Entrepreneurs often make the mistake of entering into a business with an "all-in” mindset. Instead, you should Reinvent your company and pivot towards success by using the right marketing strategies.
In this episode, Erik Huberman shares his insights from his experience as CEO of the successful marketing agency, Hawke Media. He discusses how marketing can help your business stay afloat even in times of crisis. Erik also talks about the future of marketing in the wake of the Metaverse, Web 3.0 and NFTS.
Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation:
[3:56] Becoming an Entrepreneur
Erik first dove into entrepreneurship at a young age so that he could buy a guitar. Growing up, he came to realize that there was a difference between hobbies and professions. Drawing that line means understanding that being good at something is not always synonymous with being passionate about it.
[12:54] Businesses and Web 3.0
Joining the Metaverse and investing in NFTs are all the rage right now. However, Erik cautions against the "shiny object syndrome” regarding these kinds of trends. There is a risk that these movements will only become buzzwords, with entrepreneurs of no real expertise on the subject weighing in. It's critical to understand how they make money in practice.
[20:38] The Hawke Method
Erik recently published the book, The Hawke Method: The Three Principles of Marketing That Made Over 3,000 Brands Soar. Using his broad experience in marketing, he has condensed it into three pillars: awareness, nurturing, and trust.
[26:50] Fearing Failure
Everyone experiences moments of hesitancy and fear, especially when starting a business. To overcome your fear of failure, keep in mind that entrepreneurship isn't about taking risks. Rather, it is about risk-management.
Guest Bio:
Already the CEO of the successful marketing agency, Hawke Media, Erik Huberman has also launched a podcast, HawkeTalk, where he talks to notable people about their origin stories. Erik is also a published author with the book, The Hawke Method: The Three Principles of Marketing That Made Over 3,000 Brands Soar.

Our brains are preoccupied, our attention spans are short, our energy is often negative, we're addicted to news and social media, and at times we're sleep starved. But thanks to the power of a deep breath, we can overcome all this and achieve success!
In this episode, Sandy Abrams discusses the transforming impact of breathing in both our business and personal lives. It can be nothing short of miraculous to take three deep breaths at critical times. You'll become more focused and engaged with Sandy's simple and effective breathing practices.
Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation:
[8:54] Reinventing Ideas Into Business
The thing about Reinvention is that it will only happen if you become aware of it. Sandy's entrepreneurial journey started when she turned a product idea into something meaningful.
Through her book, Idea Inc., Sandy helps people turn their ideas into business. She shares her experiences in business to empower others.
[14:32] Take a Deep Breath to Connect Your Mind and Body
The first step in taking a deep breath to ease your mind and body is setting your alarm. Take three 10-second deep breaths or 60–90-second deep breaths while in the shower, brushing your teeth, and making coffee in the morning.
[17:06] Your Breath Is Transforming How You Think and Feel About Yourself
Our breath has the power to impact our nervous systems. When Sandy started her business, she didn't know anything about logistics, textile making, or manufacturing. Through the power of deep breathing, she reframed her thoughts of feeling ignorant and became a confident woman in business.
[32:11] Employers Can Breathe New Life Into Teams and Amplify a Company’s Culture and Goals
Companies should be mindful to prioritize the well-being of their employees by striking a balance between work and personal life. They can do this through cooperative retreats and the like. This will have a positive impact on both the employees and the organization.

THE POWER OF REINVENTION Podcast on Apple, Google, Spotify, Anchor, and more...
In this episode, Lisa Sun, founder and CEO of GRAVITAS, shares her ideas on how to Reinvent your dreams. She talks about the journey of starting GRAVITAS, getting motivation and support to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, and Reinventing her business to suit people's needs.
Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation:
[1:53] Lisa and Gravitas’ Background
Lisa worked at McKinsey & Company for 11 years, advising luxury fashion and beauty brands on issues regarding strategy and operations. GRAVITAS was founded in response to the not-so-terrific first professional review she ever received, noting that she “lacked gravitas.”
Lisa realized the transformative power clothing has on women and developed a passion for building shapers into dresses, offering styling solutions that spark confidence in women.
[21:05] Implementing a Business Idea From an Unfulfilled Need
With her mother’s support, Lisa started GRAVITAS to solve the underlying issues of money and people. She didn't fundraise or write up a business plan to get started; Lisa instead used her life savings and a financial model she had saved on a Word document. From working with McKinsey & Company, she already had a head start on developing connections within the fashion industry.
[30:48] Dealing With the Impact of COVID-19
Despite establishing itself as a brand throughout 2019, GRAVITAS saw a tremendous decrease in sales at the beginning of 2020. Lisa hoped to launch services in China, but COVID-19 had other plans. Because of the newly-implemented stay-at-home policies, many people sent back clothes they wouldn't be able to wear anymore.
But that was not the end. GRAVITAS received orders from hospitals to make gowns and masks, although that was not their specialty. There was little profit coming in compared to when they made dresses, but GRAVITAS had to keep the lights on to keep their workers employed.
[36:22] GRAVITAS’ Reinvention
Lisa Reinvented her brand from working to suit the needs of women of different sizes to designing uniforms for the Hilton Hotels in New York and fire and police department uniforms. GRAVITAS has also launched content and sold books on realizing the unmet need to help women feel their best.
[40:21] The Main Idea Behind GRAVITAS the Book
Lisa’s main idea was to instill self-confidence in her readers, to help them discover their superpowers. The book begins to actively make the unconscious conscious that we're the best out in the world.
Guest Bio:
Lisa Sun is the Founder & CEO of GRAVITAS, a company whose origin story dates back to Lisa’s first professional review: that she “lacked gravitas” and “should go buy a new dress, big jewelry, and great shoes.” Realizing the transformative power of clothing, Lisa secured the patent on building shapewear into dresses and launched Gravitas, a Confidence Company offering innovative apparel and styling solutions to makeover women from the inside-out.
Lisa spent 11 years at McKinsey & Company as an advisor to leading luxury, fashion, and beauty brands on their strategies and operations. She graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University with distinction in Biology and Political Science.

As children, we all had dreams and got lost in the ideas of our future selves. We imagined following certain careers, pursuing our passions, or inventing products that would change the world. As we grew up, reality harshly got in the way — sweeping these aspirations completely under the rug. But there is always a way. Revisiting your childhood dreams can open doors to finding who you are meant to be.
In this episode, CEO of BLD Medical Consulting Ron Richard shares the blueprint to getting your ideas out of your coffee cup and on the market. He talks about the key takeaways from his book Someday is TODAY! and his passion for medicine, inventing, and music.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Episode Highlights:
[05:11] Ron’s Background
Ron has been working in the medical industry for more than 35 years, with experience in respiratory, pulmonary, and sleep medicine. He also enjoys writing music and performing live concerts.
Growing up, Ron dreamed of becoming a musician and going on band tours. He didn't quite make it, but he continued to try different things and opportunities. Going through constant change and adjustment got him over his fear of failure.
Ron says that getting into respiratory medicine was purely accidental after being referred by a friend. His career in respiratory care then sparked his interest in inventing products.
[16:08] Experiencing a Heart Attack
Ron experienced a type of heart attack called the widowmaker while playing golf with his son. He went into full cardiac arrest and had to be cardioverted three times.
The experience was an awakening for him. It pushed him to reexamine how he wants to spend his time between now and when he leaves earth.
[19:16] Getting Your Ideas Out of Your Coffee Cup and on the Market
Ron's book Someday is TODAY! is a blueprint for clinicians interested in creating medical products and putting them out on the market.
The reason many projects fail in the medical industry is underfunding, but finding funding can start with family and friends. And then, you can work your way up to venture capital, private equity, and Reg D until you reach an IPO.
[31:15] How His Work Impacts His Life and Mindset
Working and traveling all over the world has taken its toll on Ron. He has experienced several setbacks and failures in the majority of products he has launched.
From his work and interests, the three people he wants to sit at his table at a party are Stephen Hawking, Walter Cronkite, and Mick Fleetwood.

THE POWER OF REINVENTION Podcast on Apple, Google, Spotify, Anchor, and more...
When was the last time you put yourself first? We spend a good part of our lives trying to please other people, and what this often means is sacrificing our wants and needs. At the end of the day, real happiness lies within yourself. Only when you start to celebrate yourself unapologetically will you begin to experience the real, empowered YOU.
In this episode, our host Kathi Sharpe-Ross delves into reinventing your life by putting yourself first. She talks about the section Project You in her book RE:INVENT YOUR LIFE! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? and how to design your Reinvention project.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Episode Highlights:
[00:52] Project YOU
We spend a lot of our time tending to our relationships at the expense of our wants and needs. We often end up depriving ourselves of the care and attention we give others, but if you don’t take care of yourself, no one will.
You are entitled to your desires. Self-entitlement is fundamental. It’s not about running away and never looking back; it’s about putting yourself first in whatever you do and remembering that it is your life.
Only you can fulfill yourself. Part of your big journey is recognizing the worth of your dreams and yourself. To do this, you’ll have to practice self-love and make time for Project YOU. One subtle mind shift can put all the right pieces in place to create the life that you want.
The gift of time has been granted to us in different ways in the past couple of years. This time calls for us to contemplate who we are, what we're doing, and what we want out of life. It's a critical period to pause and start listening to ourselves.
What has this gift of time been like for you on personal, spiritual, relationship, career, hobby, and community levels? Are you giving your passions and dreams a voice to be a bigger part of your life?
Discovering yourself can be incredibly exciting and daunting at the same time. Project YOU is important because it informs everything you’re doing in your life.
Listen to yourself, understand your entitlement, and memorialize your values. Reflect on what's important for you and find your why. Always coming back to your why will motivate you to stay on track.
What part of your life do you want your Project YOU to be for? It can be short or long-term.
What are the things you need to learn, read, buy, create, or engage in to attain this? Who do you know that can help inspire and motivate you? How many hours a week can you afford to spend on this Reinvention? What do you need to do differently in your current life to dedicate this time?
Make sure you’re clear about your goals and the success you want to achieve in this project. How can you balance the financial aspect of things? Will it make you happy? If the answer is yes, then it’s worth every ounce of your effort.

Learning never stops. We’re always changing and learning, but it can be difficult to find the right spaces to actually do it. Children are at the mercy of the educational system, which sometimes ends up putting them into boxes where they don’t fit — or want to fit. Meanwhile, adults get told that they cannot make mistakes, so they let themselves be chained up by their fear.
In this episode, Steven Wolfe Pereira, the CEO and co-founder of Encantos, shares how you can unshackle yourself from your fears and take control of your life by finding your purpose and allowing yourself to be imperfect.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Guest Bio:
Steven Wolfe Pereira is the CEO and co-founder of Encantos, the Web 3 platform empowering creators to help children learn to love learning. The pandemic has definitely forced us to rethink the future of work as most companies are now faced with a conundrum of whether they should go back to the workplace, or maybe follow a hybrid model. A number of studies show that remote work works. But is it the best thing long-term?
In this episode, James Orsini, President of The Sasha Group, Shelley Zalis, CEO of The Female Quotient, and Chris Detert, the Chief Communications Officer at Influential share their thoughts on the future of work.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Episode Highlights:
[04:36] What the Numbers Show
Here are some facts: 55% of businesses globally are offering some capacity for remote work. 18% of the workforce telecommutes on a full-time basis and 77% of telecommuters report being more productive.
A Stanford study of 16,000 workers over nine months found that working from home increases productivity by 13%. The same study also reported that work satisfaction and attrition rates were cut by 50%.
There are a lot of positive reasons to support remote work. However, especially as a small business owner, one of the most significant benefits of being in the office is the sense of community, connection, and engagement. Researchers at the University of Michigan found that when people spent more time interacting with others – talking, socializing, and connecting – they displayed improved mental function.
[07:54] The Element of Flexibility
The “return to office” is a complicated conversation, as Shelley puts it. Rather, the conversation should be around how we should be creating flexibility for everyone. It means setting up a life stage accommodation, where we create the “me” versus “we.” When it's "we" time, it’s more of team-building and social interaction. While during the "me" time, you don't need to be in an office just to sit there and show everyone that you're there.
Work from home gives freedom and flexibility. But the real trick is how to create flexibility for all so that no one is left out.
[23:34] The Democratization of The Workspace and The Hierarchy
When you look at a Zoom meeting, everybody is in the same-sized box. And so, nobody realizes who’s more important or whether they’re higher level than you, because everybody is the same. Ideas are coming from every angle and all ideas are similar in value. Hence, the hierarchical structure has been removed.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur or working for Corporate America, it’s so easy to get so immersed and caught up in the things (you think) you need to do. If you don’t take the time to step back and intentionally look at your life, it’s easy to lose your sense of purpose. Today’s guest, Doug Scott, came to a point in his career and life where he had to take a step back, explore things with curiosity, and choose to live a purpose-filled life.
A global leader in entertainment brand marketing, Doug is the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Subnation, the leading media platform for the culture of gaming and decentralized lifestyles. Doug is also a general partner in Surround Ventures, Co-Founder of the Museum of Advertising and a founding partner of Culture Group, an entertainment marketing agency based in Singapore, which manages integrated eSports programs.
Recognized by Adweek as one of the Top 50 Most Influential executives in media and entertainment, Doug has earned over 60 awards for creativity and effectiveness from competitions around the globe.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Episode Highlights:
[10:41] The Downside of Being in an Industry for Too Long
Balancing work life and personal life can be challenging when you have been working in the same industry for several years. And sometimes, it blurs the line between work and play, especially when you're passionate about what you do. However, it has its repercussions such as burnout, stagnation, or worse, you never get to do the things you really want in life. It’s never too late though. Taking a step back gives you a newer perspective and it opens you up to more than just being in the trenches.
[34:20] The Power of Having a Growth Mindset
Reinventing yourself requires a great degree of emotional maturity. Being able to go from a mindset of – knowing everything to learning everything. Seek to become a multi-hyphenate. Just because you've been working in a specific industry for a while doesn't mean you can't explore and expand your skill sets. Look to different areas in your industry where you can wear multiple hats and make an impact.
[41:58] The Impact of Web 3.0
The world we live in right now has become smaller than ever. We're all so connected to each other through our devices. We're connected to the physical world, and now, we have the ability to change the physical world based on the digital simulation that coincides with it. At the root of Web 3.0 is this decentralization, which is about empowerment. It's changing and enabling us to think differently.

For many people, fear is what holds them back from doing what they love to do, but when you have that clarity on who you are, that fear becomes less than how you want to show up in this world. In this episode, serial entrepreneur/Reinventor/Change Agent Karen Moore shares how she embraced her fears and approached her Reinvention moments with authenticity, clarity, curiosity and creativity.
With over 25 years of promoting some of the biggest names in entertainment from the Rockettes at the Radio City Music Hall to the most lavish touring Broadway shows, Karen has a rich background in marketing, sales, advertising and securing multimillion-dollar sponsorships. She has utilized her talents to affect social change at Habitat for Humanity, and she has now applied her marketing, negotiation and interpersonal skills to her lifelong passion for real estate.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Episode Highlights:
[11:15] Creativity and Clarity on What You Love to Do in Life
Do not let your past or present define you. Do not be defined by your job either. Just because you wrote something on your resume does not mean you must stay on the same path. Be curious and be creative about how you can do things and achieve your goals in a way that’s different from what you’ve always done.
[16:19] The Authenticity of Who You Are
This era of Google and information at your fingertips has provided an opportunity for us to really show up authentically – and how you show up is unique to you. It doesn't matter how many people are doing the thing that’s tickling your fancy. Do it because no one is going to do it the way you do it and no one is going to give it the flavor that you give it.
[21:57] Embracing Moments of Fear
Fear is a big thing that inhibits so many people from taking a step. Whether you're leaving a job or going through a big change in life, there's always going to be some degree of fear. And so, approach things from the perspective of putting one foot in front of the other and doing the next right thing – then things wouldn’t be that scary.
[40:34] Do What You Love to Do
Do what makes you happy and it will open yourself up to your life's journey and what you're supposed to be doing on this earth. And if you don't know where that direction is, or that end goal, just do something that sounds interesting to you. Look to successful people and figure out how you can do the same things they’re doing without shunning your authentic self. You don't have to know all the answers. Just do what you love to do and you'll see where that leads you.
