Let us know what you think? Send me a note!
This episode is a follow-up to a story I shared recently about a broken agreement with someone I’ve known and trusted for years.
But what stood out most in the aftermath wasn’t just what they did—it was what I could have done differently.
In reflection, I realized that part of the problem was how the agreement was made in the first place.
It reminded me of something I’ve taught for years: expectations are not the same as agreements, and when we confuse the two, we set ourselves and others up for failure.
In this episode, I dive into that lesson and share how I’ve started applying SMART agreements.
Listen now to learn how you can avoid the disappointment and frustration of agreements not kept!
🎧 Included is the link to one of my favorite recordings: Expectations vs. Agreements. It’s a simple but powerful message I keep coming back to time and again that has helped me have better relationships with EVERYONE in my life.

Trust Your Team is the theme of this week's episode. Tune in as I share a personal breakthrough about how learning to truly trust my team has freed up valuable time in my schedule and positively impacted our business.
If you've been looking for ways to step back from constant decision-making and empower your team to take more ownership, this episode is for you.
This year, my goal has been for my team to take more ownership and for me to step out of the relentless decision-making cycle. This week, I really saw this in action.
I had a breakthrough during a hiring decision process. Typically, I would have jumped in to direct the outcome, but this time, I consciously held back. It was incredible to see my team rise to the occasion, making thoughtful decisions on their own. This not only boosted their confidence but also solidified my trust in their capabilities.
This experience was mirrored in a client meeting, where instead of offering direct solutions, I facilitated a discussion that allowed the client’s project managers to take the lead.
They proposed effective changes to their processes, which reduced the client's need to attend numerous meetings. Witnessing this transformation was eye-opening and reinforced the value of empowering others.
The key takeaway? Trusting your team and establishing a strong feedback system can dramatically enhance operational efficiency and job satisfaction.
This approach not only streamlines management but also fosters a sense of ownership and pride among team members.

Ever had a dining experience that lingered in your mind, not for the food, but for the service?
Last week, my mastermind group and I found ourselves in such a situation. We were at a simple, unassuming restaurant during our annual retreat, not expecting much beyond a decent meal.
Yet, the service we received from one extraordinary young man transformed what was meant to be a routine dinner into a profound learning experience.
In this episode, I delve into how this encounter provided unexpected insights into customer service excellence and its parallels in the construction industry:
If you're looking to enhance how your team interacts with clients and manages challenges, this episode is a must-listen.

Have you ever noticed how the way someone talks about a person can shape your whole view of them?
This thought came to me again recently during a tough week with my friend Joe. Initially, his quirks really bothered me, and I found myself focusing on the negative aspects, and wanting to tell others about it.
But everything changed after a conversation revealed the struggles Joe was facing, shifting my view from annoyance to empathy.
It was a great reminder of how a simple shift from judging to being curious can transform our connections - a lesson my friend Tex taught me many years ago.
Listen as I share the full story of my “aha” moment and as I reflect on the amazing way Tex framed his introduction of others - what a great re-learning this was for me!

If you're diving into hiring or stepping into something unfamiliar, here's a little story from my life that might strike a chord.
Our eldest daughter, Kari, recently became a mom. It's been eye-opening seeing her navigate this new role without a clear guide, much like how new team members might feel in a new job. It reminded me of how crucial a solid onboarding process is for helping newcomers integrate smoothly.
This insight led me to refine our onboarding strategy for Jenni, our latest team addition, ensuring she can thrive in our unique culture right from the start.
Whether it's personal or professional, starting something new requires patience and proper support.

Tired of constantly checking in on your team to make sure things get done?
That’s exactly what I helped Dortha with today. She had a job description for a new hire, but it was just a task list—not a clear agreement on results.
When roles aren’t clearly defined by results, you end up micromanaging.
We fixed that by creating a position agreement that outlines key deliverables, how success is measured, with clear deadlines. The result? Less chasing, more ownership.
If you want your team to step up, this episode is for you.
And if you need ready-to-use position agreements (specific to the construction industry), check out Build Your Dream Team — I’ve done the hard work for you.
