VERSE: God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? NUMBERS 23:19

1️⃣ It begins with a dream in your heart, which then turns into a prayer.

2️⃣ Did God get tired of waiting on me and change His mind?

3️⃣ When Balaam, the son of Beor, was summoned by the king of Moab to curse God’s chosen people, he had enough sense to ask God for His direction first.

PRAYER: Lord, my wilderness is long and painful. I’ve nearly lost faith. But You have never given Your word and then defaulted on it. I choose to trust Your goodness and believe Your promise.

VERSE: The LORD sent Nathan the prophet to tell David this story...2 SAMUEL 12:1

1️⃣ David had sinned terribly and lived in denial for months.

2️⃣ If the sin were ever to be dealt with, God would have to open the conversation.

3️⃣ So God sent the prophet Nathan to tell David a story  —a story about sheep and an unjust owner.

4️⃣ That’s often how God speaks to us.

VERSE: When you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. JAMES 1:6, NIV

1️⃣ Some people ask for God’s wisdom without any assurance that they might receive it.

2️⃣ This pattern is the unfortunate testimony of many.

3️⃣ God is much more intentional about communicating with us than that, and much more willing to be heard than we think He is.

4️⃣ He urges us to come, to ask, and to believe.

PRAYER: Lord, I’ve asked to hear Your voice; now I’m choosing to believe. I’ll trust that You will keep me from error, and I’ll accept what I believe You’re saying. Guide me into truth.

VERSE: Anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. LUKE 6:49

1️⃣ When we say we want to hear God’s voice, we need to understand that we aren’t just expressing curiosity.

2️⃣ Either way, whether purposely or not, we’ve set our hearts against His.

3️⃣ We don’t want to find ourselves in that position.

4️⃣ Afterward, we have only one clear, sensible response. And it may not be easy.

PRAYER: Lord, I confess there have been times when I’ve been very angry with You. I haven’t understood what You were doing  —why things You promised were taking so long, or why adversity struck when I was trusting You for good. VERSE: O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus. ACTS 4:29-30

1️⃣ A young Christian woman from the Middle East described how persecution was increasing in her region and Christians were becoming uncertain about their future.

2️⃣ His work was increasingly visible.

3️⃣ These conflicting trends  —greater persecution along with a greater move of God  —have happened often in church history.

4️⃣ Nevertheless, when persecution and deception are abundant, so are the works of the Holy Spirit.

VERSE: Because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” GALATIANS 4:6

1️⃣ The Spirit of God puts a child’s cry within us.

2️⃣ We can come boldly before His throne without cowering before His majesty.

3️⃣ If God’s Spirit prompts us to speak to God in familiar, intimate language, it follows that He would speak to us in very familiar terms as well.

4️⃣ He relates to the Spirit of Jesus within us.

VERSE: You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. PSALM 16:11

1️⃣ Maybe you think God is mainly interested in getting you to follow instructions.

2️⃣ But according to this verse, there’s an even higher destination for us: pleasure.

3️⃣ If that’s hard to believe, it’s because of our own sense of unworthiness on top of two thousand years of church teaching about austerity and deprivation and mortifying the flesh.

4️⃣ God is leading us toward having a really good time.

TAKEAWAY: Every time His words seem difficult, they are offering an accelerated pathway into His joy instead. God really is on our side!

PRAYER: Lord, I long for the eternal pleasures at Your right hand. I know many of them begin now, and I want to experience them fully. Please honor my attentiveness to Your words by giving me strong tastes of those pleasures in this age.

VERSE: This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. 1 JOHN 4:2

1️⃣ In the apostle John’s day, the most dangerous falsehoods about Jesus centered on whether He was actually human or not.

2️⃣ Whoever suggests such a thing, said John, is speaking from an anti-Christ spirit.

3️⃣ This was not the only heresy to infect the church throughout its history. Many other anti-Christ claims have been taught and practiced.

4️⃣ His character and purposes are constant.

TAKEAWAY: We may encounter mysteries and have to sort them out over time, but we won’t hear glaring inconsistencies. God’s words are always true to who He is.

PRAYER: Lord, I trust in Your words as an extension of Your character and Your purposes. My spirit joins with Yours to hear and to honor Your truth. Let everything I hear, do, say, and think be a reflection of Your Son and His Kingdom.
