The River Rambler

This week I got the chance to talk with Greg Pearson. We went over how he got started fishing with his grandfather, driving to Alaska and catching his first steelhead, placid animal attacks, repping fishing gear, Illustration, birding, painting, and of course, ladders.

I got the opportunity to speak with Tim Gelinus, of Farlex Reels, and great time. Such a great time in fact that we decided to have it twice and record it once. We discussed growing up fishing cutthroat, big families, raising kids, getting the steelhead bug, the excitement of teaching yourself, click and pawl reels and drag reels, the Farlex naming inspiration, devious king salmon, trout spey, and the always helpful verbal diagram.

Welcome to the first episode of 2022. I'm joined by Ian Tattam of the ODFW. We get right into it with his first salmon and steelhead, schooling, the relationship between steelhead and beavers, tagging fish, river closings, ocean survival rates, smallmouth bass, and so much more.

Time to end the year right, with one more River Rambler episode. For the final episode of the year I'm talking with Topher Brown. We go over how he started spin fishing at 5, being a "Child of Graphite," Quebec, steelhead vs Atlantic salmon, Scandinavian style fishing, canoes, bamboo, reels, Atlantic salmon populations, and we get a feline visitor.

This week I'm joined by my friend Kevin Hospodar. We had a fantastic chat about his young start to fishing, how to work in fish, how to get in trouble, tying flies, being a reel connoisseur, adventuring with the kids, a love for Sage Brush bags, conservation, kids' soccer, and the dark reality of time travel. So you know, just about everything.

On this week's episode I got to have an amazing chat with Tracy Allen. We talked about how he started fishing, guiding, how he jumped into spey, building boats, the four facets of fishing, the state of steelhead, the Clearwater and The Red Shed, more boats, a united voice in conservation, the confusing world of spey tackle, and we touch on boat too.

This week I got to have a great talk with Gian Lawrence. He discussed how he started fly fishing, his love for cooking, making a movie, inspecting ships, sea run cutthroat, fishing with kids, the struggles of casting with an audience, and the convenience of river-side restaurants.

Today I'm talk with Kirk Blaine of Native Fish Society all about the draft for the Rogue's South Coast Multi-Species Conservation and Management Plan. We discuss how it got started back in 2018, data and monitoring issues in previous drafts, concerns with the current draft, the upcoming meeting on 15th, and how easy it will be to testify online.
