VERSE: At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.” MATTHEW 11:25, NKJV

POINT-1: This verse specifies that Jesus “answered,” yet the context doesn’t indicate that anyone had spoken to Him.

POINT-2: If we are to be like Jesus, as Scripture clearly says we should, this has profound implications.

POINT-3: When Paul tells his readers to “never stop praying” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), we can instantly relate.

POINT-4: We don’t want to be presumptuous.

TAKEAWAY: This is our goal: to cut through the clutter of our outward environment and our inward thoughts in order to fix our focus on God’s voice. Our prayers should lead us to that depth of fellowship.

VERSE: This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans. 1 CORINTHIANS 1:25

POINT-1: Scripture makes a clear distinction between God’s wisdom and our own.

POINT-2: God often gives us apparent folly to see if we’ll accept it as wisdom, and He often foils the best of our wisdom in order to show Himself wiser.

POINT-3: We must insist on the need to hear God’s voice, even if He gives us surprising, counterintuitive direction.

POINT-4: From His perspective  —are able to enjoy the adventure of a supernatural life.

TAKEAWAY: All we really need to know is that we have heard. Then we can follow God anywhere  —even if it seems absurd.

PRAYER: Father, I trust Your will  —even when I don’t understand it, and even when others might think I’m foolish for following it. I embrace Your wisdom, no matter how it appears.

VERSE: The Spirit of the LORD came upon one of the men standing there. . . . He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says . . .” 2 CHRONICLES 20:14-15

POINT-1: Judah was being invaded, and King Jehoshaphat cried out to God.

POINT-2: The Spirit came on one of the men standing there. Apparently, this was not the leading court prophet or the high priest.

POINT-3: What would happen today if someone in a crowd—even a church crowd—began shouting the Lord’s will?

POINT-4: The next day, the king articulated his approach: “Believe in [God’s] prophets, and you will succeed” (2 Chronicles 20:20).

TAKEAWAY: We dismiss God’s voice far too often, simply because we aren’t absolutely certain it is His. But God honors steps of faith  —even when we happen to be mistaken about them. He encourages us to hear and respond.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, give me the boldness to take steps of faith. Help me to be discerning without overanalyzing  —to trust Your ability to lead more than my ability to miss Your leading.

VERSE: The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. EXODUS 3:2

POINT - 1: There are times in Scripture when God speaks so clearly and unmistakably that the hearer has no questions about His will.

POINT - 2: Notice an interesting dynamic: The more clearly He speaks, the greater the demand for obedience.

POINT - 3: Moses had few options. He tried to dissuade God from His plan, but God left him with no alternatives.

POINT - 4: Many of us say we long to hear God more clearly, but do we really?

TAKEAWAY: Yearn for God’s voice, but make no mistake about what the yearning will lead to: greater hearing and, therefore, much greater responsibility. An exceptional encounter with God demands stepping into an exceptional destiny.

PRAYER: Lord, I know the costs of hearing You are high, but I still want to encounter You. I am willing to face the responsibility of knowing Your will.

POINT - 1: The couple came to us, hoping we would hear from God on their behalf.

POINT - 2: I described what I was envisioning and said, “I think God wants you to know that in this season of your life.

POINT - 3: Their world did seem to be spinning, and they could not figure out which way to go.

POINT - 4: He would lead them well.

TAKEAWAY: He knows how to speak through His people to His people, and He can do so in ways that powerfully address the concerns of their hearts. The Spirit knows our needs, and He inspires us to build each other up.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, use the screen of my imagination to write Your will, impress Your thoughts, and draw Your pictures. Speak into the hearts of Your people through me.

VERSE: So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed. GENESIS 12:4

POINT - 1: If God had looked into his heart ahead of time and seen a spirit of defiance, rebellion, or apathy, He probably would not have spoken.

POINT - 2: He could have heard and shrugged it off.

POINT - 3: He heard clearly enough to follow, but not clearly enough to eliminate the need for faith.

POINT - 4: The key for us is to move forward when we think we’ve heard Him.

TAKEAWAY: With very rare exceptions, His voice will give us enough room to talk ourselves out of it. He wants us to willingly follow His lead, not slavishly comply with His dictates. He always leaves room for the heart.

PRAYER: Lord, I don’t want to be paralyzed with uncertainty. Help me to follow Your voice even when I have questions. Please direct me as I move forward, and keep me in the middle of Your will.

POINT - 1: We long for more details. All we’re told is that “the LORD had said to Abram.”

POINT - 2: Perhaps He withheld the specifics because of what we usually do with them.

POINT - 4: Those of us who want to hear God cannot afford to limit our attention to one mode of expression.

TAKEAWAY: He will reach out to us in a combination of expressions that complement each other and serve to strengthen our faith in Him. Then we can move forward confidently, knowing that the God who governs every detail of our lives is speaking through them and leading us to the places He will show us as we go.

PRAYER: Lord, I’m listening for You in whatever ways You want to speak. Please draw my attention to the messages You want me to notice. Let me hear Your singular direction from multiple angles so I can believe it’s Your will.
