, who was suffering from a terminal disease and was increasingly unable to walk.

✔️ - After we prayed, we read through a preselected psalm, Psalm 145, with each person reading two verses aloud.

✔️ - God is the master of timely words.

✔️ - He knows how to time His voice to get our attention and fit our circumstances.

TAKEAWAY:  Whatever your need, He has something to say. And He knows the perfect timing to say it.

PRAYER:  Lord, impress upon me the folly of seeing timely words as “coincidences.” You are the Master of my circumstances, and Your timing is impeccable. You coordinate the things I hear and see. Help me recognize Your voice in them.

TITLE: A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP

EPISODE: 22-187

VERSE: He will proclaim justice to the nations. MATTHEW 12:18

✔️ - We live in an age of personalized Christianity, in which each person has his or her own relationship with God, and the individual is paramount.

✔️ - And we also forget that He is interested not only in evangelism but also in justice.

✔️ - Though modern evangelical Christians have an aversion to “social gospel” movements of the past.

✔️ - He wants His creation to be spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, physically, and materially whole.

TAKEAWAY:  We are meant to reflect His heart in this world. And reflecting His heart means we will seek justice for the nations.

PRAYER:  Jesus, if You proclaim justice to the nations, I need to proclaim it too. If this is part of Your message, I need to hear it and then live it. Help me align my life with the truth of Your agenda in this world.

TITLE: PATH TO FULFILLMENT

EPISODE: 22-186

VERSE: One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. GENESIS 37:5

✔️ - From a human perspective, Joseph’s journey looked like a tragic mistake.

✔️ - But for years it looked like the opposite.

✔️ - When God gives us a glimpse of our calling and then circumstances seem to take us in the opposite direction, we’re usually very disoriented.

✔️ - They give us direction and hope when it’s hard to tell which way is up.

TAKEAWAY:  It would also encourage him. When God speaks a “yes,” He is giving us something to cling to when everything else says no.

PRAYER:  Lord, I’m clinging to the words You have spoken to me. They are my anchor, my encouragement, and my food for living in hope. Help me always to see them as larger than my circumstances.

TITLE: A DIVINE INVITATION

EPISODE: 22-185

VERSE: [Paul wrote,] “Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight well in the Lord’s battles.” 1 TIMOTHY 1:18

✔️ - Paul doesn’t tell us what the prophetic words were that were given to Timothy, or who gave them.

✔️ - And apparently they were sufficient to fuel Timothy’s calling and keep him focused.

✔️ - God’s words have that kind of power.

✔️ - Confidence in what God has said gives us the clarity we need.

TAKEAWAY:  In God’s Kingdom, when the going gets tough, the tough will use God’s past words as weapons against every misleading thought, suggestion, distraction, and obstacle. His words yesterday are your key to victory today.

PRAYER:  Lord, I’m clinging to what You said. I won’t depart from it, no matter what contradictions I hear or think. Help me pursue only the calling You’ve given.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER

TITLE: FALLING SHORT

EPISODE: 22-184

VERSE: You are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. 1 PETER 2:9

✔️ - This statement from Peter is either true or (as far as we know) potentially true of everyone we meet.

✔️ - We don’t focus on their potential in God’s Kingdom; we focus on their experience outside of it.

✔️ - That isn’t God’s voice.

✔️ - He urges us to bless the good that He is cultivating in others.

TAKEAWAY:  Ask God what’s on His heart that He wants to share with others, and He will give you glimpses of the treasure He has placed within them. And you will be able to affirm what He wants to do in their lives.

PRAYER:  Lord, give me hope-filled words. Show me the treasure in Your people. Let me see them through spiritual eyes and bless what You are doing in their lives.

THE POWER OF GOD'S WHISPER

TITLE: THE PURSUIT

EPISODE: 22-183

VERSE: David asked the LORD, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the LORD told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!” 1 SAMUEL 30:8

✔️ - It should have been obvious to David that God was on his side.

✔️ - God would want David to pursue the raiders, rescue the wives and children of his men, and secure justice.

✔️ - Many of us assume that one-time direction from God implies a general policy that we can follow thereafter, but that’s a careless assumption.

✔️ - He gives us Himself  —His presence and His ongoing voice.

TAKEAWAY:  We can never assume that what He said last time applies just as clearly this time. In every situation, we need to ask.

PRAYER:  Lord, let me never be presumptuous about Your will. Your character never changes, but there is no end to the variety of Your methods. I’m depending on fresh guidance in every situation of my life.

TITLE: FROM THE HEART OF GOD

EPISODE: 22-182

VERSE: Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes. ISAIAH 58:12

✔️ - “Most people know Me as a personal God, the God of the individual."

✔️ - "I want the world to be a place of blessing."

✔️ - “That’s how I originally created the world to be."

✔️ - "Few have understood how concerned I am for your well-being."

TAKEAWAY:  If I’m going to bless the world through you, you will have to go into the world. There is no other way. You are called to restore, rebuild, and let My blessings flow.”

PRAYER:  Lord, I don’t know how to rebuild my city  —or even how to bless my own neighborhood. Give me ideas. Show me opportunities. Let me be an instrument of restoration in the world around me.
