  • When the Fuck Did Driving Turn Into Real-Life Mario Kart?

S2E15: The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings

    Happy Friday, Everyone!

I was driving home today from the gym when I had an unfavorable experience happen on the road. Nothing I couldn’t handle, but damn, it sure shows me where people’s manners are these days.

I’m not a fan of rudeness. We see too much of this because of politics, lately.

But it did give me an idea for a podcast topic. And here we go with that. I hope you enjoy it on this first day of the weekend. Much love to you all, thank you for lending me your ears! &:^)

  • Tales of a Middle-Aged Gym-Rat Wino

S2E14: The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings

    Hello to you all!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I know that I am. Part of the reason was being able to go back to the gym and work out today. My Achilles tendon was finally feeling better after being strained last week.

It hurt after the second workout and like a dumbass, I pushed through and did a third one. That turned out to be a mistake. I rested it for almost a week and now I’m back at it and feeling good. It made me think of how I’m more balanced in life and the gym at age 50 than I was 30 years ago.

I also laughed at myself in the middle of my workout for thinking ahead to having a glass of wine and dinner plans later. That gave me the idea for this episode. I hope it makes you laugh and you enjoy it!

  • I'm One Step Closer to International Travel Blogging

S2E13: The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings

    Hey Everybody!

Man, it’s been a hell of a day. Honestly, when isn’t it, right? It seems that there’s always something happening that throws a curveball into my very structured writing day. It almost happened again like that.

Thank fuck it didn’t. I was able to accomplish a big goal, despite it looking unlikely earlier.

In today’s podcast episode, I go into the details of the challenges I’ve had trying to get my passport. If I had known things were going to be this up and down during the process, I’d never have let my old one expire. But all’s well that ended well.

Thank you for listening to this one. I appreciate you lending me your ears, always. Even though Libby the Mooch and I had a fairly big selfie-fail at City Hall, the objective was completed. GO US!

  • This is a Test of the Mouthy Broadcast System

    What’s up, Yous Guys?

I have been thinking about doing live video chats for a bit now, ever since I discovered it was an option. Apologies for not giving any sort of real notice, I wasn’t sure how this shit even works. I believe I gave a one-minute heads-up here and it seems the video started recording before I thought it was.

Of course, there were going to be technical difficulties on the first attempt.

That’s part of the process, I suppose. Especially when you’re a fifty-year-old man who is decent with technology, but by no means an expert. Add it to the list of things I wrote about this afternoon in my new article, “Fifty as Fuck.” That was a silly humor piece. This live broadcast would have fit right into it.

Thank you Anna Wick, Larry Allen Brown, and many others for tuning into my live video! It was awesome to see 125 of you on there with me on such short notice. Join me for my next live video in the app. I’ll try to give more notice next time, I promise. Until we meet again! &:^)

If you enjoyed this first attempt and found it funny, please consider becoming a paid subscriber. Your support makes it possible for me to try wacky shit like this more. Thank you!

  • I Don't Consider Myself a "Manly Man"

S2E12: The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings

Hey Everybody! Welcome to the latest episode of The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings. It’s been an interesting day, to say the least. Something stressful happened that threw a monkey wrench into my typical routine day.

But I got the chance to play the hero, so at least there’s that.

In today’s episode, I talk about what happened and how it made me think about gender roles. Traditional ones, mainly. Though times are changing, there are still those who think a man’s job in a household is this that, and whatever, while a woman’s job within a family is an entirely different set of things.

Fuck all of that. I don’t buy it at all. Mai and I play to our strengths, without gender being factored in. You’ll see. I hope you enjoy this one, thank you for lending me your ears once again. Y’all are the best! &:^)

  • The Varying Degrees of Abusive Relationships

S2E11: The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings

Good afternoon, Everyone. I hope your Sunday is going well. In today’s podcast, I talk about the different types of relationships that some find themselves in. Specifically, negative ones.

That’s quite a spectrum. They can range from boring, and unsatisfying to horrible and abusive.

It’s even more difficult when other aspects come into play. When you share a child, for example. Or if one person is dependent on the other for financial reasons. Regardless, we only have a finite amount of time on this planet. We should be making it count.

Thank you for lending me your ears. I appreciate you all tuning in every day. We’re closing in on 90,000 downloads of this podcast now in just three months. I owe it all to my wonderful free and paid subscribers. You guys are the best. &:^)

  • I Speak Movie Quotes as a Second Language

S2E10: The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings

    Good Afternoon, my friends!

I’m back with another episode of The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings. I called an audible on today’s episode right before I started recording. I had a plan for a topic to discuss right before I logged onto my backup laptop.

    That’s when shit changed, suddenly.

I saw the words, “Egg McMuffin” on an article I had up from a day or two ago. My brain defaulted to the movie Superbad and I heard an old fella in the movie say, “MCMUFFIN!” and I had to laugh at that.

Movie quotes as a second language is a fun thing. Especially when you’re as silly as me and my Bride. We run them back and forth constantly. I have a pretty cool story about how I knew she was “The One” that I’ll share with you in today’s episode.

Thank you for lending me your ears, I appreciate the hell out of all of you. That’s why I do these daily, because y’all are so cool and seem to enjoy them. Here we go! &:^)

  • Racism: Caused by Fear or Ignorance?

S2E1: You Have the Right to Remain Mouthy

Hey Everybody! Kenyon Ray York-Byers and I are happy to bring you our brand-new episode of “You Have the Right to Remain Mouthy.” We haven’t done a new episode together since before the holidays. It was time to get back on track.

And what better topic to start us off in 2025 than racism?

We discuss a few others, too. But with Donald Trump taking power again in just 10 days, racism is a pretty hot topic in America. It’s not likely to go away any time soon. It’s been around since our country was founded.

Give this one a listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments section. We appreciate you lending us your ears. Please subscribe to Kenyon’s Substack, if you haven’t. He has a huge guest coming up on his solo podcast, Kenyon’s Meridian.

You won’t want to miss it. &:^)

  • You Truly Never Know How Fast Time Passes

S2E9: The Renegade Writer’s Mouthy Musings

    Hello, My Friends!

I saw an old photo of my daughter and I today in passing. She’s 19 and this photo was over 18 years old. It’s the one on the right side of this picture of us below.

Even the left side is a few years old. She was working with me that day on a carpet cleaning job. We took a selfie at the end when we were finished with the job and exhausted. Time flies when you’re having fun and raising kids.

On today’s episode, I’m taking a trip down Memory Lane. And not just back to shortly before I became a father, but when I was being raised by one.

I appreciate you giving this one a listen, thank you for lending me your ears, as always!
