✔️ Today, our offerings are usually much less intrusive in our lives and much more monetary.

✔️ Unlike the sacrifices of the Old Testament, our offering doesn’t die.

TAKEAWAY: When we offer ourselves fully to Him, he offers His guidance fully to us.

PRAYER: Lord, You take great pleasure in speaking to the sacrifices on Your altar. I do offer myself to You, but I can’t even begin to understand all the implications of that. You’ll have to show me over time. Teach me and lead me patiently.

TITLE: GOD?
EPISODE: 22-152
VERSE: Though the LORD is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud. PSALM 138:6

✔️ God is repelled by pride.

✔️ Those who are full of themselves cannot be full of Him.

✔️ Humility, on the other hand, draws God closer.

✔️ An unassuming, unpretentious soul is a natural fit for the Spirit of God.

TAKEAWAY: In other words, we are to choose humility over pride, thinking of others before ourselves. When we do, we position ourselves to receive whatever God says.

PRAYER: Lord, if there is anything in me that hinders Your voice  —any pride that causes You to withdraw  —point it out and help me deal with it. I willingly forsake anything that obstructs my perception of Your will. I gladly empty myself of me in order to be full of You.

VERSE: Enter [the Lord’s] gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. PSALM 100:4

✔️ An open window not only lets in the fresh air, but it also lets stuffy air out.

✔️ When we create the right climate within our hearts, we allow God to come to us there.

✔️ Gratitude is one of those attitudes that create the right climate.

✔️ And in knowing Him more practically, we hear Him more clearly.

TAKEAWAY: The more you tell Him why you love Him, the more He tells you the things that are on His heart.

PRAYER: Lord, thank You for Your goodness to me. Thank You for the joy of existing  —for the pleasure You provide, the needs You fill, the opportunities You give. And thank You for speaking when I really need to hear.

VERSE: I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” ISAIAH 6:8

✔️ In Acts, we see the leaders in Antioch “ministering to the Lord”

✔️ There seems to be a correlation between our worship and our ability to hear.

✔️ Worship often leads us to an encounter with God and virtually always follows one.

✔️ When our lives reflect God’s glory through our affection for Him, we begin to hear Him better.

TAKEAWAY: There are few things more difficult than worshiping when life seems to be going against you, but there’s hardly anything ultimately more rewarding.

PRAYER: Holy God, You are glorious, majestic, and beautiful. I adore Your heart  —and Your willingness to share it with me. Let me live with a strong sense of Your presence, an atmosphere in which Your words are abundant and clear. Open my heart and my ears to hear You.

VERSE: Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. ISAIAH 58:7

✔️ “You worship Me for My mercy."

✔️ "My generosity of spirit, my magnanimity toward all in need is clear."

✔️ “Then why are so many of My people so hard of hearing when I tell them to be merciful to others?"

✔️ "I am calling you to reflect My mercy to the world around you."

TAKEAWAY: "Take it all in. See the opportunities to represent Me in this world. Reflect My heart of mercy.”

PRAYER: Father, I’m so busy looking for direction that seems relevant that I miss Your pointing me to the needs of others. Lift my eyes to see every opportunity to reflect Your heart.

VERSE: He is always wrestling in prayer for you. COLOSSIANS 4:12, NIV

✔️ A friend was at a dinner party when she suddenly felt an urge to pray for her husband.

✔️ She excused herself from the table and interceded for him until she felt at peace.

✔️ When she talked to her husband later, she understood why the Spirit had prompted her to pray.

✔️ The Spirit provided strength in a time of need.

TAKEAWAY: And their strategic prayers will greatly influence the Kingdom, even halfway around the world.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, I would love to be a reliable intercessor in moments of need. Sensitize me to the impressions and burdens You give. I don’t need to understand why ; I need only to know when You want me to pray, and I will respond with zeal.

VERSE: We live by believing and not by seeing. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:7

✔️ If you are highly skilled at every aspect of your job except one, which aspect will get most of your attention?

✔️ And an alarming side effect of that tendency is to see things much more negatively than they really are.

✔️ That carries over into our approach to hearing God.

✔️ This inhibits our hearing anything else from Him.

TAKEAWAY: We live by believing whatever we have heard of His voice.

PRAYER: Lord, like faithful priests and prophets of old, I want none of your words to fall to the ground unheeded in my life. I commit to being diligent  —not legalistic, but focused  —about what You have already said.

VERSE: During that time the devil came and said to [Jesus], “If you are the Son of God . . .” MATTHEW 4:3

✔️ A voice from heaven proclaimed, “This is my dearly loved Son.”

✔️ “Oh, really?”

✔️ That’s an alarmingly accurate picture of the greatest temptations we will ever face.

✔️ Daring us to actually believe it.

TAKEAWAY: His voice is true. Faith will prove it  —eventually. Your identity as His royal child will be confirmed, and so will all His promises. In the intensity of the battle, never let go of that.

PRAYER: Lord, the temptations are fierce. I know what You said, but I see so many contradictions. Give me the strength and the tenacity to hold on. I am who You say I am, and You will do what You said You will do.

VERSE: When it was clear that we couldn’t persuade [Paul], we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.” ACTS 21:14

✔️ Though God encourages us to surround ourselves with Spirit-inspired advisers, there will be times when we have to stand alone.

✔️ Follow Him regardless of what those around them would advise.

✔️ At times, they had to go against advice from people who knew God well.

✔️ These faithful people had to know God’s voice well enough to ignore contradictory advice.

TAKEAWAY: In humility and strength, we must resolve to go where He leads, no matter what anyone else says.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the discernment to know when You are speaking to me through Your people and when You are speaking to me apart from them. Give me the humility to follow advice and the wisdom and resolve to know when to reject it.

VERSE: Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success. PROVERBS 15:22

✔️ We wish God would write His words in the sky or speak audibly to our ears.

✔️ Still, we yearn for God in the flesh.

✔️ Jesus came as God in the flesh, of course; that’s what the Incarnation was all about.

✔️ We may not at first realize the implications of God’s desire to communicate with us

✔️ That’s why Scripture tells us there is success in many advisers.

TAKEAWAY: When you listen to the wisdom of fellow believers, God’s voice will likely be somewhere in the mix. You’ll have to discern it, but it’s there. Surround yourself with Spirit-filled people and listen to what the Spirit says through them.

PRAYER: Spirit of God, speak to me through Your people. Let Your voice ring true when they speak Your words. I cannot travel this journey alone. Fill Your people with truth.
