After a month long forced hiatus, The Primrose Chronicles is back with an installment celebrating a vanished occupation, the neighborhood "Paper Boy".  Host and narrator, Marty Young, fondly remembers the aspects of this now removed segment of daily life in the mid-2oth century, the newspaper carrier, a first job for many and a very necessary provider of information outside their immediate surroundings.
Bringing the world into homes by newsprint, many customers had no idea the scope to activity and responsibility a "Newsie had.
Even if only in a small way, Marty pays tribute by recounting some of his own experiences for any who will listen in.

    Enjoy and blessings

Camp Allendale  as a summer church camp was representative of similar faith-based operations across the Midwest in the mid-twentieth century.
This episode of TPC pays tribute to its culture and impact on the young lives, including your host and narrator’s, as they attended annually during their Junior High  and HighSchool years.
Though the narrative is more details than tales,  it should still bring smiles through personal recollections.
    Enjoy & blessings!!!

  • The Older I Get, The Better I Was

The summers of the 50’s and 60’s, for preteen boys anyway, were filled with their first experience  with our Nation’s Pastime, baseball, largely through organization of Little League.
This week’s episode briefly shares  one member of the Primrose Clan’s 4 years of participation in this iconic sports program, and , though somewhat generic, the tales should resonate with many who recall trying to navigate the sometimes choppy waters of skill development.
Apologies for the audio quality. An upcoming move across country by the host & narrator necessitated a last minute move from his full audio studio to a bedroom closet.
It should still make for fun experience.
    Blessings

This episode makes an even dozen in this nostalgic podcast back into the 50's-60's.  It's focus today is the mid-summer celebration of Independence Day, July 4 as one Northeast Side neighborhood did it.
All of the devices in the title appear in the story and most in the hands of your host and narrator,  Marty Young.
Many of such recordings would come with the WARNING: Do not try this at home!
This one does not, just enjoy.

The hope for this episode will be multiple salutes by many sons & daughters toward the men who led their homes, never perfectly but often selflessly.
If you were blessed by such, thank God. If not, resolve in the wake of this listening to be such a dad & husband going forward.

Enjoy this single installment that might explain a little of his psyche evidenced in later years.

May is Race Month across Indiana and this episode takes the listener onto Primrose Ave for the annual Indianapolis 500 to see the "Greatest Spectacle" in racing was played out in his childhood.
You'll go nowhere near the Speedway across town, but rather, hopefully, enjoy hearing how one neighborhood brought it up close and personal by its own reenactment of the events of Race Day circa the 1950's.
    Enjoy!!

  • TELLING TALES OUT OF SCHOOL

    Send us Fan Mail

Telling Tales Out of School” walks the TPC listener thru the halls, peeking in the classrooms of IPS Elementary School #91 to meet the teachers (Grades 2-6) of your host & narrator.

Even if you attended #91 in a different era or not at all, you’ll probably catch a glimpse of instructors you had in the caricatures portrayed.

Short on the subject matter learned and long on the experiences encountered this longer than usual installment should connect with anyone who had a public school education and should offer an enjoyable half hour to anyone longing for the simpler life.

  • A Tribute To Mom

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, Marty Young, host and narrator, has selected three experiences from literally scores involving himself and his mom, Dorothy Young, to share in a Mother’s Day salute to her. They have been culled from his childhood and adolescent years to highlight a couple of her most endearing qualities.
In doing so, he not only reiterates the influence she was on his life, but also reveals a bit of what made her so personal and available, thus loved deeply by her kids.
In this thoughtful and sweet, yet humorous installment of TPC, the creator of this podcast hopes to prompt the listeners to share their own acclaim of their respective moms sometime in this Mother’s Day weekend.
It’s the least we all can do.
    Blessings
